malacozoan 2017-01-31 21:47:18
Just update your /etc/apt/sources.list
brutser 2017-01-31 21:49:11

dgriffi 2017-01-31 21:50:20
does anyone here understand making writable installer thumb drives?
Almtesh 2017-01-31 21:52:51
dgriffi, what do you want to do?
dgriffi 2017-01-31 21:53:41
Almtesh: the instructions at http://hyper.to/blog/link/debian-installer-on-a-usb-key/ no longer work for me.
no_gravity 2017-01-31 21:55:10
Hello! Do you guys do screen with multiple linux users? If so, how?
Almtesh 2017-01-31 21:55:12
dgriffi, you should try to dd the debian installer cd image.
dgriffi 2017-01-31 21:55:42
Almtesh: doing that yields a write-only thumb drive. I need to have the resulting thumb drive WRITABLE.
dgriffi 2017-01-31 21:55:50
sorry.,..
Almtesh 2017-01-31 21:55:52
no_gravity, you want to have multiple users on the same screen?
dgriffi 2017-01-31 21:55:57
Almtesh: doing that yields a read-only thumb drive. I need to have the resulting thumb drive WRITABLE.
no_gravity 2017-01-31 21:56:02
Almtesh: Yup
Almtesh 2017-01-31 21:56:18
dgriffi, try to install debian on the key.
dgriffi 2017-01-31 21:56:39
Almtesh: explain..
no_gravity 2017-01-31 21:57:00
Almtesh: It works when all users log in as the same user and join via "screen -x". But how to do it when everybody logs in with his own account?
Almtesh 2017-01-31 21:58:34
no_gravity, oh, that, I did this somewhere once.
Almtesh 2017-01-31 21:59:02
dgriffi, you launch the installer and you install on the USB key instead of the hard drive.
Almtesh 2017-01-31 21:59:24
dgriffi, to be sure, you can temporary remove your hard drive from your computer.
dgriffi 2017-01-31 21:59:33
Almtesh: this seems awfully complicated for what I'm trying to accomplish
c0de254 2017-01-31 21:59:43
hi..kindf late about the topic?
Almtesh 2017-01-31 21:59:43
no_gravity, yo have several way to do this.
dgriffi 2017-01-31 21:59:51
Almtesh: my question is why the howto doesn't work anymore
Almtesh 2017-01-31 21:59:59
no_gravity, don't expect this to be standard.
no_gravity 2017-01-31 22:00:32
Almtesh: Got it workin! The screen initiator has to do ":multiuser on" and ":add acl otheruser" and the other user has to do "screen -x initialuser/".
c0de254 2017-01-31 22:02:41
thanks Chanserv
Almtesh 2017-01-31 22:03:40
no_gravity, really? Thanks.
Almtesh 2017-01-31 22:03:57
dgriffi, good question.
dgriffi 2017-01-31 22:05:43
Almtesh: so, do you have any idea?
Almtesh 2017-01-31 22:07:46
dgriffi, for me, the howto can not work.
Almtesh 2017-01-31 22:07:54
dgriffi, something misses.
no_gravity 2017-01-31 22:08:24
Almtesh: Yup, it works.
dgriffi 2017-01-31 22:08:33
Almtesh: why doesn't it work for you?
Almtesh 2017-01-31 22:09:12
dgriffi, you create a partition and you write the mbr just after.
Almtesh 2017-01-31 22:09:38
dgriffi, there's no system installation, just the kernel.
dgriffi 2017-01-31 22:11:08
Almtesh: what is missing?
Almtesh 2017-01-31 22:13:02
dgriffi, system installation.
dgriffi 2017-01-31 22:13:21
Almtesh: okay...
dgriffi 2017-01-31 22:19:19
Almtesh: how would I go about that? Previously I would add initrd.gz and vmlinux, dismount, then run "syslinux /dev/sdb1" and that would do the job
dgriffi 2017-01-31 22:20:14
I have two flash drives set up according to the howto. One is an old one for installing Wheezy. The other I prepared an hour ago to install Jessie.
dgriffi 2017-01-31 22:20:54
they contain the exact same files, though the latter's files are updated for Jessie
dgriffi 2017-01-31 22:21:15
the one installing Wheezy works, but the one for Jessie will not.
