TinyTux 2017-01-25 01:06:52
Hey, me (again) from yesterday or so
TinyTux 2017-01-25 01:07:51
I've tried Debian Stable but its kernel 3.16 is very unuseable for Kaby Lake, and I don't really trust nor like backports. I've seen stretch has a RC1 installer, can I use this instead? :)
klys 2017-01-25 01:12:12
tinytus, anything preventing you from rolling your own kernel there?
klys 2017-01-25 01:12:21
tinytux*
TinyTux 2017-01-25 01:13:24
Yes: incompatibility with jessies X server o_O
klys 2017-01-25 01:14:37
what's your video hardware make/model?
noc_ 2017-01-25 01:14:54
could installing stretch's kernel work?
TinyTux 2017-01-25 01:15:47
Intel everywhere
klys 2017-01-25 01:32:50
tinytux, does FB_INTEL=y ? zgrep FB_INTEL /proc/config.gz
klys 2017-01-25 01:34:43
tinytux, also have a look at https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/gpu/drm/Kconfig to see if your hardware is supported
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:34:46
is debian on the cloud now?
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:34:56
I hate github
klys 2017-01-25 01:35:24
github was created to allow collaboration over the linux kernel.
TinyTux 2017-01-25 01:35:26
mezzer: I don't thing that Torvalds is developing Debian :P
TinyTux 2017-01-25 01:35:31

mezzer 2017-01-25 01:36:28
do pc users access irc and linux systems?
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:36:47
drivers written
klys 2017-01-25 01:36:56
are you an non-pc xenophobe? pc users use all systems.
TinyTux 2017-01-25 01:37:10
klys: all? define all.
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:37:29
I'm a non idea person.chode.
Johann 2017-01-25 01:37:31
"[13:35:24] klys │ github was created to allow collaboration over the linux kernel." <- git was, not github
klys 2017-01-25 01:37:38
tinytux, you would have a difficult time finding a system that didn't work with the pc.
petn-randall 2017-01-25 01:37:53
TinyTux: If you have Kabylake hardware, you need the kernel and the X11 drivers from jessie-backports. Installing stretch is not the recommended way to fix this issue.
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:37:54
pc wins.z 2017
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:37:57

TinyTux 2017-01-25 01:38:24
petn-randall: I really dislike the backports :(
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:38:25
pc system lettin' ya know.
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:38:30
maybe yes
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:38:38
but pc system lettin ya know.
petn-randall 2017-01-25 01:38:44
TinyTux: Then there's no solution to your problem. Why do you dislike backports?
petn-randall 2017-01-25 01:38:57
mezzer: Do you have a support question?
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:38:57
tinyurl and tiny domains are shit

#debian is primarily a support channel for Debian users. Please keep the discussions in #debian on-topic and take longer discussions and non-support questions to #debian-offtopic. Imagine the chaos if each of the hundreds of people in the channel felt the need to wander off topic for a few minutes every day.
TinyTux 2017-01-25 01:39:24
petn-randall: They're not maintained by the official Debian developers, iirc ... or are they?
mezzer 2017-01-25 01:39:32
sure; it's it possible to place a layer outside of my isp?
petn-randall 2017-01-25 01:39:37
TinyTux: Of course they are.
TinyTux 2017-01-25 01:39:42
Ohh
petn-randall 2017-01-25 01:40:24
!jessie-backports
dpkg 2017-01-25 01:40:24
Selected packages intended for the Debian 9 "Stretch" release but recompiled for use with "Jessie" (8.x) can be found in the "jessie-backports" repository. Note that jessie-backports are on the regular mirror network, not on backports.debian.org. A suitable line for your sources.list is «deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ jessie-backports main». Also ask me about .

SynrG 2017-01-25 01:42:53

petn-randall 2017-01-25 01:44:55
mezzer: If you don't have any support questions please use a better suiting channel. This is a Debian support channel.
