xtuh 2017-02-27 11:54:22
hi, what is a right place to put sh script that must run /usr/local/bin/file with params ?
phogg 2017-02-27 11:55:27
xtuh: Anywhere you like. Or, anywhere in PATH. Or, $HOME/bin is traditional.
xtuh 2017-02-27 11:57:05
that program must be available to all users in system, so i want to use some traditional place.
xtuh 2017-02-27 11:57:39
but $HOME/bin can be unavailable to the other users
xtuh 2017-02-27 11:58:21
phogg: any suggestions?
tw 2017-02-27 11:58:47
If it's a systemwide, /usr/local/bin is a nice choice.
memeka 2017-02-27 11:59:03
where does debian stores core files?
xtuh 2017-02-27 11:59:06
Thank you
phogg 2017-02-27 11:59:09
xtuh: You have them already, or as tw says if you need any user to access it /usr/local/bin is fine too,.
tw 2017-02-27 12:02:43
memeka: process cwd. sysctl kernel.core_pattern is an authoritative way to check.
memeka 2017-02-27 12:03:47
tw: i have core_pattern set to "/home/memeka/core.%e.%p"
memeka 2017-02-27 12:03:58
ulimit -c unlimited too
memeka 2017-02-27 12:04:16
but i get no core file
memeka 2017-02-27 12:04:49
tw: i have this strace: http://paste.debian.net/917174/ @ line 926: [pid 18911] --- SIGSEGV {si_signo=SIGSEGV, si_code=SEGV_MAPERR, si_addr=NULL} ---
memeka 2017-02-27 12:05:25
(i am looking at the cause of a child process crash in gnome-shell so i would very much appreciate a core dump :-S)
tw 2017-02-27 12:07:26
Where do you set ulimit -c unlimited?
tw 2017-02-27 12:08:26
login session? Does dbus pick it up?
memeka 2017-02-27 12:14:45
ulimit -a shows unlimited
memeka 2017-02-27 12:14:54
do i need systemd-coredump?
Korak 2017-02-27 12:27:37
Hello, I am currently having bit of an issue with the time on my system. I dual boot Debian and Windows 7. Every time I switch from one to the other the time is off. Anyone know how to fix this?
Korak 2017-02-27 12:29:50
I am thinking that I just need to tell debian that system time is local instead of UTC, just not sure how.
missmbob 2017-02-27 12:30:10
!timezone
dpkg 2017-02-27 12:30:10
A time zone is the standard time (aka local time) in a particular region. To change the timezone on Debian systems, execute "dpkg-reconfigure tzdata". Alternatively: "cp -b /usr/share/zoneinfo/$TZ /etc/localtime". Note that tzselect(1) does not change the timezone. Postfix users: execute "service postfix restart" to update localtime in the chroot.
tw 2017-02-27 12:31:12
memeka: if children of your process-under-debug show core size as unlimited, I'm out of ideas.
dax 2017-02-27 12:33:19
Korak: if systemd is your init system, sudo timedatectl set-local-rtc true
dax 2017-02-27 12:33:23
i forget how to do it in sysvinit
dax 2017-02-27 12:34:07
there's also https://superuser.com/questions/185773/does-windows-7-support-utc-as-bios-time/185780#185780 but windows support for UTC is fairly terrible and I wouldn't really recommend it
Korak 2017-02-27 12:34:23
I just used the "dpkg-reconfigure tzdata" and selected UTC as my time zone, that seems to have corrected it
dax 2017-02-27 12:34:59
i'm not sure that will fix it long-term
dax 2017-02-27 12:35:06
dpkg: utc
dpkg 2017-02-27 12:35:07
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the standard by which the world regulates clocks and time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time). For Debian 7 "Wheezy" and later, set "UTC" or "LOCAL" in /etc/adjtime (man 8 hwclock). For Debian 6.0 "Squeeze", set the UTC option in /etc/default/rcS appropriately (man rcs). For all systems, run «service hwclock.sh restart» to apply changes. See also .
dax 2017-02-27 12:35:26
hrm, i wonder if the adjtime thing is what timedatectl does in the background
PryMar56 2017-02-27 12:35:30
Korak, is your bios set to UTC? thats what I do
Korak 2017-02-27 12:37:00
PryMar56: I'm honestly not sure, I have not gone in there to check, just noticed that if I boot off windows it will auto adjust the clock. Then boot to linux and it will be off, if I adjust it in linux then when booting windows it is off till it auto adjust again.
missmbob 2017-02-27 12:37:40
you should be fine now
Korak 2017-02-27 12:37:41
but just come to linux this time and adjusting my local time to UTC got my clock to the right time for the moment
memeka 2017-02-27 12:38:58
tw: made it work somehow :)
Korak 2017-02-27 12:39:02
would love for the game developers to give linux more love, then I could just toss the windows side and be done with the whole mess
memeka 2017-02-27 12:39:06
tw: ty
missmbob 2017-02-27 12:41:40
Korak: you could use kvm with its new vgpu support
Korak 2017-02-27 12:43:01
missmbob: I have seen some stuff for using qemu that supposed to do very well. Just takes good bit of work to get it all setup
missmbob 2017-02-27 12:43:21
Korak: it makes guest gpu as fast as 95% as the host. yeah it takes some work
memeka 2017-02-27 12:44:03
i found a bug with latest updates on debian
memeka 2017-02-27 12:44:51
gnome on wayland crashes on my system with the error "(EE) failed to read Wayland events: Connection reset by peer" because of libmozjs after update from 24.2.0-3.1 to 24.2.0-5.1
