Delf 2017-01-24 22:59:38
Is there a way to do a graceful termination for a seat?
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:00:59
Delf, w00t?
Delf 2017-01-24 23:03:25
loginctl kill-session does not seem to signal or wait for processes to do their things and exit
babilen 2017-01-24 23:03:54
Why doesn't it?
Delf 2017-01-24 23:04:31
I don't know? Or maybe it's just Chromium?
klys 2017-01-24 23:05:11
is there a terminate-session you can do instead?
Delf 2017-01-24 23:06:34
Yes, but it has the same effect, at least on Chromium. Don't know about other processes
xcvxcv 2017-01-24 23:07:12
exit
msevwork 2017-01-24 23:09:10
I need to read up what you guys wrote TvL2386 and xmj and tx :D
tx 2017-01-24 23:09:31
why
msevwork 2017-01-24 23:11:04
how much does that HP microserver cost :D
msevwork 2017-01-24 23:11:22
also whats the deal with these zfs snapshots
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:11:38
msevwork, I just bought one for my parents for 189 euro on amazon.de
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:12:35
msevwork, well, they are just snapshots. And what I love about them is that I can do "cd /zpool/volume/.zfs/snapshots" and browse them all
msevwork 2017-01-24 23:13:14
i don't understand what is good about snapshots :D
msevwork 2017-01-24 23:13:21
i don't even know what they are :D
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:13:42
msevwork, well. It's like a photo of your filesystem
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:13:44
frozen in time
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:13:48
it will not change anymore
msevwork 2017-01-24 23:14:04
gotcha
msevwork 2017-01-24 23:14:57
quite cheap that microserver, but I might go an even more cheaper route with a singleboardcomputer etc
msevwork 2017-01-24 23:15:01
arm :)
msevwork 2017-01-24 23:15:07
a bit more slow and rudimentary
msevwork 2017-01-24 23:15:17
probably just gonna use rsync and 2 disks
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:15:43
and the cool thing is that my dad is browsing his data from his win10 laptop. I exported /data by samba, and I export /backup/ by samba as well. By creating that symlink he is able to browse his snapshots... so reverting or searching for stuff he can do himself :)
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:16:22
msevwork, raspberry pi?
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:16:58
with backups, it's the property you don't implement that will end up losing all your data for you. :p (i.e. if you don't have multi-generational backups, you'll lose data because it's overwritten by later data ... or if you don't have off-site backups, you'll lose your data because your server room goes up in smoke ;) )
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:17:27
i.e. "just gonna use rsync and 2 disks" sounds good in theory, but is really not much protection
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:17:35
Hi everyone, is there a way to hide specific Section
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:17:55
Hi everyone, is there a way to hide specific Sections in apt search results by default?
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:18:06
(hit enter by accident up there)
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:18:37
yeah, that's why I do a local backup and send it remote immediately after... About 15 years ago the computer room in my dads house did go up in smoke and we did loose everything
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:19:06
trevorj: could possibly be done with aptitude's selectors, which are quite powerful. make a wrapper script that specifies the default filters you want.
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:19:33
s/selectors/patterns/ i guess they're called
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:22:30
trevorj: e.g. !~ssectionname and build up a query combining more than one if you like
Digital 2017-01-24 23:33:03
heya
Digital 2017-01-24 23:33:56
i freshly installed debian, and it lacks fsck, which should be installed since the disks are checked during boot
ws2k3 2017-01-24 23:34:53
Digital apt-get install fsck?
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:35:11
i doubt it
ws2k3 2017-01-24 23:35:28
Digital sorry apt-get install e2fsprogs
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:35:30
Digital: check your PATH?
Digital 2017-01-24 23:36:07
since it is a fresh install i'd expect it to be installed already
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:36:48
Digital: /sbin is not in your PATH unless you're root
kilil 2017-01-24 23:36:50
hi
Digital 2017-01-24 23:37:05
i know how to install stuff :p
kilil 2017-01-24 23:37:15
is there any body to help??
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:37:29
kilil no asking for help, just ask
Digital 2017-01-24 23:37:36
the thing is, everytime i boot it shows an error message because fsck is not found
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:37:39
:)
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:37:53
Digital: util-linux is 'Priority: required'
petn-randall 2017-01-24 23:37:59
Digital: What release did you install?
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:37:59
SynrG: Yeah, that's what I've been doing
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:38:00
Digital, maybe you have a weird filesystem and the fsck tools are not installed?
kilil 2017-01-24 23:38:03
my problem http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=131343
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:38:05
Digital: you can't *not* have /sbin/fsck unless your system is completely hosed
ws2k3 2017-01-24 23:38:25
i had php installed with apt-get i removed that and compiled php from source now. but if i run php i get bash: /usr/bin/php: No such file or directory. which if i run which php then i get /usr/local/bin/php how do i remove the php -> /usr/bin/php link?
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:38:42
Digital: "an error message" ... be more specific
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:38:58
Digital: perhaps you have an initrd that was built incorrectly?
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:39:00
SynrG: It's just unfortunate that I can't filter apt-cache search and apt search results by default as aptitude is large and in charge of my terminal
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:39:22
ws2k3, maybe you need to start a new terminal because you're looking at outdated hashing or something?
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:39:31
trevorj: i don't know what you mean by 'large and in charge of your terminal'. aptitude can be used at the commandline ...
ws2k3 2017-01-24 23:39:45
TvL2386 lol thx alot ^^
Digital 2017-01-24 23:39:47
i installed gnome-terminal, i3, htop, i don't remember everything
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:39:48
SynrG: lol, just that it's not the quickest
TvL2386 2017-01-24 23:39:53
ws2k3, yw! :)
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:40:07
trevorj: what powers your computer? squirrels?
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:40:15
SynrG: It's great, I use it, it's just not near as fast as apt search
kilil 2017-01-24 23:40:30
:( any idea?
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:40:33
Do a time of searches of both ;)
Digital 2017-01-24 23:40:38
fssck is installed, 'sudo fsck' works
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:40:51
SynrG: mostly
Digital 2017-01-24 23:41:07
I'm gonna reboot and make a pic
Digital 2017-01-24 23:41:07
b
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:41:11
SynrG: But they're badass squirrels
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:41:16
trevorj: :)
petn-randall 2017-01-24 23:41:22
Digital: Please show us the complete error message and the surrounding lines. You can probably find the logs in /var/log/ somewhere.
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:42:17
SynrG: I really just want to filter universe/science because while it's amazing and great those packages are not something I'll ever likely install
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:42:43
trevorj: it is possible to use grep-dctrl to filter stuff ...
SynrG 2017-01-24 23:42:54
trevorj: maybe study this and figure out a select that works for you
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:43:43
SynrG: I think I'm just going to cron listing all of them, and |egrep -B2 -v'ing the output
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:43:51
lol
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:43:55
It just feels dirty
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:44:43
SynrG: Because in a perfect world, search would suggest things based upon what I've already installed
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:45:00
SynrG: Prioritized I mean
petn-randall 2017-01-24 23:45:08
trevorj: "universe" sounds a lot like Ubuntu to me.
trevorj 2017-01-24 23:45:21
petn-randall: Yep. I use both.
