Hi all, I know it's against the rules to place a question on stackexchange and here, but is there any way to get an answer for my preseed related question? I've put it on SE Unix right now, but we're 2 days later now and no response since.
somiaj 2017-01-25 20:10:46
MarcoNL: not many here are that knowledgable on preseeds, you can ask here, but not sure if you'll get a response
MarcoNL 2017-01-25 20:14:39
somia: is there a right place for preseed questions then?
n4dir 2017-01-25 20:15:50
perhaps a mailing list, the question would be which one
MarcoNL 2017-01-25 20:17:12
I've been searching for 2 weeks now to get an answer to my problem
Xz 2017-01-25 20:27:16
hi there, I'm in need of USB persistent-live distribution booting in secure mode
missmbob 2017-01-25 20:27:29
debian is not it
somiaj 2017-01-25 20:27:30
secure mode?
Xz 2017-01-25 20:27:31
I know debian doesn't support that yet out of the box
Xz 2017-01-25 20:27:36
UEFI secure boot
Xz 2017-01-25 20:27:38
but
somiaj 2017-01-25 20:27:47
yea you won't get that with debian.
Xz 2017-01-25 20:28:00
Ubuntu works on my laptop (employer owned with bitlocker on SSD)
missmbob 2017-01-25 20:28:07
debian is not ubuntu
Xz 2017-01-25 20:28:25
now, what about I just swap UBUNTU filesystem with Debian one?
Xz 2017-01-25 20:28:50
if I can get Ubuntu all the way to grub and past that, I can as well tinker with that and get that grub to kick-off debian, right?
ZtolenClothez 2017-01-25 20:29:39
I'm having an odd problem after upgrading to stretch. I have a couple of luks partitions, when they are enabled the system refuses to boot, the luks password prompt at boot never comes up. I found that setting the kernel parameter 'single' allows it to appear and boot as normal after the process. I also notice the plymouth theme can't be changed. I tried changing it repeatedly, running update-initramfs, it doesn't change.
Xz 2017-01-25 20:31:43
so what do you think about mixing UBUNTU bootloader with debian?
Xz 2017-01-25 20:31:47
for my system?
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:31:56
upgrading to stretch?
Xz 2017-01-25 20:32:02
my laptop is owned by employer and it has UEFI secure boot + SSD that I don't want to mess with
somiaj 2017-01-25 20:32:19
Xz: we don't really support mixing. You are welcome to play around. Can you not disable secure boot? Many laptops allow that.
ZtolenClothez 2017-01-25 20:32:57
Vizva, if you mean me, yes
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:33:26
you should go back to your backup, to jessie then copy the system and upgrade this testsystem to stretch again
somiaj 2017-01-25 20:33:29
Xz: also debian live images do not support efi, so if you are after a live system, I'd stick with ubuntu.
ZtolenClothez 2017-01-25 20:33:55
Vizva, what would prevent the same thing from happening?
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:34:06
its testing
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:34:14
you test it to nowhere?
ZtolenClothez 2017-01-25 20:34:20
what?
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:34:37
if its not work and you upgrade to testing
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:34:45
and the test fails
ZtolenClothez 2017-01-25 20:34:49
it boots, the issue seems to be something installed, which redoing the process would not change
ZtolenClothez 2017-01-25 20:35:03
it boots with the workaround as I said
ZtolenClothez 2017-01-25 20:35:17
it only fails when 'single' is not a kernel parameter, the luks prompt doesn't show up
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:37:31
you can still open this partition with another system?
ZtolenClothez 2017-01-25 20:38:35
yes, and even boot as normal with the workaround
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:39:35
could be a jobsite place
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:41:06
ok
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:41:26
you can give the password without see a password prompt
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:41:43
you did try?
Vizva 2017-01-25 20:42:55
i didsee it happen in vm, password prompt dont show up but can give a password
