oty 2017-01-28 08:13:46
why jessie doesn't have mencoder ? While stretch sid and weezy have ?
oty 2017-01-28 08:14:21
always thought that mencoder and mplayer were two face of the same animal
teclo- 2017-01-28 08:15:20
historical reasons
zykotick9 2017-01-28 08:15:22
oty: jessie doesn't have mplayer...
teraflops 2017-01-28 08:24:14
AlexLikeRock: ffmpeg/libav-tools
awal1 2017-01-28 08:29:59
apt-get purge libreoffice* ok, but how to achieve the same with aptitude?
awal1 2017-01-28 08:30:06
I mean pkg*
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:31:19
Is there anyway to see what nonfree software I've installed threw synaptic?
zykotick9 2017-01-28 08:31:40
CodeMachine: you could install the crappy "vrms" package
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:32:14
zykotick9: How come it's crappy?
AlexLikeRock 2017-01-28 08:32:17
teraflops, , not by terminal
AlexLikeRock 2017-01-28 08:32:21
no taks
zykotick9 2017-01-28 08:32:48
CodeMachine: it's just poorly named i guess. all vrms does is list packages installed from contrib and non-free, that's all it does.
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:33:08
zykotick9: Exacly what I need then :) Thanks bruh.
somiaj 2017-01-28 08:33:38
I think you can use aptitude search to tell you what non-free and contrib packages you have installed too
somiaj 2017-01-28 08:35:28
also remove contrib and non-free from your sources.list and running aptitude search ~o should tell you too
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:36:10
somiaj: Ok, mrms listed my nonfree so that worked. Anyway, is there any chanse that nonfree can be a security breach ?
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:36:26
I mean, is there any difference between non free and free in a matter of security
zykotick9 2017-01-28 08:36:41
somiaj: that's a round-about-method... aptitude search seems to have almost limitless options... i'd be surprised if there wasn't a direct method to list contrib/non-free...
TomTomTo1 2017-01-28 08:36:43
yes, the security team does not cover non-free.
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:37:06
wtf is this shit. Virtualbox is nonfree?
awal1 2017-01-28 08:37:51
I'm playing with my debian VM. I want to remove all libreoffice stuff but apt-get purge libreoffice* wants to remove the whole gnome too. So I did apt-mark manual libreoffice and all fine, all libreoffice related stuff are marked manual, but apt-get purge libreoffice* still want to remove gnome
awal1 2017-01-28 08:38:01
I want to kick off all libreoffice
dontknow 2017-01-28 08:38:19
CodeMachine, it requires non-free software to compile
awal1 2017-01-28 08:38:27
apt-mark manual libreoffice* ^
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:39:29
dontknow: kk. Is there any way to see what software I got that is nonfree, without nonfree software to compile?
zykotick9 2017-01-28 08:39:34
awal1: i wouldn't bother... breaking meta-packages is a pita imo. are you really that short on space? <- fyi, i approach this metapackage issue from the opposite direction, i start with nothing and only install what i want (avoiding the big metapackages), BUT i don't use a DE. good luck.
TomTomTo1 2017-01-28 08:40:49
awal1: gnome still depends on libreoffice. marking it as manually installed does not change that.
dontknow 2017-01-28 08:41:16
CodeMachine, i don't know. do you want completely free system?
awal1 2017-01-28 08:41:31
zykotick9, it' just a VM and I wanted to try recent gnome but I just want to kick libreoffice, not needed
awal1 2017-01-28 08:41:41
TomTomTo1, oh, true
awal1 2017-01-28 08:41:53
gnome depends on libreoffice
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:41:57
dontknow: I want to make sure I don't have any form of security breach. but it looks like the only I got now is nvidia drivesrs (installed from debian website), piding and virtualbox.
njimiuo 2017-01-28 08:42:00
I have problem
awal1 2017-01-28 08:42:25
:( I wasn't expecting that. ok, thanks. giving up so
dontknow 2017-01-28 08:43:01
CodeMachine, pidgin is free software
zykotick9 2017-01-28 08:43:01
dpkg: tell CodeMachine why nvidia installer sucks
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:43:37
dontknow: how come it pops up on my list over nonfree when running mrms?
zykotick9 2017-01-28 08:43:38
!tell CodeMachine why nvidia installer sucks
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:43:57
zykotick9: Does that go for the one installed via debian too? Not threw nvidia.
n4dir 2017-01-28 08:44:05
any many like qemu instead of Virtualbox CodeMachine (might be worth to consider)
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:44:06
looks like dpkg does not agree with you
zykotick9 2017-01-28 08:44:11
CodeMachine: sorry can't remember the tell command, but you should really read "/msg dpkg why nvidia installer sucks"
njimiuo 2017-01-28 08:44:36
I have a device that reads bootcode from the sd slot, but the sd in it is very small, however, it has 4 usb slots (large usb devices) ; how can I let it boot from sd and let the usb take over (thus using the usb to store packages, home folders, etc)
zykotick9 2017-01-28 08:44:39
CodeMachine: no, teh debian provided nvidia drivers would be MUCH MUCH better!
CodeMachine 2017-01-28 08:45:09
zykotick9: ye that's the ones I installed with. Stil it's under my nonfree list?
