awal1 2017-01-27 15:45:16
and dpkg -L firefox-esr ?
john_31750 2017-01-27 15:45:44
https://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=digital-forensic
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 15:46:18
awal1, http://paste.debian.net/911037/ is the result of dpkg -L firefox-esr
themill 2017-01-27 15:46:31
None of that is surprising or really relevant btw
awal1 2017-01-27 15:48:44
well, she wants to remove firefox-esr and iceweasel stuff and have firefox standard release....
hiexpo 2017-01-27 15:49:04
pfffffffffffffff
awal1 2017-01-27 15:49:16
don't do nothing and leave all like it is isn't a solution, themill :P
themill 2017-01-27 15:49:29
awal1: and that's not possible
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 15:49:33
I just wanting to make sure it was safe.
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 15:50:05
s/wanting/wanted/;
hiexpo 2017-01-27 15:50:08
you want 100 percent safe get off the net
awal1 2017-01-27 15:50:11
themill, I know it's not possible without removing 'firefox' also
awal1 2017-01-27 15:51:13
and maybe other stuff, if iceweasel/firefox-esr was recommended by gnome, x task-desktop or I don't know what
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 15:52:15
But it looks like I am going to be keeping this Firefox/Iceweasel mess on my system. One day I hope Debian comes up with a clean up for all of it.
hiexpo 2017-01-27 15:53:01
whats the mess
themill 2017-01-27 15:53:06
Nothing like that is going to change in jessie
Heston 2017-01-27 15:53:16
uninstall iceweasel, that's it. its that simple
Heston 2017-01-27 15:53:25
it's going to leave behind firefox-esr
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 15:53:35
hiexpo, having Firefox, Firefox-ESR, and Iceweasel on on my computer when I only use Firefox.
Heston 2017-01-27 15:53:49
which is an extended release supported version of firefox, so it's just as secure
hiexpo 2017-01-27 15:53:53
remove the others
awal1 2017-01-27 15:53:58
you can achieve what you want if you really wanted, it just needs a bit of time. but It's your system, I dont know why/how you have firefox / firefox-esr
hiexpo 2017-01-27 15:53:58
like he said
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 15:54:25
awali, I don't either, it is a great mystery to me.
themill 2017-01-27 15:54:59
Lady_Aleena, awal1: it's not a mystery at all. Your original apt output explained it
themill 2017-01-27 15:55:18
Lady_Aleena: You. don't. have. iceweasel.
themill 2017-01-27 15:56:31
Lady_Aleena: your "dpkg -L iceweasel" output shows you the package does not actually include a browser. If you have firefox-esr installed, you don't have the iceweasel browser installed.
awal1 2017-01-27 15:57:56
if you installed manually iceweasel, you will be able to remove/purge it (apt remove/purge firefox-esr) and also firefox; you user config will be kept intact in ~/.mozilla. then just reinstall it (apt install firefox)
awal1 2017-01-27 15:58:28
Lady_Alena, I guess purging firefox-esr + iceweasel all iceweasel stuff will go out
themill 2017-01-27 15:58:29
umm... no. Seriously.
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 15:59:14
So iceweasel is just a placeholder or a link to firefox-esr.
themill 2017-01-27 15:59:15
We established half an hour ago that wasn't going to work unless a pile of other packages were removed as well.
themill 2017-01-27 15:59:19
Lady_Aleena: yes
themill 2017-01-27 15:59:29
Lady_Aleena: packages have descriptions, remember.
hiexpo 2017-01-27 15:59:49
yes its a sym link
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 15:59:55
I don't know how to get to the descriptions on the command line.
awal1 2017-01-27 16:00:36
Lady_Alena, user configs are stored in home dir (.mozilla)
themill 2017-01-27 16:01:13
awal1: please stop before you actually cause breakage.
themill 2017-01-27 16:01:59
Lady_Aleena: apt-cache show $pkg; same way as you did back in 2013 and 2014 when you asked ;)
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:02:23
themill, I haven't used it in quite a while, so I forgot.
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:04:35
ACK! I got descriptions for 4 versions of Iceweasel, though all say it can be safely removed.
themill 2017-01-27 16:05:16
Unless, of course, something relies on that package being installed.
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:05:24
Except for iceweasel v 38.8.0esr~deb8ul
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:05:57
or it is deb8u1, I can't tell the difference between 1 and l on the command line.
awal1 2017-01-27 16:09:52
Lady_Aleena, I really still curious about removing iceweasel pkg simulating. what says "aptitude -s purge iceweasel" Maybe stupid, but themill please don't blame me :(
awal1 2017-01-27 16:10:11
that's my last words about lady alena "issue"
themill 2017-01-27 16:10:39
awal1: we saw that output 45 min ago.
awal1 2017-01-27 16:10:43
Lady-Alena, as regular user please, not root
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:12:27
I am so mad at my 1990s self for getting dazzled by Microsoft Windows and not staying with *nix.
awal1 2017-01-27 16:12:34
oh, ok; nvm so; sorry, I missed her output bcoz distracted by youtube video. I'm off so, 1000 excuses :P
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:13:36
If I had stayed with *nix back then, I wouldn't be the mess you know now.
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:16:50
Well, I just wasted all of your time with this. I can't tell if firefox and firefox-esr have any crossovers, so I guess I am keeping everything.
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:18:05
I'm sorry awal1, themill, hiexpo.
awal1 2017-01-27 16:18:29
Lady_Alena, no problem :P
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:18:54
I have no f***ing idea what I am doing 99% of the time.
awal1 2017-01-27 16:20:07
I don't understand if really possible to have two firefox versions running in same system
themill 2017-01-27 16:20:14
dpkg, coffee Lady_Aleena
awal1 2017-01-27 16:20:15
google say NO
awal1 2017-01-27 16:20:26
what about user configs and so?
awal1 2017-01-27 16:22:53
Lady_Alena, firefox open ---» help ---» about which version you see?
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:24:10
Here is what I wanted to clean up if anyone is interested... http://fantasy.xecu.net/files/images/morefoxthanneeded.png
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:24:27
dpkg, cookies themill
dpkg 2017-01-27 16:24:27
Lady_Aleena: I'm not sure, is it larger than a breadbox?
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:24:36
No cookies?!
themill 2017-01-27 16:25:05
Lady_Aleena: you can edit the K menu contents to remove the ones you don't want to see
Lady_Aleena 2017-01-27 16:26:06
And I wish I could stop my cat from attacking my wrists, mousing is a problem with wrists which hurt when they are placed on a surface edge.
tharkun 2017-01-27 16:34:52
My laptop is failing to upgrade the kernel it complains about not having enough space in /var partition. Is /var/spool/cups/tmp safe to erase?
tharkun 2017-01-27 16:35:28
/dev/mapper/Tharkun-lv_var 9.3G 7.8G 1.1G 89% /var I believe 1.1G should be enough?
themill 2017-01-27 16:38:30
sounds pretty odd. that should be mountains of space for anything (unless you're also upgrading from jessie to stretch as well by accident)
tharkun 2017-01-27 16:43:35
by no means it is a vanilla flavour install separate partitions as recomended by the installer.
tharkun 2017-01-27 16:44:08
How much space does /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64_3.16.39-1_amd64.deb needs to be installed?
tharkun 2017-01-27 16:44:57
aptitudes says it Will use 91.1 kB of disk space DL Size: 33.9 MB
