rs, remove "gnome" metapackage and after that autoremove
somiaj 2017-01-25 08:46:55
rs: it kinda depends on how they were installed. removing the metapackage task-desktop-gnome or gnome-core should remove everything else after that.
DeaDSouL_ 2017-01-25 08:46:58
Vizva: how did you fix it ?
somiaj 2017-01-25 08:47:21
rs: note if you have manually installed other software which depends on gnomelibs (not uncommon) those wno't be removed since you have manually installed other software that needs it.
rs 2017-01-25 08:47:37
somiaj: whatever gnome installed would have happened during the installation "desktop enviroment". gnome specifically.
Vizva 2017-01-25 08:47:40
install proprietary software
Vizva 2017-01-25 08:47:57
nvidia and bumblebee

Vizva 2017-01-25 08:48:39
it did affect my cpu got stalls , the nouveau
somiaj 2017-01-25 08:48:43
rs: that installs task-desktop-gnome or some metapackage like that, removing that metapackage should remove everything that it installed (that you have not manually installed at a later time or manually installed something else that depends on them)
somiaj 2017-01-25 08:49:01
rs: sorry, package is task-gnome-desktop
rs 2017-01-25 08:49:15
somiaj: i haven't installed anything other than what the installer did with the selection of "desktop enviroment". id like to roll it back and use a window manager only without needing to uninstall each of those apps one by one or reinstalling debian
oskie 2017-01-25 08:49:18
reboot really does do miracles
rs 2017-01-25 08:49:35
somiaj: awesome, thanks!
tomcres 2017-01-25 08:49:50
,v corebird
judd 2017-01-25 08:49:51
Package: corebird on amd64 -- sid: 1.4.1-1; stretch: 1.4.1-1
DeaDSouL_ 2017-01-25 08:50:36
Vizva: ok, i'm searching the web .. and i tried this command 'glxheads` and it shows that the AMD is the one whos rendering ... so the problem is with the cpu... it's very easy to get very hot
DeaDSouL_ 2017-01-25 08:50:45
is there any optimization for it?
newbie22 2017-01-25 08:54:53
hello, I am going to take the Comptia Linux+ certification. Does anyone have any suggenstions for study guides?

*:hello, I am going to take the Comptia Linux+ certification. Does anyone have any suggenstions for study guides
Raineer 2017-01-25 08:56:50
i used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0071841687 and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1119021189
Raineer 2017-01-25 08:56:55
those worked for me
Raineer 2017-01-25 08:57:12
i took the LPIC-1 but same difference
somiaj 2017-01-25 08:58:15
newbie22: maybe ask in ##linux, this channel is more specific on debian support, not certification
Heston 2017-01-25 09:02:10
newbie22, I'd start reading here https://www.debian.org/doc/. It'd be a pretty good foundation
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:06:51
Heston: newbie22: or the handbook, https://debian-handbook.info/
Heston 2017-01-25 09:08:20
somiaj, that handbook is indexed at https://www.debian.org/doc/
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:08:26
ahh
moncrey 2017-01-25 09:13:16
looking for a little guidance regarding key remapping. xmodmap -pke > .xmodmap, then modifying that file, doesnt seem to have any effect
moncrey 2017-01-25 09:13:44
trying to swap my L_Control and Caps_Lock
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:13:58
moncrey: xmodmap is for key modifiers, keys is a bit different.
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:14:34
oh seems it does keys too, nevermind me
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:15:25
moncrey: after you created and modifed that file, did you load it, 'xmodmap .xmodmap'?
moncrey 2017-01-25 09:15:45
will try again. i had done that in the past. one sec
Heston 2017-01-25 09:16:54
moncrey, are you using a DE? It might take precedence over those values
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:17:09
moncrey: http://askubuntu.com/questions/24916/how-do-i-remap-certain-keys-or-devices -- note check the actual answer there. Moving ctrl and caps_lock may have additional issues, so you might have to change how their modifiers work too.
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:17:33
moncrey: since ctrl is usually used as a modifer, the second answer seems address this
moncrey 2017-01-25 09:17:35
thats what i had been using. i'll go back and see if somehow i missed a detail.
moncrey 2017-01-25 09:17:40
oh. okay thank you
Pr0metheus 2017-01-25 09:20:35
is there a way to see if my usb ports are working as 3.0?
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:22:22
Pr0metheus: dmesg should tell you what driver is loaded, the usb3 driver is not the same as usb2
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:22:34
if it is about a paticulr device, when you plug in the device it should say what driver(s) are being used
Pr0metheus 2017-01-25 09:23:41
thanks for the info, it is a pci card i have installed
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:23:52
shoudln't matter if it is pci or onboard
Pr0metheus 2017-01-25 09:24:28
dmesg is long:)
moncrey 2017-01-25 09:25:13
if you plug something into it, it will show up at the bottom of dmesg
moncrey 2017-01-25 09:25:24
...the next time you run it
Pr0metheus 2017-01-25 09:26:04
ok let me do this
Pr0metheus 2017-01-25 09:26:41
the driver is xhci_hcd?
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:26:42
Pr0metheus: yea, easy way is plug a devince into the usb part, then demsg | tail (it will be at the end)
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:27:15
yup, that is the usb3 driver, now check if a usb3 device actually gets the correct speed with that last comment.
Pr0metheus 2017-01-25 09:28:03
i don't see anything more
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:28:29
you will see more info about the device that is plugged in, as opposed to just the ports.
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:28:34
or should
Pr0metheus 2017-01-25 09:28:37
https://paste.gnome.org/pvirmds3j
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:29:54
Yup, it looks like it is using the usb3 driver
Pr0metheus 2017-01-25 09:30:13
i guess if it would run as usb2 it would use the usb2 driver
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:30:14
not most newer andriod devices don't use usbmass storage and use some mtp protocol which is kinda just slow, despite usb3
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:30:43
on my andriod (LG G3) I have to use developermode to get a transfer protocol that has any speed
somiaj 2017-01-25 09:30:46
mtp is just slow
Pr0metheus 2017-01-25 09:30:57
yeap true
Pr0metheus 2017-01-25 09:30:59
noticed it also
