Hi, Im trying to apt-get install php5 but im getting this error:E: Package 'php5' has no installation candidate, I've already apt-get updated, upgraded, and dist-upgraded. Not sure what the issue is

burnthishome, Jessie?
burnthishome 2017-01-25 12:02:27
Brigo, yes Im running Kali rolling which is based on Debian Jessie
Brigo 2017-01-25 12:02:38
let me guess:
Brigo 2017-01-25 12:02:42
!kali
dpkg 2017-01-25 12:02:42
Kali Linux (http://www.kali.org/) is a security and penetration testing distribution from the creators of . It is based on Debian, but it is not Debian and is not supported in #debian. Seek help in #kali-linux on chat.freenode.net or http://forums.kali.org/ . Also ask me about , and read http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/hacker-howto.html
Brigo 2017-01-25 12:03:03
i knew dpkg would know it :)
Brigo 2017-01-25 12:03:35
burnthishome, i hint would be there is no "rolling" in Debian.
burnthishome 2017-01-25 12:04:10
It's just forked debian jessie packages
Brigo 2017-01-25 12:04:31
burnthishome, it looks like it isn't.
OerHeks 2017-01-25 12:05:02
burnthishome, time to read their package list http://tools.kali.org/kali-metapackages
OerHeks 2017-01-25 12:05:12
anyway, offtopic in #debian
Brigo 2017-01-25 12:05:37
you are welcome :D
Brigo 2017-01-25 12:06:14
OerHeks, we shouldn't bother a guy with such a nick :D
Toordog 2017-01-25 12:14:01
is anyone noticed the gpg key for the repository for debian wheezy puppet is expired since 2017-01-05 ?
TomTomTosch 2017-01-25 12:15:53
which repository exactly?
TomTomTosch 2017-01-25 12:18:52
either way, you might want to contact the third party responsible for said repository.

Puppet is an open source configuration management tool for automating system administration tasks. http://docs.puppetlabs.com/ http://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/puppet #puppet on irc.freenode.net.
Iridos 2017-01-25 12:23:56
I know that
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:24:17
How to enable the guest account in debian 8?
Iridos 2017-01-25 12:24:28
but I don't know what "the repository for debian wheezy puppet" is supposed to be
Iridos 2017-01-25 12:24:36
judd, versions puppet
judd 2017-01-25 12:24:37
Package: puppet on amd64 -- wheezy-security: 2.7.23-1~deb7u3; wheezy: 2.7.23-1~deb7u3; wheezy-backports: 3.7.2-4~bpo70+1; jessie: 3.7.2-4; jessie-backports: 3.8.5-2~bpo8+1; stretch: 4.5.2-1; stretch: 4.8.1-1; sid: 4.8.2-1
Iridos 2017-01-25 12:24:54
maybe he just means main
TomTomTosch 2017-01-25 12:25:06
i just guess they meant the repository upstream provides.
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:25:44
does anyone know how to enable the guest account ??
Iridos 2017-01-25 12:25:47
it's probably not worth speculating then, as we guessed differently ^ ^
Iridos 2017-01-25 12:26:46
what is "the guest account"
missmbob 2017-01-25 12:27:23
it's best not to ask such questions. otherwise they remain
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:27:29
Iridos: when you click on 'switch user' ... there should be a guest account... like a temporary account
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:28:37
"should"?
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:28:58
or are you just comparing to another distro and expecting debian to be the same?
Toordog 2017-01-25 12:29:06
Hi, I meant that the repository of puppetlabs desserving the package puppet for debian wheezy is using an expired gpg key. I was wondering if it was something to worry about or if it is normal and ok to ignore.
awal1 2017-01-25 12:29:16
nixb0y, lightdm?
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:29:16
SynrG: no i'm not
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:29:32
nixb0y: so this is something that debian does and it's not working for you?
missmbob 2017-01-25 12:29:46
i've never seen it
awal1 2017-01-25 12:29:56
if yes, edit it's config file
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:30:05
awal1: i'm using gdm.. does it have a guest account?
awal1 2017-01-25 12:30:17
no idea
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:30:26
dm's don't ... have accounts ...
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:30:32
systems have accounts
Iridos 2017-01-25 12:30:48
I wonder if I've ever seen such a guest account on any distro… there seems to be some memory
Toordog 2017-01-25 12:30:51
pub 4096R/4BD6EC30 2010-07-10 [expired: 2017-01-05] ---- uid Puppet Labs Release Key (Puppet Labs Release Key)
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:31:05
Toordog: so, talk to puppetlabs, i guess
missmbob 2017-01-25 12:31:13
Iridos: chromeos. that's close and they have it
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:31:14
maybe they don't care about wheezy?
Iridos 2017-01-25 12:31:20
but then one wonders how that would technically be done
awal1 2017-01-25 12:31:26
SynrG, lightdm have stuff related to guest account in it's config file (but not sure how all that works)
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:31:35
ok ...
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:31:41
i guess the doc would say?
missmbob 2017-01-25 12:31:46
Toordog: we've already talked about you
Toordog 2017-01-25 12:31:46
alright, though the package maintainer could be here as well ;)
Iridos 2017-01-25 12:32:38
missmbob, only I don't think I ever had contact with that… but interesting
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:32:39
debian doesn't use keys to sign repos that are from third parties ...
awal1 2017-01-25 12:32:56
ubuntu (lightdm) have guest account enabled by default; nixb0y may wanted to reproduce that :P
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:32:59
so whether or not someone is coincidentally here that knows about it, it's offtopic for here
Toordog 2017-01-25 12:33:18
ok thx for the info SynrG, i will switch this topic to #puppet
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:33:31
awal1: i want to use debian ;)
missmbob 2017-01-25 12:33:41
Toordog: start there next time please
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:34:08
awal1: I don't like ubuntu because of how buggy it became :p
graps 2017-01-25 12:34:37
awal1: What bugs are you inferring ?
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:34:42
awal1: i'm not sure how to enable the guest session in debian 8 gnome
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:35:02
ah, guest "session" makes more sense than guest account.
graps 2017-01-25 12:35:21
nixb0y: What bugs are you inferring ?
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:35:25
maybe it sets up something that doesn't save any files?
awal1 2017-01-25 12:36:13
nixb0y, I use 'wdm' but I know 'lightdm' have features for guest ·something"; no clue about gdm3; sorry
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:37:04
graps: everything in ubuntu is buggy... you can't do your daily things on it
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:37:11
ditto. i exclusively use lightdm and don't have any gdm3 to consult anymore
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:37:38
SynrG: yes. it's a temporary session, removes everyting once the use logsout or reboot the system
graps 2017-01-25 12:37:40
nixb0y: Oh. I was concerned with using it as a web server, for light traffic web hosting
graps 2017-01-25 12:38:42
nixb0y: So far, my Debian web server is great. No lag, good uptime and all
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:39:25
graps: it's up to you if you want to try it.. but my advice use debian or centos
Iridos 2017-01-25 12:39:28
seems the guest account is a lightdm feature… and it runs some arbitrary script to set that guest account up
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:40:01
an adduser, and then on logout a deluser and erase all the files?
nixb0y 2017-01-25 12:40:40
SynrG: yes, and the home folder lives on /tmp
missmbob 2017-01-25 12:41:21
that sounds pretty stupid
Iridos 2017-01-25 12:42:11
I don't think the script to set up such an account is in debian… at least, I don't see anything
SynrG 2017-01-25 12:43:03
i don't think it's stupid. but it does imply a certain amount of trust towards people with access to your system.
