sstar 2017-01-30 16:45:26
annoying
sstar 2017-01-30 16:48:32
grub is broken
sstar 2017-01-30 16:48:33
i think
random_numbers 2017-01-30 16:53:48
Hello. Is ecryptfs functional by default on debian?
tomcres 2017-01-30 16:57:44
lux_ATOM_netbook, if you type `dmesg | grep brcm`, do you see a message about missing firmware?
sstar 2017-01-30 16:57:55
bla
sstar 2017-01-30 16:58:05
why is grub broken
sstar 2017-01-30 16:58:32
it fails on harddrives and partitions and filesystems
jim 2017-01-30 17:02:35
sstar, what specifically is failing? what is it you're trying to do?
sstar 2017-01-30 17:02:56
eh
sstar 2017-01-30 17:03:04
it cant find disks, partitions and files
sstar 2017-01-30 17:03:10
i know it found them before
sstar 2017-01-30 17:03:19
and it gets loaded from a flash
jim 2017-01-30 17:03:32
so this is when you boot?
sstar 2017-01-30 17:03:41
it worked on that hardware before
sstar 2017-01-30 17:03:55
and grub gets loaded from the flash so i guess access works on the first sectors
sstar 2017-01-30 17:04:04
even if the drive is biglba
sstar 2017-01-30 17:04:19
well (hd0,1) maps to nowhere
sstar 2017-01-30 17:04:46
it stopped working after a upgrade
sstar 2017-01-30 17:04:57
probably because grub configuration changed a bit
jim 2017-01-30 17:05:01
still not quite getting it... what are you trying to do with this happened?
sstar 2017-01-30 17:05:33
if the system fails to configure a working grub configuration well
jim 2017-01-30 17:05:34
booting? installing grub? running the shell?
sstar 2017-01-30 17:05:42
i managed to install grub
sstar 2017-01-30 17:05:58
but it still cannot find partitions and files
sstar 2017-01-30 17:06:03
even that worked before
jim 2017-01-30 17:06:47
are you running the linux that the grub is installed on?
Varegotch 2017-01-30 17:12:06

Varegotch 2017-01-30 17:12:56
Somebody can help me? I've problems with my gnome.
Varegotch 2017-01-30 17:13:29
I haven't the "Activities" menu
Varegotch 2017-01-30 17:13:41
Just have "Aplications" and "Places"
tomcres 2017-01-30 17:15:29
Varegotch, what graphics card and graphics driver are you using?
jim 2017-01-30 17:15:50
sstar, anyway, since you've upgraded, you might want to either reinstall grub (grub-install /dev/sda or sda1, maybe on the /boot), and/or generate a new config file (I think the command is grub-update)... there is probably not enough information to get more specific than that, you could consider providing some.
jim 2017-01-30 17:16:40
sstar, in any case good luck
sstar 2017-01-30 17:17:18
well as i said i installed grub the problem is only when it loads it produces errors and i only got a serial console
sstar 2017-01-30 17:18:14
its difficult to diagnose grub anyway
sstar 2017-01-30 17:20:03
i guess the problem is i need grub-pc-veryoldhardware-net5501 package back
buenouanq 2017-01-30 17:24:48
hi folks
buenouanq 2017-01-30 17:25:36
I have a Think Penguin USB wireless thing that used to work on Debian but is doing weird things now.
buenouanq 2017-01-30 17:26:08
Proper firmware is installed in /lib/firmware/ as it should be.
nikfarm 2017-01-30 17:27:20
jelly: as a lightweight vlc alternative, how about motion?
buenouanq 2017-01-30 17:27:33
But whatever the problem is seems to be bigger than this - It like, traps any commands while its plugged in. If I start or try to run something, nothing happens - Until I unplug it, then everything all gets through at once.
buenouanq 2017-01-30 17:27:48
nikfarm: try mpv - You'll never want to use anything else.

nikfarm 2017-01-30 17:30:10
buenouanq: why is it so superior? motion takes up less space
