AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:11:57
hello! i am running debian on ARM. I have installed ntp, it is running and the device has internet access
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:12:15
still it says that it's jan 1st 1970
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:12:48
how can i debug this?
loader 2017-02-27 22:13:12
AndreeeCZ: "I have installed ntp, it is running" that sounds like ntp server, not client to me
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:13:30
oh?
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:13:41
https://wiki.debian.org/NTP
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:13:57
'whis will kep your system date .. actual.. "
loader 2017-02-27 22:14:32
what is the output of ntpq -p ?
jelly 2017-02-27 22:14:57
AndreeeCZ: you will need to set the time first before ntp service takes over
jelly 2017-02-27 22:15:28
AndreeeCZ: or use -g parameter
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:16:00
ntpq -p gives me what looks like a valid value
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:16:29
jelly, why is that necessary?
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:17:00
i mean, what would be the point of that
jelly 2017-02-27 22:17:12
ntpd won't step the time if it's too far from network time
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:17:32
i see
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:17:35
can i force-sync?
jelly 2017-02-27 22:17:41
that's what -g is for.
jelly 2017-02-27 22:18:19
AndreeeCZ: which debian release is this? Do you have anything in /etc/default/ntp ?
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:18:25
ntpq -g gives me 'illegal option --g '
jelly 2017-02-27 22:18:39
that's an option for ntpd, not ntpq
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:20:29
i did ntpd -g and waited until a minute change and it didnt sync
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:20:32
stil 1970
jelly 2017-02-27 22:20:38
AndreeeCZ: which debian release is this? Do you have anything in /etc/default/ntp ?
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:20:46
jessie
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:21:07
cat /etc/default/ntp : NTPD_OPTS='-g'
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:21:48
ok i have found a solution
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:22:01
i had to stop the daemon first
AndreeeCZ 2017-02-27 22:22:46
jelly, thanks for you help
jelly 2017-02-27 23:01:47
AndreeeCZ: so you already have -g in there, that means ntpd should have stepped the clock at boot time
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:07:44
Hi All, i cant find much on the net regarding this issue so I will ask here: Last week I upgraded my system and rebooted. Since then I cannot mount cifs.
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:08:05
My system: /etc/debian_version 7.11
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:08:07
uname â€"a : Linux Server_Name 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.68-1+deb7u2 x86_64 GNU/Linux
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:08:37
The error when mounting: mount error: cifs filesystem not supported by the system
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:08:39
mount error(19): No such device
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:09:01
I have removed and purged samba & cifs-utils, then reinstalled rebooting after each step, problem still persists.
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:09:23
Can anybody suggest anything else? I don’t want to rebuild the server (seems to be the only sure fix) as it has a large history of backups on it and incorporates RAID5 and LVMs . . . terabytes of data.
Shadow_7 2017-02-27 23:11:11
ausinch: do you have the cifs kernel module? /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/fs/cifs.ko
Shadow_7 2017-02-27 23:11:35
../fs/cifs/cifs.ko .. uhg
jelly 2017-02-27 23:11:42
ausinch: 3.2.68-1+deb7u2 is a rather old kernel. Is this a VPS/VM of some sort?
jelly 2017-02-27 23:12:06
3.2.84-2 is current
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:19:00
lsmod |grep cifs returns nothing - BINGO
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:21:50
Shadow_7: I see cifs.ko with ls /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/fs/cifs/
Shadow_7 2017-02-27 23:21:51
I ran into fs hell long ago when I made a custom ... make localmodconfig ... kernel. Any filesystem that wasn't actively mounted had it's driver build option removed.
Shadow_7 2017-02-27 23:22:31
ausinch: it should load when you "mount" it. But sometimes the system gets dumb. depmod -a or other catywompus.
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:23:09
The mounts were present during the upgrade - no special kernel build
matteyeux 2017-02-27 23:25:41
Hi there I'm looking for an arg for xfce-terminal to run a new term with a *what ever* command in this new term whithout killing the main term
matteyeux 2017-02-27 23:25:52
anyone can help ?
jelly 2017-02-27 23:26:51
ausinch: which version of linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64 package is installed?
matteyeux 2017-02-27 23:27:24
Does it matter ?
Shadow_7 2017-02-27 23:27:38
ausinch: try modprobe cifs, then try mount ... just a guess though ... also note that --purge removes config files that may not come back when you install again.
jelly 2017-02-27 23:27:44
ausinch: in fact, pastebin the output of "apt-cache policy linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64" and "apt-cache policy"
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:28:36
Shadow_7: ~# modprobe cifs
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:28:38
ERROR: could not insert 'cifs': Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
Shadow_7 2017-02-27 23:29:31
ausinch: any more detail on that in dmesg or /var/log/syslog ... etc
Donquixote 2017-02-27 23:29:37
My JavaScript is disabled now in Chromium. How can I watch Videos on YouTube and other video Platforms?
matteyeux 2017-02-27 23:29:38
like dmesg | grep cifs
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:29:55
jelly: linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64: Installed: 3.2.84-2 Candidate: 3.2.84-2
Shadow_7 2017-02-27 23:30:14
ausinch: but looks a bit like a depmod -a type quirk. Or the module just doesn't match the kernel.
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:31:01
matteyeux: dmesg | grep cifs cifs: Unknown symbol setattr_prepare (err 0)
jelly 2017-02-27 23:31:07
ausinch: you booted some old kernel, not 3.2.84-2, or never rebooted after upgrade. Reboot.
jelly 2017-02-27 23:31:47
Shadow_7: the module from currently installed version does not match old booted kernel, that's right
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:31:57
jelly: after the upgrade i had to power down for building power maintenance
jelly 2017-02-27 23:32:14
ausinch: then you managed to boot the old kernel anyway somehow.
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:33:29
jelly Shadow_7: ok - this thing is headless. I do have a console on it now and will monitor the choices as it boots.
jelly 2017-02-27 23:33:33
ausinch: perhaps you have multiple /boot directories, one on a separate partition one not
jelly 2017-02-27 23:34:06
in any case, it managed to boot the old kernel which shouldn't exist at all from someplace
Shadow_7 2017-02-27 23:34:11
or /boot/ is it's own partition and wasn't mounted when you upgraded
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:35:18
i recall years ago I made copies of boot for redundancy - i think it is now booting off one of those
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:35:46
/dev/sdc1 184M 26M 149M 15% /boot - i believe it should be sda1
jelly 2017-02-27 23:36:34
you can put them all in a md raid1 to keep in sync
ausinch 2017-02-27 23:38:59
jelly Shadow_7: great detective work guys (two thumbs up)
