When pointed at a Sansa Fuse USB MP3 player, why would the "cfdisk" command say it can partition "any block device", and show the MP3 player's partition table, but the mount command says "/dev/sd"" is not a block device"?
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:17:01
Hmmmm.
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:18:12
"mount /dev/sd" "/media/usb0" with no partition number didn't report an error...
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:19:50
I'd expected to need to also type a partition number, like, for example...
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:20:10
mount /dev/sdd3 /media/usb0
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:29:57
Now my sound card isn't recognized... :-/
klys 2017-01-28 19:34:07
kingsley, are you running udev ?
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:34:30
klys: Thanks for asking.
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:34:37
Yes, indeed I am.
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:34:45
And pulseaudio.
klys 2017-01-28 19:34:58
kingsley, what is the output of "lspci | grep Audio"
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:35:31
klys: Well, well, well!
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:36:04
I'm happy to report that lspci lists a card that looks like what I remember my sound card being.
klys 2017-01-28 19:36:46
kingsley, next step is to find your sound card's identity in a Kconfig at kernel.org
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:37:09
Why?
klys 2017-01-28 19:39:05
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/sound/pci/Kconfig
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:40:45
klys: Maybe I owe you an apology.
klys 2017-01-28 19:40:56
kingsley, then you can sudo modprobe something like snd_hda_codec_realtek
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:42:25
Through no fault of your own, I had not yet mentioned that my pre-existing software and hardware recognized the sound card and used it until about a hour ago.
klys 2017-01-28 19:43:30
kingsley, if your kernel locks up or something weird happens when you modprobe snd_hda_codec_* then just be ready I suppose.
kingsley 2017-01-28 19:43:58
I'd be surprised if a kernel module stopped loading.
klys 2017-01-28 19:44:00
kingsley, you can find currently attached alsa modules with "lspci | grep snd"
klys 2017-01-28 19:44:13
erm
klys 2017-01-28 19:44:19
kingsley, you can find currently attached alsa modules with "lsmod | grep snd"
klys 2017-01-28 19:44:22
sry
klys 2017-01-28 19:44:28
=)
