TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 11:45:55
userrio: show me the full output of dpkg -p docker-engine
verumnost 2017-01-27 11:46:05
has anyone tried to strip down debian server to the basics ?
verumnost 2017-01-27 11:46:14
regarding packages
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 11:47:07
the debian netinst image already has only packages with priority required and important if you don't select anything else in the installer.
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 11:47:26
any installer image, for that matter.
tp43_ 2017-01-27 11:47:58
verumnost, I think you have the wrong idea, what are you trying to do
silverhome 2017-01-27 11:48:03
TomTomTo1: when you do apt-get -t jessie-backports install firmware-iwlwifi you get the iwlwifi 0.43 package and when you do it from not backports you get the same
silverhome 2017-01-27 11:48:05
verison
silverhome 2017-01-27 11:48:09
version*
RajRajRaj 2017-01-27 11:48:12
Are you people saying that, since i have nvidia. I will always have heating problem ?
RajRajRaj 2017-01-27 11:48:28
And i wont be able to run any distro
RajRajRaj 2017-01-27 11:48:47
This looks like never ending thing.
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 11:48:53
silverhome: that's not right. please show me the apt-cache policy firmware-iwlwifi output i requested.
verumnost 2017-01-27 11:49:00
tp43_: I want to use debian server to test basic network functionality - maybe in a cluster (with vms)
verumnost 2017-01-27 11:49:31
tp43_: and I want to spin 10 debians at once so I am trying to remove stuff
tp43_ 2017-01-27 11:50:51
verumnost, you don't need to strip down debian to do network stuff, but what TomTomTo1 said, netinstall is a minimalist install. Busy Box is an extremely minimal linux distro btw.
verumnost 2017-01-27 11:51:17
tp43_: netinstall is what I have
verumnost 2017-01-27 11:51:32
tp43_: but If I am right, there are things not needed

hello everyone, if i willing change my gpu (using amd) did i neet to reinstall my driver (using opensource driver)
userrio 2017-01-27 11:53:22
Can you see it TomTomTo1?
tp43_ 2017-01-27 11:53:33
tp43_, like what, open deselect and remove stuff, but you will see a bunch of cryptic name of packages that you will have no idea what there purpose is and you will spend hours, days or what not just wasting your time. If there is a software installed and you don't use it, it wont hurt you. You can load up linux systems with out problems, its not like an iphone or windows like if you have too much software things get slow.
Midnightx 2017-01-27 11:53:38
my old gpu is amd change to newer amd
user16 2017-01-27 11:54:17
midnight i think debian will do it when you reboot
Midnightx 2017-01-27 11:54:53
user16, so i dont not need to apt-get remove right?
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 11:55:13
userrio: try dpkg --purge --force-all docker-engine
silverhome 2017-01-27 11:56:39
TomTomTo1: Ops i just saw that it never installed the backport package for some reason now it works thanks anyway C:
user16 2017-01-27 11:56:42
midnight apt-get remove what? likely since your new gpu is AMD also, rebooting once will do it
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 11:57:34
silverhome: probably a typo in -t jessie-backports. hi btw, i remember you from some efnet channels. ^^
silverhome 2017-01-27 11:57:47
D:
silverhome 2017-01-27 11:57:54
well im on the teksyndicate channels
moretea 2017-01-27 11:59:11
hi does anyone here know of a good software library I can add to debian?
tp43_ 2017-01-27 11:59:11
verumnost, But I understand your thinking, and what I mentioned I did, and it was pointless
userrio 2017-01-27 12:00:41
TomTomTo1, it is still showing. It is saying package is in very inconsistent state and that I should reinstall it before removing it. :(
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:00:57
verumnost, if you want to gain a deep understanding of Linux and building distros you should check out busybox, it would be a year long project though, I skipped it, I am into Web Design and OpenGl and stuff now. You can buy a vps for cheap and load a fresh install of debian with a button click.
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 12:01:29
userrio: well, then get another packager from the docker repo and use that to reinstall.
Midnightx 2017-01-27 12:01:59
user16, i mean, right now i am using amd card 6xxx then i will replace with r9 2xx, so, what i must to do, did i need change my driver like windows
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:02:36
verumnost, or look into building debian packages and using dpkg directly. There is this thing called alien to, lets you install ubunutu package on debian.
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:04:27
verumnost, you know about aptitude and synaptic right?
userrio 2017-01-27 12:05:03
TomTomTo1, it is not installing.
userrio 2017-01-27 12:05:57
I think I have to reinstall whole os
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:06:47
userrio, you know apt-get purge?
userrio 2017-01-27 12:07:04
I did that already
user16 2017-01-27 12:07:07
midnight are you using fglrx or just open source?
userrio 2017-01-27 12:07:10
It didn't solve it
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:07:58
userrio, did you try to re-install then purge -cause it said it was incomplete state, try to re-install first
user16 2017-01-27 12:08:11
i think apt-get update and upgrade after you install the new card
userrio 2017-01-27 12:10:18
tp43_, how to do that?
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:10:45
apt-get install
user16 2017-01-27 12:11:08
uhoh i was talking to mignight
Midnightx 2017-01-27 12:11:08
user16 as long i remember , just open source like https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo (anyway tnks for help)
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:11:09
apt-get install docker.io in your case I think
user16 2017-01-27 12:11:20
ok
userrio 2017-01-27 12:12:49
It gives an error
userrio 2017-01-27 12:13:07
that docker-engine needs to be reinstalled
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:13:44
userrio, you did apt-get install docker-engine and it says it needs to be re-installed?
userrio 2017-01-27 12:14:32
yes but it says that regardless of what I type after apt-get lol
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:15:28
userrio, try aptitude
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:16:14
I had problems with backports in the past too
userrio 2017-01-27 12:18:04
never mind
userrio 2017-01-27 12:18:14
I'm reinstalling the os
userrio 2017-01-27 12:18:19
I'm done
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:18:45
userrio, aptitude won't start?
userrio 2017-01-27 12:18:51
There's nothing important in there anyway
userrio 2017-01-27 12:19:03
I already tried apt though
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:19:39
remove backports from the repo. Aptitude can help sometimes, worth a try,
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 12:19:51
this has nothing to do with backports...
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:20:02
remove backports from source.list I mean
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 12:20:12
this has still nothing to do with backports...
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:20:25
TomTomTo1, isn't docker-engine a package from backports
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 12:20:29
no.
userrio 2017-01-27 12:20:49
I reinstalled the os
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 12:21:03
it's a package from upstream.
fnljk 2017-01-27 12:21:33
join #debian-offtopic
userrio 2017-01-27 12:22:00
lol how is this offtopic xD
fnljk 2017-01-27 12:22:15
sorry, missed the slash.
random_numbers 2017-01-27 12:22:31
Is there a list of free-firmware USB devices and such that debian is compatible with? I'm looking for a bluetooth transceiver that doesn't require non-free.
userrio 2017-01-27 12:22:36
oh lol
tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:22:41
whats upstream?
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 12:22:56
Docker Inc.
userrio 2017-01-27 12:24:08
I thought he was telling us to join #debian-offtopic lol
userrio 2017-01-27 12:25:26
now this is getting off-topic xD
userrio 2017-01-27 12:25:34
Ok I'll stop
zykotick9 2017-01-27 12:25:39

tp43_ 2017-01-27 12:26:04
userrio, maybe this one will be easier https://github.com/docker/docker/wiki/debian-package
TomTomTo1 2017-01-27 12:26:39
tp43_: just stop...
random_numbers 2017-01-27 12:27:03
zykotick9: Oh, FSF. Seems promising, thanks.
Bray90820 2017-01-27 12:29:27
So I am using pixel debian for the raspberry pi and I can't seem to get my 2.4ghz mouse working
