I wonder what's a good approach in separating your services from the bare os?
klys 2017-01-29 01:29:21
realies`, read up on sysvinit
realies` 2017-01-29 01:29:38
klys, thanks!
realies` 2017-01-29 01:30:04
someone said docker, but I've read bad things about getting images from all over the place
realies` 2017-01-29 01:30:38
I assume sysvinit is like chroot?
klys 2017-01-29 01:30:47
it's pid 1
realies` 2017-01-29 01:30:52
ok
realies` 2017-01-29 01:31:20
so the first thing that initialises on the system
klys 2017-01-29 01:31:41
yes, and it has an approach to loading things that I would like you to know.
realies` 2017-01-29 01:32:59
:))
themill 2017-01-29 01:33:50
of course you're probably using systemd not sysvinit so while some concepts have obvious parallels, the documentation won't match what you have sitting in front of you

realies` 2017-01-29 01:41:55
klys, which I've read that it is the first thing it starts on the system and the goes and initialises different services, did you mean for me to read something more specific?
jklmnop1 2017-01-29 01:42:21
Hi! Can someone please tell me the name of a program on Debian 8 (64bit) to compress one or few files with a high rate of compression that preferrably can also be handled by Winzip/Winrar/7zip on Windows hosts please? If possible including full set of parameters too..that'd be great :P Thanks anyway !
jklmnop1 2017-01-29 01:42:32
(.gzip or .tar .. kinda files and such should be openable by Winrar or similar on Windows, for example --I think)
realies` 2017-01-29 01:42:35
themill, good point, not sure what klys wants me to know :)
realies` 2017-01-29 01:43:05
jklmnop1, zip?
jklmnop1 2017-01-29 01:43:32
hm..yeah I guess.. that does a decent work with compressing (size) yeah..?
jklmnop1 2017-01-29 01:44:15
btw.. I compiled a .c file using "x86_64-w64-mingw32-gcc inputfile.c -o outputfile.exe --static" -- any idea if that may be correct, hoping to end with a file being able to run on a Windows host afterwards..? :d
