Hi, I looking for how to install GCC 6.2 into Debian 8... without installing ALL "testing" repo... in Ubuntu just need insert ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test repo but into debian is not working... I have try compile GCC manually but is too hard x.x
bazhang 2017-01-26 11:52:29
borrougagnou, an ubuntu PPA with debian?
borrougagnou 2017-01-26 11:54:00
bazhang> yes ... strange is not working for find gcc-snapshot package...
hanasaki 2017-01-26 11:54:15
why would ondemand freq governor default to this? and how can it be setup to default to min around .800 and max around 3.5 without having to set it directly? I thought that was the whole point of ondemand.... "current policy: frequency should be within 3.50 GHz and 3.50 GHz."
borrougagnou 2017-01-26 11:54:22
but with ubuntu is not problem
bazhang 2017-01-26 11:55:19
borrougagnou, ubuntu PPA are not meant for debian
borrougagnou 2017-01-26 11:56:31
bazhang> okay but how to install gcc 6.2 into debian without installing ALL "testing" repo...
bazhang 2017-01-26 11:57:01
borrougagnou, first, why the need for that specific version
TomTomTo1 2017-01-26 11:57:48
installing the binary from testing is not a good idea and building from testing source will also not be easy. i would recommend you create a build environment with debootstrap and chroot. then you can mess around without damaging your system.
borrougagnou 2017-01-26 11:58:10
bazhang> because I work with other people and I need compile with this version
bazhang 2017-01-26 11:58:30
borrougagnou, they are fully compatible
borrougagnou 2017-01-26 11:58:47
TomTomTo1> how x.x why is so complicate for install specific packet with debian x.x
borrougagnou 2017-01-26 12:00:31
bazhang> sorry but no... I have another people last time he have problem with compile with this version...
borrougagnou 2017-01-26 12:00:48
*for compile with
borrougagnou 2017-01-26 12:01:07
I need gcc/g++ 6
phogg 2017-01-26 12:02:33
borrougagnou: you can always compile it yourself; it's really not hard
borrougagnou 2017-01-26 12:03:20
phogg> I have try but make explain many many many error...
borrougagnou 2017-01-26 12:04:13
each time I need specific software, etc.. too complicated...
phogg 2017-01-26 12:04:14
borrougagnou: I just went and grabbed the source from gnu and am compiling now... I was missing only 3 packages. I recommend you apt-get build-dep the version of gcc available on your debian now, then try again
trotski2000 2017-01-26 12:05:09
zuiss1: I have fde on ssd. I don't notice difference between fde and no fde.
borrougagnou 2017-01-26 12:05:27
phogg> okay I try tomorrow... but I'm not sure...
zuiss1 2017-01-26 12:08:23
trotski2000: thanks. everything i read says because FDE uses the entire disk, it hurts performance since ssd performance drops when the disk is full. so it's like in an always-full state
zuiss1 2017-01-26 12:08:34
but good to know at least some people don't notice here
trotski2000 2017-01-26 12:09:22
zuiss1: the impact is negligible in my experience.
zuiss1 2017-01-26 12:09:50
check out the guy's answer to the question in this thread https://askubuntu.com/questions/53872/how-do-i-set-up-full-disk-encryption-on-an-ssd
Resilience 2017-01-26 12:18:53
hello to everyone, I would like to install virtual vox and here "https://wiki.debian.org/VirtualBox" says that for testing (debian 9) I have to add to sources.list a not official repository, is it reasonable? I have _never_ use non-official sources (I know that this channel is not for testing, but this channel uses to have a little more people active in it, and it is not such a big off-topic)
zykotick9 2017-01-26 12:19:33
wondiws: fde = full disk encryption
zuiss1 2017-01-26 12:19:59
Resilience: i think virtualbox won't be in debian 9 anymore
Resilience 2017-01-26 12:20:12
zuiss1, why not?
zuiss1 2017-01-26 12:20:58
because of issues with oracle
mww113 2017-01-26 12:21:45
Resilience: there shouldn't be any issue adding that source
mww113 2017-01-26 12:21:52
it's not going to harm your os if that's what you mean
Resilience 2017-01-26 12:22:26
mww113, not exactly harm, but I was thinking os kind of odd to have an official package for every version for debian but the last one
mww113 2017-01-26 12:22:52
zuiss1's explanation makes since to me
mww113 2017-01-26 12:23:07
if it's supported in stable and oldstable they're probably going to continue maintaining the packags
mww113 2017-01-26 12:23:10
*packages
mww113 2017-01-26 12:23:16
so as not to break people's setup
mww113 2017-01-26 12:23:26
but going forward it won't be part of Debian 9
Resilience 2017-01-26 12:24:17
aha I understand, what kind of trouble refers to zuiss1 mww113 ?
RickHull 2017-01-26 12:24:48
virtualbox came from Sun, who was very FOSS friendly
RickHull 2017-01-26 12:24:55
oracle bought sun and has not been friendly
mww113 2017-01-26 12:26:07
Oracle is kind of shitty
mww113 2017-01-26 12:26:31
though my dad works for them so I guess I shouldn't complain about it too much or i'll be black-bagged
SamSagaZ 2017-01-26 12:27:23

dondelelcaro 2017-01-26 12:32:38
nauticalnexus: if the channel has dpkg in it, call for !ops. Which channel?
nauticalnexus 2017-01-26 12:32:45
