hm, so mpv have no dependencies on mplyer at all; it works great via cli for both audio/video & local files/online stuff. I thought it was just another front-end for mplayer :P
missmbob 2017-01-25 13:57:16
tsk tsk
missmbob 2017-01-25 13:57:24
i backported it for jessie if you want :P
awal1 2017-01-25 13:57:44

missmbob 2017-01-25 13:57:50

awal1 2017-01-25 13:58:27
I have it in my sid machine yet, which is what I run for daily use. but thanks :P
awal1 2017-01-25 14:00:48
mpv has a nice/basic gui also (gnome-mpv)
zykotick9 2017-01-25 14:01:58
missmbob: imo, the beauty of mpv is no gui... ymmv ;)
missmbob 2017-01-25 14:02:10
i didnt even realize that existed. didnt even install the deb for gnome-mpv
wondiws 2017-01-25 14:14:22

HumanAI, apt already can do 2 or 3 protocols, it's kinda a plugin thing... if you want, you can look into adding torrent... some of the cd images were distributed using torrent, so I dunno, but maybe it could be a good thing. one thing, it could take a lot of work

How do I override pin priority for packages from specific external repository from source.list.d ?
zykotick9 2017-01-25 14:29:08

exactly, ymmv -and- after you get the plugins working, getting the archive setup for it will also take some work

I tried something like 'Pin: origin "www.deb-multimedia.org"', but it seems to affect packages outside deb-multimedia as well.

i dont know if that's an example or what you're actually thinking of doing but that sounds terrible

is there anything in debian that will allow me to play last.fm (through browser or a standalone client) safely? it seems to want me to sign up with spotify, which breaks and says "installing". i don't understand any of this. i do not want to download a spotify client if it is not part of debian and thus trustable. is there a debian solution? if not, can i virtualize?
_Vi 2017-01-25 14:39:03
I want deb-multimedia to be available, but not be a target of auto-upgrades. It has versions of the form "10:some_obsolete_version".

Check this worked with «apt-cache policy» or «apt-cache policy $package». Ask me about . If you also use backports, you should pin them higher than dmm.

TomTomTosch, The output was OK. The problem was afterwards with command like "apt-get install libsmth -t jessie-backports". It refused. I removed the pin and it worked.

deb-multimedia is useful including because of one can install license-shady things from it easily.
