Hi, I'm configuring vlans and dhcp on them. Do i need to add 'vlan-raw-device eth0' to /etc/network/interfaces if i have them names eth0.vlanid?

I'm messing around with getting runit working on my Debian Jessie systems. I've followed the directions on the Debian wiki and on the website. I am unable to log in due to checkpassword: wrong password. Any ideas?

hi, on Debian, I set custom max-file-size and max-request-size on /usr/share/tomcat7-admin/manager/WEB-INF/web.xml but everytime tomcat is updated I have to edit the file again. Is there a way to make the change update safe?
petn-randall 2017-02-23 06:25:30
brennino: Only files in /etc/* are considered config files, I'd expect there to be a copy of the file, or at least a way to read files from there.

hi all
winsen 2017-02-23 06:25:38
does anyone know how to update/uprade thunderbird on debian jessie please?
petn-randall 2017-02-23 06:26:12
winsen: apt update && apt upgrade
`Kevin 2017-02-23 06:26:41
pawiecki: that line is if needed if you have ethX.YYY as the device name in interfaces
`Kevin 2017-02-23 06:26:51
pawiecki: is not needed * sorry
winsen 2017-02-23 06:27:14
petn-randall: only that command line?
pawiecki 2017-02-23 06:28:57
`Kevin: just to clarify - does it have to be three characters? Like eth0.071 or can i have eth0.71?
`Kevin 2017-02-23 06:29:02
pawiecki: that is only needed if you have an interface entry such as iface vlan123 inet blah
`Kevin 2017-02-23 06:29:22
pawiecki: use eth0.71
pawiecki 2017-02-23 06:29:30
`Kevin: thanks :)
awal1 2017-02-23 06:29:44
winsen, that will upgrade all pkgs (all available upgrades including thunderbird)
petn-randall 2017-02-23 06:29:59
winsen: You can check the man page for what it does, and then decide for yourself.
awal1 2017-02-23 06:31:01
but only stability/security stuff, no new versions (in stable)
jhutchins_wk 2017-02-23 06:31:33
dpkg: tell winsen about handbook
TomTomTo1 2017-02-23 06:32:03
icedove/thuinderbird gets new versions, even in stable.
greycat 2017-02-23 06:32:27
Software that is a heaping pile of bugs (like web browsers) is treated specially.
jhutchins_wk 2017-02-23 06:32:58
It also doesn't interact with other software, so a new thunderbird or firefox isn't going to break other things.
winsen 2017-02-23 06:33:10
thanks for answering guys. In fact, I am asking you, because last time I upgrade I had some problems with my system..
brennino 2017-02-23 06:33:22
petn-randall, Thanks, I will look for files in etc if something can be used
petn-randall 2017-02-23 06:42:35
winsen: No problem, if you have problems with updating/upgrading ask in here and make sure to provide logs/details.
brennino 2017-02-23 06:42:50
petn-randall, I looked for files in etc but are not about the manager so they can't be used. How to keep manager configuration after a tomcat update?
jhutchins_wk 2017-02-23 06:43:41
brennino: Is this tomcat install managed by dpkg/apt, or is it installed from source?
winsen 2017-02-23 06:43:45
pet-randall: ok I'll try thanks
petn-randall 2017-02-23 06:44:00
winsen: petn
winsen 2017-02-23 06:45:15
pet-randall: I wonder, if we really need to upgrade TB though?
