wtf i've been away from linux since i got hired as a web developper and reading the debian handbook is getting harder to do
jhutchins_wk 2017-02-28 09:56:33
hassoon: Need help with anything in particular?
kieppie 2017-02-28 09:57:26
!ffmpeg
dpkg 2017-02-28 09:57:27
FFmpeg is a complete, cross-platform solution to record, convert and stream audio and video, available in jessie-backports, stretch and sid. The Debian ffmpeg package contains a multimedia player (ffplay), server (ffserver) and encoder (ffmpeg). Use "ffmpeg -formats" to list supported transcoding formats for ffmpeg's -target option. http://ffmpeg.org/ #ffmpeg on irc.freenode.net. See also .
kieppie 2017-02-28 09:58:04
looking @ deb wiki, it states "Be careful, FFmpeg is not available on Debian 8 Jessie"
missmbob 2017-02-28 09:58:19
kieppie: it wasnt on release. that's why it's in jessie-backports
kieppie 2017-02-28 09:58:24
Any idea why this is? I believe this is breaking backwards-compatibility for many apps
kieppie 2017-02-28 09:58:44
looking @ Motion specifically on Raspbian
missmbob 2017-02-28 09:58:51
!raspbian
dpkg 2017-02-28 09:58:51
Raspbian is a distribution made specifically for the . Raspbian is not Debian and it is not supported in #debian. Please use #raspbian on irc.freenode.net for support. http://www.raspbian.org/
greycat 2017-02-28 09:58:55
Why would we care about Raspbian?
greycat 2017-02-28 09:59:14
Why would the presence or absence of a package in Debian jessie affect Raspbian?
kieppie 2017-02-28 09:59:35
simply a massive install-base of the distro? the lead-in for many newcomers to Linux/POSIX?
missmbob 2017-02-28 09:59:58
well it has nothing to do with us. try talking to them
greycat 2017-02-28 10:00:03
Now I have no idea what you're talking about at all.
kieppie 2017-02-28 10:00:43
"Why would we care about Raspbian?"
kieppie 2017-02-28 10:00:43
Bit of a facetious retort, don't you think?
greycat 2017-02-28 10:00:47
Are you asking why ffmpeg is not in RASPBIAN? Then ask the raspbian channel.
webstral 2017-02-28 10:01:31
i'm aware that most of you will laugh, but I really need an advice on choosing the best free alternative for cPanel... msg me in private if you have any advice, thanks
kieppie 2017-02-28 10:02:55
no, I'm asking why ""Be careful, FFmpeg is not available on Debian 8 Jessie"" - specifically the rationalle behind such a move. I'm OK if it's something that makes sense, like proprietary blobs or other copyright issues, as may be the case, but for an upstream repo to simply drop it is a bit O.o
AvatarA 2017-02-28 10:03:03
I don't know if there is a universal best for anything you have to try and see what fits your needs webstral
greycat 2017-02-28 10:03:35
!libav
dpkg 2017-02-28 10:03:36
Libav is a complete, cross-platform solution to record, convert and stream audio and video. Libav is a fork of and replaces it in the Debian 7 Wheezy and 8 Jessie releases. Multithreaded decoding is available since libav 4:0.7~rc1-1 (bug #575600); MP3 encoding support is available since libav 4:0.7.1-2 (bug #587904). http://libav.org/faq.html http://libav.org/ #libav on irc.freenode.net.
missmbob 2017-02-28 10:03:46
which the bot told you to read about
greycat 2017-02-28 10:04:06
I'm betting he didn't ask the bot about it. Instead, he started talking about Raspbian for some reason.

!webmin
dpkg 2017-02-28 10:08:30
Webmin is a lame web-based interface for unsafe system administration for Unix. Check it out at http://webmin.com/ Remember, dondelelcaro *hates* webmin. "i'd rather sit on the floor shoving table knives into live electrical outlets than run webmin on an exposed server." Removed from Debian post-Sarge, see http://bugs.debian.org/343897 . The Debian package from webmin.com is of poor quality. See for alternatives.

r00st3r 2017-02-28 10:13:00
When I run 'aptitude update' I get a warning: W: Failed to fetch ftp://ftp-stud.hs-esslingen.de/debian/dists/jessie/InRelease: W: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. -- Why is this? I have never encountered that before. I have amd64/ i386 multiarch. Nameserver is working. And it is the same with other mirrors. Ideas?
xof1s 2017-02-28 10:20:23
hello. How do you specify ip address which uses application? I have added 30 IPs on my NIC (enp5s0) and want to use one of these IP's for any command. Is that possible? Thanks
greycat 2017-02-28 10:20:59
Daemons that listen on a TCP port can specify which address to listen to, or "0" to listen to all interfaces.
greycat 2017-02-28 10:21:18
Configuring the daemon to listen on a given address is up to the individual daemon.
greycat 2017-02-28 10:21:57
e.g. in sshd_config the config option is ListenAddress
xof1s 2017-02-28 10:22:29
greycat: do you react to me? I want to specify source IP address, e.g. `curl google.com` from ip 115.0.0.1, and then again from ip 115.0.0.2
greycat 2017-02-28 10:23:00
Ask #curl
missmbob 2017-02-28 10:23:19
and you probably shouldn't paste real ip addresses
greycat 2017-02-28 10:23:33
I was about 80% sure you were doing some client-side hacker shit instead of normal white-hat server configs, but I had to give the benefit of the doubt.
xof1s 2017-02-28 10:24:03
this is not about curl, it's general question how to do that. I want to use another program/script.
greycat 2017-02-28 10:24:08
*plonk*
xof1s 2017-02-28 10:24:25
missmbob: these addresses are fake. But on my host are real. :]
greycat 2017-02-28 10:24:29
Client-side hacker shit.
greycat 2017-02-28 10:24:33
Go away.
xof1s 2017-02-28 10:25:55
greycat: I don't understand
