I have created two partions on a usb drive, 1) FAT 2) EXT. I want to write a linux iso image to the 2) ext partition, and boot from it. The problem is that I have been using rufus to write my iso images and rufus does not see the two partitions. How can I write an iso image to the second partition ?
missmbob 2017-02-27 02:20:02
!rufus
dpkg 2017-02-27 02:20:02
rufus is a tool that can be used to make bootable USB devices under Windows. It is not recommended for use with Debian CD/DVD images, as it mangles the installer in cruel and unusual ways, resulting in hard to debug problems. Ask me about , , .
missmbob 2017-02-27 02:20:07
anyway, you really cant.
missmbob 2017-02-27 02:20:20
you copy the iso to the device, not partition
BluesKaj 2017-02-27 02:21:59
newbie22, best to use one fat32 partition with rufus, it does work tho despite theinfo to the contrary
missmbob 2017-02-27 02:22:52
newbie22: cp foo.iso /dev/sdx if you're on linux or win32diskmanager on windowws
BluesKaj 2017-02-27 02:25:37
too bad dd doesn't work in windows..
missmbob 2017-02-27 02:28:48
heh. i said manager. imager* too damn early
BluesKaj 2017-02-27 02:30:29
missmbob, I used rufus to create a bootable debian-jessie image on W7 without any problem
missmbob 2017-02-27 02:30:41
BluesKaj: good on you. no one is saying it shits all the time. just often enough
missmbob 2017-02-27 02:30:57
BluesKaj: why use it when there are tools known to work 100%?
BluesKaj 2017-02-27 02:31:01
yeah like unetbootin

I have configured an OpenVPN, which works perfectly fine when I enter "sudo openvpn --config /etc/openvpn/client.conf".
TestPS123 2017-02-27 02:43:59
However, when I boot up, it does not work. I cannot access the internet

I have to enter "sudo killall openvpn" and then the aforementioned command in order for it to work
TestPS123 2017-02-27 02:45:25
Can you tell me how to fix that?
themill 2017-02-27 02:48:06
argonius: #packaging on irc.oftc.net would be a better place to ask (I assume this is for a package not destined for Debian -- in which case, you can just ignore things you don't like)
BluesKaj 2017-02-27 02:50:49

The only thing that does not work is the Autostart
bezaban 2017-02-27 02:57:10
it's possibly not running as root and having problems setting the routes
TestPS123 2017-02-27 02:57:10
I thought OpenVPN gets started automatically when booting up? Shouldn't it do so as a root then?
bezaban 2017-02-27 02:57:10
but we'd need more information than 'not working. Eg. how is it started, from where and what is the state of the system.
TestPS123 2017-02-27 02:57:15
I red on debian.org that, once an VPN is configured, it will start automatically when booting up
bezaban 2017-02-27 02:57:40
I don't usually run VPNs at boot myself, but when I need to connect to different networks. It should go through the configs in a folder and bring them up. Is it trying to do this?
BluesKaj 2017-02-27 02:57:57
TestPS123, no it doesn't unless you have iot configured in autostart
TestPS123 2017-02-27 02:58:07
How do I do that?
bezaban 2017-02-27 02:58:25
where on debian.org? What steps have you done. What does 'no internet on boot' mean, config files, network info etc. You're being very vague
TestPS123 2017-02-27 02:58:51
When it doesn't autostart, why can't I access the Internet at start until I enter "sudo killall openvpn"?

* Activate mod_reqtimeout in new installs and during updates from before 2.4.10-10+deb8u8. It was wrongly not activated in new installs since jessie. This made the default installation vulnerable to some DoS attacks.

Did anyone updated from jessie to the new frozen stable (not released yet)
n4dir 2017-02-27 05:14:26
one way to solve that problem is to boot a liveCD (stick, etc), do chroot and run passwd as root
n4dir 2017-02-27 05:14:28
!chroot
dpkg 2017-02-27 05:14:28
To chroot into your Debian system boot to your Debian install disk/live CD, switch to the other console (Alt-F2). Mount your root filesystem with "mount -t ext2 /dev/whatever /target" and make /dev, /proc and /sys usable with "mount --bind /dev /target/dev ; mount -t proc none /target/proc ; mount -t sysfs none /target/sys". You can then chroot into the system with "chroot /target".

well by cheat a little, I'll learn how to do it, but in the meantime do it with QEMU.

Hello
Della 2017-02-27 07:16:22
I have an issue when running "sudo apt-get update"
mtn 2017-02-27 07:16:23
!ask
dpkg 2017-02-27 07:16:23
If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on debian-user@lists.debian.org. See .

I have 2 video cards, one Intel onboard and other external NVidia, install the NVidia drivers and all works fine, but when start a TTY, change the display to show, I mean I have only a display connected to NVidia, to see the TTYs have to unplug the display and connect to onboard port.
