how safe is it to put apt-get update && apt-get upgrade in cron on stable?
shewp 2017-01-27 05:13:58
ploop: check out the unattended-upgrades package
shewp 2017-01-27 05:14:04
it does what you want
shewp 2017-01-27 05:14:19
there's also an alternative called cron-apt
shewp 2017-01-27 05:15:10
so that's what you want, regarding how safe it is i can speak for my own experience on wheezy when it was stable that i never had any problems

thanks

when i insert a flash drive or sd card, my cinnamon desktop icons get messed up. not moved around, but drawn incorrectly, thus having pictures where there aren't really any on the desktop (clicking there does nothing)
Nematocyst 2017-01-27 05:29:56
i have two screenshots. one before, and one after insertion. not sure where to upload them

What tools can I use to have a dashboard with my server inventory and openscap vulnerability assesment list?

Nematocyst: ugh
Nematocyst 2017-01-27 05:38:28
teraflops, i'd like to isolate the issue to the proper place. video driver, desktop, debian.. whatever it is in order to file a bug report. been using debian now for close to a year, and it's the only real issue. a nusiance mostly, have to reboot to fix it

Is everyone else seeing everything hosted by Bytemark (PTS, tracker, alioth, ...) down?
teraflops 2017-01-27 05:39:05
Nematocyst: just guessing, do you run a composite manager?
Nematocyst 2017-01-27 05:39:22
teraflops, i think so.
teraflops 2017-01-27 05:39:34
xfce4 built in one?
teraflops 2017-01-27 05:39:51
Nematocyst: also which gpu?
teraflops 2017-01-27 05:40:37
such things could be related to your gpu
Nematocyst 2017-01-27 05:41:15
teraflops, an old one. pcie, gt-7300 nvidia. compisiting i believe in system settings|appearance|Effects. Enable desktop effects is checked
teraflops 2017-01-27 05:42:01
Nematocyst: hmm, no idea, checked xorg logs, syslog and dmesg?
Nematocyst 2017-01-27 05:43:46
i don't even know if i'm using the legacy driver, or whatever the open source one is called. don't know what to look for in the logs. it seems purely a display problem. no ill effects really
Nematocyst 2017-01-27 05:44:59
ok, i unchecked desktop effects, and inserted a flash drive. garbled icons
