Can I use nestat to see the ping from a different user?
greycat 2017-02-24 07:48:54
ping does not create TCP or UDP sessions
greycat 2017-02-24 07:49:13
(hell, even UDP doesn't even create a sessioN)
Xorin_5s5 2017-02-24 07:49:25
I saw a raw protocol
greycat 2017-02-24 07:49:25
though to be honest, I am not entirely sure what you mean by "the ping"
Xorin_5s5 2017-02-24 07:49:52
the ping command
greycat 2017-02-24 07:50:04
It sends an ICMP packet. There's no trackable state.
greycat 2017-02-24 07:50:19
What are you trying to do?
bezaban 2017-02-24 07:52:26
you can see incoming icmp with a packet sniffer
Xorin_5s5 2017-02-24 07:53:10
I realised that someone logged in on a different tty and left the ping command running cause he didn't knew how to stop it. I could see its process with who but I was curious why in nestat I can't see it
bezaban 2017-02-24 07:53:11
assuming you have something like that available on the device it hits
bezaban 2017-02-24 07:53:37
oh right. misunderstanding again. disregard
greycat 2017-02-24 07:54:05
Because ICMP packages are instantaneous blips, not keeping a "session" open that netstat can reprot.
greycat 2017-02-24 07:54:28
Bah. Packets. report.
Xorin_5s5 2017-02-24 07:55:28
Damn. Thanks a lot anyway
teraflops 2017-02-24 07:55:51
Xorin_5s5: use e.g tcpdump
teraflops 2017-02-24 07:59:22
oh I missread it too :S
transhuman_ 2017-02-24 08:07:20
thanks jhutchins_wk, I have one and debian works I just seem to be missing a small piece of the puzzle
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 08:40:36
heya
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 08:41:27
I must have compiled and installed a version of taglib to /usr/local at some point, now it is used instead of the one in the deb, which by now is newer
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 08:41:34
how do I get it out cleanly?
greycat 2017-02-24 08:41:49
If you didn't use anything like stow, just rm it.
somiaj 2017-02-24 08:42:11
Dexter_F: if you have the source you may be able to 'make install' from the source tree, or as greycat suggests
somiaj 2017-02-24 08:42:20
arg make uninstall
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 08:42:58
can't find the src, must have rm'ed it assuming not needed anymore.
somiaj 2017-02-24 08:43:40
note you may have to rm stuff from /usr/local/bin, /usr/local/lib and /usr/local/share
somiaj 2017-02-24 08:43:58
Dexter_F: not all sources have an uninstall make target, so it may have not worked anyways.
