nkuttler 2017-01-29 12:45:16
not realy, network manager should just work. if you use stable there's no good reason for this to stop working
nkuttler 2017-01-29 12:45:22
have you rebooted since the problem started?
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:45:44
I did, and them came here.
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:45:55
then*
nkuttler 2017-01-29 12:46:13
if you have a usb wlan interface, now would be the time to test with it
cmj 2017-01-29 12:46:43
do people reboot to resolve issues?
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:46:50
how so? XD
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:47:01
usb wlan?
nkuttler 2017-01-29 12:47:18
cmj: when you're out of ideas it can't hurt to try
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:48:44
So, how does that work?
nkuttler 2017-01-29 12:49:24
nChomsky: you'd know if you had one
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:49:58
So, no dice. XD
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:50:24
Ok, maybe I have one,
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:50:27
It
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:50:49
is that little usb connect with an anthenna?
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:50:58
connector*
nkuttler 2017-01-29 12:51:13
nChomsky: that could be one. anything written on it?
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:51:38
Let me see, I have it on other computer.
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:53:24
Aaaand it disappeared...
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:53:45
Ah... Backup and reinstall then?
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:53:59
XD
nkuttler 2017-01-29 12:54:13
what disappeared? no, i doubt a reinstall would change much
nkuttler 2017-01-29 12:54:33
nChomsky: you could purge network-manager, in case you botched the config or something, and reinstall it
nkuttler 2017-01-29 12:55:22
nChomsky: oh, and of course you could try other cli tools to connect, wpa_supplicant
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:55:42
Ok, let's try that'
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:56:49
How does it work?
nkuttler 2017-01-29 12:57:37
wpa_supplicant? no idea, i use network-manager..
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:57:55
Just a quick commentary,
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:58:24
I now used the "ncmli d" command.
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:58:57
wlan0 appears as "unmanaged"
nChomsky 2017-01-29 12:59:59
Even if it failed to connect, shouldn't it appear as being managed by NetworkManager?
norbert 2017-01-29 13:02:04
hi, can someone check on Debian - I'm on Mint myself - what Debian says in response to: $ export|grep XDG_CONFIG_HOME
nkuttler 2017-01-29 13:04:11
norbert: nothing
norbert 2017-01-29 13:04:20
nkuttler: thanks
nkuttler 2017-01-29 13:04:32
nChomsky: is the device mentioned in /etc/network/interfaces ?
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:05:38
It is.
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:05:55
Is says so:
nkuttler 2017-01-29 13:06:02
nChomsky: then nm won't touch it...
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:06:22
Huh?
nkuttler 2017-01-29 13:06:55
nChomsky: nm doesn't manage devices configured there
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:07:24
Well then, should i just erase it from there, then?
nkuttler 2017-01-29 13:07:36
sounds like a plan
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:08:57
Let me just tell you how it is written there, just to check if I'm not saying something stupid.
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:09:23
#The primary network interface
nkuttler 2017-01-29 13:09:32
nChomsky: paste.debian.net
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:10:11
Ok.
prasal 2017-01-29 13:14:12
hi, can somebody tell me how to change gtk themes with lxappearance, gtk-theme-switch or manually? i downloaded a zip-file, extracted it, copied it in ~/.themes, but it did not show up in lxappearance or gtk-theme-switch. also there are many themes in /usr/share/themes that don't show up.
awal1 2017-01-29 13:17:38
how youtube-dl chose the format of the downloaded file? sometimes .opus sometime m4a, sometimes mkv ...
awal1 2017-01-29 13:17:53
format for ^
OerHeks 2017-01-29 13:19:01
you can see what download options you have, https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl/blob/master/README.md#format-selection
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:19:35

* with --list-formats or -F
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:20:12
There you go, sorry for the delay. Had to transcribe it.
awal1 2017-01-29 13:20:17
ok, I check that
awal1 2017-01-29 13:20:23
thanks
OerHeks 2017-01-29 13:20:50
you might get tons of formats with -F, lolz
awal1 2017-01-29 13:22:28
hm, ok, I'm aware about that; what I wanted to know exactly is why / how y-dl chose formats if not specified by the user
TomTomTosch 2017-01-29 13:24:06
it's in the first sentence of that text...
TomTomTosch 2017-01-29 13:24:18
which also can be found in the man page.
CodeMachine 2017-01-29 13:24:23
Hello guys. Is there anyone that knows how to set the gufw to automatically be ON once I fire up my computer?
awal1 2017-01-29 13:25:55
0erHeks, TomTomTosch, oh, ok, I get it now; I had to learn that 3 times for get it, bad english here, ok, thanks
awal1 2017-01-29 13:29:19
CodeMachine, once you install ufw (+ it's gui front-end 'gufw'), just run: ufw enable
awal1 2017-01-29 13:29:32
then it will be loaded at boot time
awal1 2017-01-29 13:29:55
ufw disable if you want to disable it
awal1 2017-01-29 13:30:17
as root ^
CodeMachine 2017-01-29 13:30:54
awal1: was very confused until u said root =D thanks.
awal1 2017-01-29 13:31:30
you get a short message sayins something like " ok, firewall (or disabled)enabled during startup "
CodeMachine 2017-01-29 13:31:57
awal1: yes I got "Firewall is active and enabled on system startup"
awal1 2017-01-29 13:32:11
you are done so
awal1 2017-01-29 13:33:25
default rules will be loaded , ok
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:33:31
Hello there, I disconnected.
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:33:39
https://paste.debian.net/hidden/c0c57267/
missmbob 2017-01-29 13:33:50
why would there be default rules?
S1ohy 2017-01-29 13:33:56
mplayer: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libass.so.5: undefined symbol: FT_Outline_EmboldenXY
S1ohy 2017-01-29 13:33:59
I have libassa3.5-5-dev installed
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:34:27
My NetworkManager stopped managind Wi-fi connections
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:35:22
The /etc/network/interfaces file had it listed.
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:35:37
As shown in the paste above.
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:36:32
I tried deleting its description from the text,
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:38:12
Changing "managed =false " to "true" in the/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:38:42
And reset it with sudo services NetworkManager restart
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:39:37
At the very least Wi-fi resumed to appear in the "Network" window as an option.
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:39:59
But the wi-fi channels aren't listed.
nChomsky 2017-01-29 13:40:15
