mezzer 2017-01-25 01:45:44
is this irc channel accessed by pc users more than debian users?
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:45:52
<< pc user
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:45:58
so asking
TinyTux 2017-01-25 01:46:01
PC = hardware; Debian = software
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:46:04
I think this is great questions
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:46:33
I love that I'm using pc to irc to debian irc questions ..
petn-randall 2017-01-25 01:46:47
!survey
dpkg 2017-01-25 01:46:48
i heard survey is Don't ask whether 'somebody uses ' unless conducting a survey. Ask the question that you want to ask.
petn-randall 2017-01-25 01:53:14
SynrG: thanks
du5tball 2017-01-25 01:54:50
why does debian auto-generate ISO locales?
pzn 2017-01-25 02:12:58
which doc should I recommend to learn about debian 8 system initialization? the debian users manual is outdated about this topic
klys 2017-01-25 02:17:38
pzn, first choose between sysvinit, systemd, or upstart. then read available docs.
petn-randall 2017-01-25 02:23:26
pzn: https://debian-handbook.info/ might cover the questions you have, if not, feel free to ask in here.
Iridos 2017-01-25 02:26:44
I am thinking of getting a PS3 Eye camera because it is capable of >100fps… apparently people got it to run around 2009 http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/4079/ … anyone got that to run with a current kernel?
Kyoshiro 2017-01-25 02:29:38
hi, I've just switched to grub-efi-amd64 on debian jessie, and now when booting the server I get stuck at "loading initial ramdisk" and server automatically reboots (it boots properly on a non Xen version of Linux)
petn-randall 2017-01-25 02:31:16
Kyoshiro: What were you running before?
Kyoshiro 2017-01-25 02:31:37
grub-pc
Kyoshiro 2017-01-25 02:31:45
I just changed that
Kyoshiro 2017-01-25 02:32:27
although I have random issues with classic Linux not booting either and complaining about smpboot: CPU1 not repsonding (on all cpus)
Kyoshiro 2017-01-25 02:33:02
should I switch back to grub-pc maybe ?
petn-randall 2017-01-25 02:33:05
Kyoshiro: It's not enough to just install grub-efi-amd64 to be able to boot into UEFI mode.
Kyoshiro 2017-01-25 02:33:20
yeah I did a lot of changes on the boot partition indeed
Kyoshiro 2017-01-25 02:33:35
I split the /boot into /boot and an EFI dedicated partition
petn-randall 2017-01-25 02:33:37
Kyoshiro: You have to enable EFI mode and boot into it before grub-efi-amd64 can access the ESP, which is needed to make it bootable. So it's a bootstrapping problem.
Kyoshiro 2017-01-25 02:33:49
and I changed bios option to EFI mode instead of legacy
Kyoshiro 2017-01-25 02:34:35
I can access grub properly, and I can exec things from the EFI partition in EFI shell
Kyoshiro 2017-01-25 02:35:44
I get this from standard Linux boot (half of the time) http://imgur.com/a/OQhUt
pzn 2017-01-25 02:38:13
klys, petn-randall: thanks
petn-randall 2017-01-25 02:38:45
Kyoshiro: The way to fix it is to boot a live system in *EFI* mode, chroot into your installation, and run grub-install once grub-efi-amd64 is installed.
kyellow 2017-01-25 02:39:03
When does debian 9 come in, is there the defined date
petn-randall 2017-01-25 02:39:09
!wwsr
dpkg 2017-01-25 02:39:09
Well... it's starting to get distinctly chilly... Debian 9 "Stretch" will probably release in mid-2017. It will release sooner if you help fix bugs in stretch and sid... take that as a challenge. Ask me about ,
Kyoshiro 2017-01-25 02:40:12
petn-randall, in fact it sometimes boot properly in EFI mode, and I did run grub-install and update-grub from there
