tabakhase: what shell is each system using?
tabakhase 2017-01-30 09:47:15
all with !/bin/bash shebang, one normal debian vm via ssh thats "fine" -- the other debian:latest docker that is failing (gitlab-ci)
tabakhase 2017-01-30 09:48:21
in the docker my split-worm fails on "sh: 1: ecap_OS_PushFunc: not found \n split: with FILE=x00, exit 127 from command: ecap_OS_PushFunc "/tmp/tmp.xuQlnMrvTX""
somiaj 2017-01-30 09:50:12
hmm, okay, just making sure it wasn't dash or some other shell causing problems, since /bin/sh -> /bin/dash on debian systems

trying to get flashplayer working
graps 2017-01-30 10:12:08
Henry151: In Firefox ?
Henry151 2017-01-30 10:12:13
yes
graps 2017-01-30 10:12:47
Henry151: I was directed to pepperflash plugin, which doesn't have frequent updates like Adobe Flash plugins
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:13:11
Henry151: you can just manually download it from adobe and put it in .mozilla/firefox/plugins (or something like that, look up the specific directory)
graps 2017-01-30 10:13:26
Henry151: I'll check with my Debian Wheezy apt-get...
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:13:29
graps: adobe is now prividng an napi plugin again of th enewest version.

jak2000 2017-01-30 10:14:57
something
graps 2017-01-30 10:15:00
somiaj: Is it supported by Debian ?
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:15:41
graps: the script grabs the newest version from adobe, read the bug report, I think the issue is the script compares this version to something on debian's site and that is what is failing.
Henry151 2017-01-30 10:15:44
graps: it's testing
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:16:02
Henry151: did the bug report not have a work around?
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:16:10
I didn't read it in detail
Henry151 2017-01-30 10:16:32
somiaj: it mentioned pepperflash but I couldn't get anything going with that when I tried
graps 2017-01-30 10:16:47
Henry151: There you go, re: Adobe Flash (it's supported for Linux again, maybe Debian). I'll just use pepperflash, but if you're interested: https://wiki.debian.org/PepperFlashPlayer/Installing
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:17:55
the pepperflash script was in far worse shape last I checked, due to google no longer provides it the same
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:18:02
and pepperflash can also be gotten from adobe directly now
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:18:26
anyways, these are just contrib scripts that are downloading the non-free software from adobe and putting it on your system. There is no reason why you cna't do it manually if the script is broken.
graps 2017-01-30 10:18:31
somiaj: Oh, okay. I am using Ubuntu and am running apt-get install adobeflash (or similar) when it breaks
jelly 2017-01-30 10:19:38
gramps*
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:19:39
and due to firefox being nicer about plugins, it is way eaiser to get the firefox plugin working thean the chromium one, chromium doens't just have a plugin dir.
graps 2017-01-30 10:19:41
somiaj: Or...when Firefox version doesn't match the Flash plugin update
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:20:18
graps: I don't see that being an issue, firefox supports napi plugins, unsure why the firefox version would matter here for a thirdparty non-free plugin....
graps 2017-01-30 10:20:19
jelly: Heh heh
graps 2017-01-30 10:20:30
jelly: I'm not yet a gramps, thankfully
kingsley 2017-01-30 10:21:55
I'd like to read anecdotes from people who removed systemd of what the consequences were.
graps 2017-01-30 10:22:00
somiaj: Yeah....when I did have broken Flash player issues with Firefox, in the past, I d/l'd the Linux offering, it broke, then researched pepperflash, back in 2014. Since then, Adobe has resumed Linux support of Flash, so they both work again (Firefox and Adobe Flash)
kingsley 2017-01-30 10:22:17
Did removing systemd create more problems than it solved?
kingsley 2017-01-30 10:22:32
Was your life finally showered with meaning and happiness?
kingsley 2017-01-30 10:22:43
Was it easy?
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:22:45
graps: this wasn't firefox, firefox doens't support papi, but for a while adobe wouldn't provide a newer napi plugin, so one had to use freshplayer as a wrapper for the papi plugin (pepperflash)
kingsley 2017-01-30 10:22:45
Hard?
kingsley 2017-01-30 10:22:51
Worthwhile?
kingsley 2017-01-30 10:22:55
Not?
graps 2017-01-30 10:23:20
somiaj: Yes, I remember that time, freshplayer and all
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:23:25
kingsley: no need to hit enter so often, unsure how many people have removed systemd (i personally like it as an init system) but here are some instructions
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:23:28
!remove systemd
dpkg 2017-01-30 10:23:29
To use an init system other than systemd in jessie, install the systemd-shim package (for logind) and remove the systemd-sysv package: aptitude install systemd-shim sysvinit-core systemd-sysv-. To stick with sysvinit for wheezy->jessie upgrades, follow the pinning advice in the release notes: http://deb.li/30Kby - See also and
somiaj 2017-01-30 10:23:54
kingsley: note you don't really remove systemd (part of it is still there), but you can use sysv as your init system

jelly 2017-01-30 10:35:37
and given the io errors from dmesg, remounting rw before a fsck doesn't seem too bright an idea
cafuego 2017-01-30 10:35:49
jak2000: Of course, thep 1 is to find out WHY it's mounted read-only. Did it fail an fsck during bootup?
jelly 2017-01-30 10:35:50
graps: I did already -- contact the provider

jak2000: DreamHost uses SSDs in their East-2 site, but still offer traditional HDDs in East-1
yyr 2017-01-30 10:44:48
Hell all, I have a question, but I'm not sure this would be the right channel to pose my quesiton in. It relates to startup scripts loaded through systemd, and not being able to run two scripts at once through the same mechanism
graps 2017-01-30 10:45:11
yyr: What's your question ?
