hi why cant install curl? http://pastebin.com/QinPrkqf any advice?
missmbob 2017-01-28 15:47:02
yeah...that's not a curl problem :P
missmbob 2017-01-28 15:47:28
did you at one point try to remove udev?
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 15:48:53
Kafei: do you have a link to the realtek-nonfree firmware for debian?
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 15:49:06
er...the realtek firmware package?
missmbob 2017-01-28 15:49:11
it's firmware-realtek
missmbob 2017-01-28 15:49:47
nm. one sec
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 15:50:01
missmbob: nevermind, I found it
missmbob 2017-01-28 15:50:23
my vision is really blurry today. not making things easy
jak2000 2017-01-28 15:52:30
missmbob remove udev?
missmbob 2017-01-28 15:53:23
yeah. that's what's killing everything. how you did that i dont know
Kafei 2017-01-28 15:53:55
jak2000: I don't believe that was a suggestion for you to now remove udev, just in case that was misinterpreted
eliotime 2017-01-28 16:03:38
Thunderbird will arrive to Debian in the version 52 ESR?
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:03:59
missmbob: do you have a link to the realtek firmware package for jessie in .tar.gz format? or can i use the .deb format?
gnoss 2017-01-28 16:05:49
hey, what should -raAd generally do?
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:05:52
mad_hatter: Which version are you using
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:06:07
stable, testing, sid
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:07:07
what do you mean which version?
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:07:10
version of jessie?
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:07:19
nvm, jessie was the answer
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:07:23
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/firmware-realtek
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:07:26
^^ that's what i have
gnoss 2017-01-28 16:07:49
debian dog jesse
missmbob 2017-01-28 16:07:50
mad_hatter: http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/non-free/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-realtek_0.43_all.deb
gnoss 2017-01-28 16:08:06
jessie, nvm
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:09:04
alright...so basically all i need to do now is create 2 partitions on the usb drive -- one for the netinstall.iso and one for the firmware
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:09:17
mad_hatter: I highly doubt we have the same hardware but fwiw I had to install firmware-atheros as well as firmware-realtek before my wifi would work
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:09:58
But I'm not sure if the installer will accept a .deb as your missing firmware file
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:10:06
As you asked a minute ago
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:11:19
yeah im not sure eitehr
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:11:32
which is why i was curious if anyone knew of a .tar.gz version of that file
debn00b 2017-01-28 16:12:23
hello people, I just got Lenovo Ideapad laptop
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:12:42
It also looks like the Jessie backports version of nonfree firmwares is just as updated as the one in testing and unstable
missmbob 2017-01-28 16:12:48
the installer will accept deb but you can download .ts if you want
debn00b 2017-01-28 16:12:52
I am unable to setup wifi on it, have installed firmware etc
jak2000 2017-01-28 16:12:54
debn00b wich model?
jak2000 2017-01-28 16:12:57
the price?
debn00b 2017-01-28 16:13:01
but still can't see wifi
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:13:02
I might grab the backported one in case that helps
debn00b 2017-01-28 16:13:21
lenovo ideapad 300 15 inches
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:13:35
Those use Intel's wifi cards, don't they?
missmbob 2017-01-28 16:14:31
mad_hatter: http://http.debian.net/debian/pool/non-free/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-nonfree_20161130.orig.tar.xz http://http.debian.net/debian/pool/non-free/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-nonfree_20161130-2.dsc http://http.debian.net/debian/pool/non-free/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-nonfree_20161130-2.debian.tar.xz
debn00b 2017-01-28 16:15:04
yes Kafei
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:15:17
Thanks missmbob
debn00b 2017-01-28 16:15:41
Kafei firmware-iwlwifi is installed
debn00b 2017-01-28 16:16:29
iwconfig says no wireless extension
missmbob 2017-01-28 16:16:40
heh
missmbob 2017-01-28 16:16:51
/sbin/ifconfig -a shows wlan0?
debn00b 2017-01-28 16:16:57
no
missmbob 2017-01-28 16:17:06
/sbin/ifconfig -a shows wlan0?
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:17:06
What about wlp3s0
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:18:29
I have a newer Lenovo but it has Intel's 8265 card, not the 31xx
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:18:33
Would that make a difference in firmware
Deb8n00b 2017-01-28 16:18:40
am here, no wlan0
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:18:44
slash are you certain which card you've got
Deb8n00b 2017-01-28 16:20:10
I have just inserted the driver CD
Deb8n00b 2017-01-28 16:21:25
here is the info http://pastebin.com/eTLhYSpR
Deb8n00b 2017-01-28 16:21:29
about wlan
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:29:02
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:29:17
Make sure your installation is using a recent enough kernel maybe
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:29:21
Just a guess after I googled
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:29:43
The following devices are supported (since kernel version):
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:29:43
Intel® Wireless 3165 (4.1)
missmbob 2017-01-28 16:29:49
there's backported ones in jessie-backports
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:30:06
That too, which I'd definitely recommend
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:31:51
Kafei: should I format the usb for 2 partitions first before copying over any files? or should i just copy the netinstall.iso to the usb first with cp
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:31:57
and THEN create a new partition for the firmware?
Kafei 2017-01-28 16:32:16
I'm not sure, I always got annoyed enough to just plug in an ethernet cord at that point
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:32:31
lmao, trust me i would if that was an available option
mad_hatter 2017-01-28 16:32:41
at least this way im refurbishing my fdisk chops
jak2000 2017-01-28 16:41:51
anyone can help me: http://pastebin.com/52WA762s last lines please
jak2000 2017-01-28 16:41:55
why i get errors?
