uhm I have gnome, and some weird thing is happening. When I switch to a different language keyboard. ctrl + copy and paste and pretty much all shortcuts stop working. can you hint me at what could be at fault?
Digital 2017-01-31 01:54:11
between which languages are you switching?
dionysus69 2017-01-31 01:56:23
georgian and english
dionysus69 2017-01-31 01:56:25
Digital:
dionysus69 2017-01-31 01:56:31
locale: ka
dionysus69 2017-01-31 01:56:44
it used to work! I can confirm!
Digital 2017-01-31 01:58:08
dionysus69, the shortcut is probably bound to the letter of the key, not the key itself
dionysus69 2017-01-31 01:58:32
ye weird
dionysus69 2017-01-31 01:58:41
its not that critical, just a little annoying
Digital 2017-01-31 01:59:12
what program did you use for the keybindings?
KjetilK 2017-01-31 02:10:50
Some time ago, I repurposed an old box as file server, and then, I found it had floppy connectors, and I had a floppy drive lying around, so I put it in there, "just in case"...
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:11:10
Hello, is anyone here using firefox? I wanted to switch from chromium to firefox, but firefox is so much more slower than chromium, it actually freezes up my desktop for a second at times. Is this a known issue? Or is this a special case?
KjetilK 2017-01-31 02:11:48
lo and behold, yesterday, I found some floppies with pictures that my father left, but all I see in dmesg is
Digital 2017-01-31 02:11:50
I'm using firefox too but i don't have problems
KjetilK 2017-01-31 02:11:52
[ 3.724020] floppy0: no floppy controllers found
KjetilK 2017-01-31 02:12:21
does this mean that my floppy drive is defective, or may there be other causes?
Digital 2017-01-31 02:12:31
(it works fine until i have a lot of tabs loaded at the same time for some hours)
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:15:45
Digital: I am having it mostly with whatsapp web, but it runs poor on general
Digital 2017-01-31 02:16:11
DrBunsen, what hardware do you have?
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:17:00
Digital: fast enough. Some I5 from last year and a capable gpu. 8 gb ram.
Digital 2017-01-31 02:17:51
dunno, firefox works fine for me
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:18:07
firefox deals with javascript poorly
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:18:22
and therefore feels sluggish in general, as compared to chrome/opera/etc
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:18:28
FinalX: that would explain the lagg in the whatsapp web tab
Digital 2017-01-31 02:18:42
i disabled javascript
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:20:03
So, I should replace FF with chromium? Any cons / pros?
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:22:10
All browsers have their own advantages and disadvantages. Firefox is very standalone, Chrome/Chromium often use OS things, Opera uses the same base as Chrome/Chromium, but offers other cool features.
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:22:47
I use 4 different browsers for 4 different reasons :)
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:23:52
FinalX: I wouldn't use Chrome, since it is closed source(and google).
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:24:04
But I like the safe page feature on firefox
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:25:35
To each their own; the webkit Chrome uses is open source, and used by Chromium and Opera as well.
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:25:52
And with Chrome there's also the Canary version, the beta channel, let's say
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:26:14
I like using Opera, comes with other built-in features, like tab groups, but also built-in VPN client and such.
Digital 2017-01-31 02:26:40
I wouln't trust the vpn
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:26:54
I don't either, but it's useful at times to test stuff.
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:27:11
I like the smoothness of chromium, but I like the way extensions/addons work on firefox
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:27:19
"Test from random location that's not my own", for instance ACL's and such.
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:28:20
DrBunsen: I have Chrome open for WhatsApp web. That's it. Normal stuff I do in Opera, feature testing in Chrome Canary, and work stuff, especially things that require SSL cert auth or better privacy, in Firefox.
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:28:59
(in reality, Firefox is not that much more aimed at privacy than the others, but still)
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:29:15
FinalX: is there a reason you are not using chromium for whatsapp web?
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:30:06
No particular reason :)
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:30:20
ahh okies
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:30:36
It's just that I work for an internet hosting & access company, and our users don't use Chromium, and Chrome a lot.
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:30:54
So keeping up with what they will see/get feature-wise, is a good thing, too.
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:31:07
ahhh of course.
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:31:50
also, I hate to admit it, but even Microsoft stepped up with Edge.
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:32:13
it's really fast as well, on par with Chrome/Chromium/Opera now for JavaScript stuff, as well.
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:32:31
Firefox should really join the rest in terms of speed :)
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:34:04
it shouldn't be that hard, just copy paste the javascript part and make it work with FF. (I know I am simplifying it)
FinalX 2017-01-31 02:36:27
oh, and in Opera I have the default adblocker enabled in it. works well enough, also with exceptions. and doesn't block scripts coming from the same host, so pages usually work fine.
DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:37:39
yeah I heard that, but what ever happened to KISS(keep it simple stupid). I mean make your briwser great and let the community make the add block?
soupmagnet 2017-01-31 02:41:21
Does anyone know how to get the integer or boolean value of something defined with xset?
soupmagnet 2017-01-31 02:41:46
...the keyboard backlight for example
ImUs3r 2017-01-31 02:45:04
what is linux log command d????
