DrBunsen 2017-01-31 02:45:46
do you mean something like dmesg?
ImUs3r 2017-01-31 02:45:53
yes correct
ImUs3r 2017-01-31 02:45:55
dmesg
ImUs3r 2017-01-31 02:45:58
:)
colo-work 2017-01-31 03:01:28
since upgrading to Linux 4.8 from jessie-backports, I notice that on a lot of our Intel-based machines, systemd-udevd hangs like this: http://paste.debian.net/plain/911889
colo-work 2017-01-31 03:01:34
dae experience something like this?
CodeMachine 2017-01-31 03:09:45
Amigos. How come version 45 of firefox is the version in synaptic?
TomTomTo1 2017-01-31 03:11:33
because that's firefox extended support release. http://mozilla.debian.net/ has more options, if you are not happy with that.
it0 2017-01-31 03:18:02
Hi everyone, hope you're all doing fine!
al3xclarke 2017-01-31 03:18:10
hi all, how do i check the status of iptables on Debian-Jessie?
jelly 2017-01-31 03:18:30
colo-work: no idea, but there's 4.9 in backports already
colo-work 2017-01-31 03:18:50
hrm!
colo-work 2017-01-31 03:18:54
thanks for letting me know
toogley 2017-01-31 03:20:14
what is the "DI" in debian-stretch-DI-alpha8-amd64-netinst.iso ?
dgriffi 2017-01-31 03:20:34
does anyone here have a Thinkpad T420? I'm having problems getting xorg starting up in stretch
zykotick9 2017-01-31 03:22:52
dgriffi: you might want to try #debian-next on the OFTC network for stretch support
lss8 2017-01-31 03:23:05
"myuser is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported" where will this violation be reported?
zykotick9 2017-01-31 03:25:02
toogley: di (or d-i) is typically "debian installer" you can see "/msg dpkg di"
Wovado 2017-01-31 03:25:53
I'm a bit confused here. packages.debian.org states the package 'androidsdk-tools' is available for debian Jessie (https://packages.debian.org/source/jessie/androidsdk-tools). But when I try to install it, it doesn't seem to be there. Am I missing something, perhaps a written notice or a required repository?
toogley 2017-01-31 03:26:22
zykotick9: aah, thanks
zykotick9 2017-01-31 03:26:26
lss8: check /var/log/auth.log
TomTomTo1 2017-01-31 03:26:47
Wovado: that's a source package. you can see the list of binary packages it provides, which you can install.
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:27:22
If you guys aren't following https://bugs.debian.org/release-critical/ this page, you should be. They closed 100 bugs in like a day. Hard freeze is feb 2. STRETCH IS ALMOST HERE!!!!
Wovado 2017-01-31 03:27:48
Oh, my bad. Thank you TomTomTo1
dgriffi 2017-01-31 03:27:49
crackotage: any word on making sure that xorg doesn't barf on Thinkpads?
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:28:24
There is probably a word on it
zykotick9 2017-01-31 03:28:34
dgriffi: why not go to where the stretch users/developers are? <- which is #debian-next on OFTC
dgriffi 2017-01-31 03:28:48
zykotick9: I'm there and there are no responses
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:29:01
are you subscribed to the mailing list?
dgriffi 2017-01-31 03:30:02
crackotage: debian-users?
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:30:23
no, there's one for developers, and one for stretch
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:30:59
debian-devel-announce@lists.debian.org
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:31:49
They only give announcements when something is really notable, like release info.
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:32:14
Is there a bug for the problem you are talking about?
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:37:05
At the current rate I'd estimate stretch will come out in late february.
abrotman 2017-01-31 03:37:43
of this year?
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:37:47
yes
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:37:56
Have you seen the critical bug chart?
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:38:10
https://bugs.debian.org/release-critical/
abrotman 2017-01-31 03:38:11
But are other things in order, and ready to go?
abrotman 2017-01-31 03:38:37
There are still 400-ish bugs for Stretch
colo-work 2017-01-31 03:38:41
jelly, hrm, are you sure? I can't fin a changelog entry indicating 4.9 is in jessie bpo
abrotman 2017-01-31 03:38:43
that's not a small number, and you don't know the severity
dgriffi 2017-01-31 03:38:53
I thought I could jump over to stretch so I could get gcc >= 5
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:38:58
they are all release critical
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:39:05
it is not a matter of number of bugs
abrotman 2017-01-31 03:39:13
I didn't mean that severity
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:39:42
it is a matter of the fact that they have stopped migrating new packages and in feb 2 there will be a hard freeze.;
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:39:54
that means they can focus on bug fixing alone.
dgriffi 2017-01-31 03:40:19
how long after the hard freeze is final release expected?
TomTomTo1 2017-01-31 03:40:28
which usually takes about six months.
abrotman 2017-01-31 03:40:34
dgriffi: No one knows
abrotman 2017-01-31 03:40:52
you can speculate, but typically a few months at least
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:40:59
The trend is strongly downward. The green line is rapidly moving to zero.
Logg 2017-01-31 03:41:10
there's statistics on past freeze-to-release times here https://wiki.debian.org/DebianReleases
dgriffi 2017-01-31 03:41:16
is there any other way I can get gcc >= 5 on Jessie?
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:41:17
They fixed 100 bugs in a few days.
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:41:23
debports
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:41:24
?
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:41:41
I mean backports
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:42:01
I avoid picking and choosing between releases giving the annoying package managment.
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:42:07
DONT FILE BUGS!!!
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:42:11
gah
dgriffi 2017-01-31 03:42:16
crackotage: it's not there
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:43:14
https://bugs.debian.org/release-critical/graph.png
crackotage 2017-01-31 03:43:37
see the pattern? the testing release (green) rapidly approaches zero after peaking
TomTomTo1 2017-01-31 03:44:03
because packages get removed automatically.
petn-randall 2017-01-31 03:45:12
crackotage: Look at previous release graphs, it's the same there.
