Wife has a new HP laptop with W10 on it. I think she was using W7 at work. Yesterday she abandoned it in frustration and used her XFCE desktop so she could get things done.
zuiss1 2017-02-23 08:49:15
i've installed debian alongside w10 on efi. it went pretty smooth
zuiss1 2017-02-23 08:49:22
i was impressed
eri451 2017-02-23 08:52:41
zuiss1: with grub2?
Achylles 2017-02-23 08:54:07
join /#elinks
zuiss1 2017-02-23 08:54:59
eri451: whatever is in the debian install image, yea
zuiss1 2017-02-23 08:55:44
i booted into windows, shrunk the C drive to make some free space, then booted into the debian netinstall and selected it
jhutchins_wk 2017-02-23 09:01:00
zuiss1: Thanks for the reassurance.
jhutchins_wk 2017-02-23 09:01:17
I'm not really anticipating any trouble or anything I can't handle, but I just haven't done it before,
jhutchins_wk 2017-02-23 09:01:44
I installed CentOS on a bunch of Mac Mini's about eight years ago.
frosite 2017-02-23 09:16:30
while backport ffmpeg from sid to debian 8 x64 stable and running: fakeroot debian/rules binary terminal give: https://paste.debian.net/916460/ but the thing is chromaprint is already installed. why does it not find it?
greycat 2017-02-23 09:17:05
,checkbackport ffmpeg
judd 2017-02-23 09:17:12
Backporting package ffmpeg in sid→jessie/amd64: unsatisfiable build dependencies: Build-Depends: libopenmpt-dev.
missmbob 2017-02-23 09:17:15
frosite: why bother? the same version is in jessie-backports
missmbob 2017-02-23 09:18:07
!jessie-backports
dpkg 2017-02-23 09:18:21
Selected packages intended for the Debian 9 "Stretch" release but recompiled for use with "Jessie" (8.x) can be found in the "jessie-backports" repository. Note that jessie-backports are on the regular mirror network, not on backports.debian.org. A suitable line for your sources.list is «deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ jessie-backports main». Also ask me about .
greycat 2017-02-23 09:18:58
Makes me wonder how they got the backport built, if judd thinks it's a no-go.
missmbob 2017-02-23 09:18:59
*shrug*
greycat 2017-02-23 09:19:20
Oh, and the version isn't quite the same. 3.2.2 vs 3.2.4
missmbob 2017-02-23 09:19:45
i missed that. hopefully close enough
jhutchins_wk 2017-02-23 09:20:05
,v ffmpeg
judd 2017-02-23 09:20:06
Package: ffmpeg on amd64 -- wheezy: 6:0.8.17-2; wheezy-security: 6:0.8.20-0+deb7u1; jessie-backports: 7:3.2.2-1~bpo8+1; stretch: 7:3.2.4-1; sid: 7:3.2.4-1; wheezy-multimedia: 8:1.0.10-dmo1; jessie-multimedia: 10:2.6.9-dmo1; sid-multimedia: 10:3.2.4-dmo2
frosite 2017-02-23 09:20:34
greycat: agree sid version is more new i have already check. i need the sid ffmpeg to backport handbrake
missmbob 2017-02-23 09:20:57
frosite: you're sure 3.2.2 isnt enough?
frosite 2017-02-23 09:21:13
i have already try before
missmbob 2017-02-23 09:21:25
good luck then.
skrite 2017-02-23 09:22:33
hey all, thinking about running debian testing with xfce4, love debian, but from my past, nvidia drivers were such a pain, is it any better now?
frosite 2017-02-23 09:22:46
i gave a try to backport handbrake with that version installed from backports repo but it failed
missmbob 2017-02-23 09:23:20
skrite: should be okay with a frozen stretch
frosite 2017-02-23 09:26:15
judd: so i need libopenmpt-dev ? is it that it complain about with ERROR: chromaprint not found message?
missmbob 2017-02-23 09:26:29
frosite: judd is a bot
greycat 2017-02-23 09:26:31
I don't think it can parse that question.
frosite 2017-02-23 09:26:41
ok sorry
frosite 2017-02-23 09:28:26
i would gess fakeroot debian/rules binary use cmake? then as i think cmake does not find the path to chromaprint and it gives that error
greycat 2017-02-23 09:28:49
A debian/rules file is a regular makefile, not that abomination.
frosite 2017-02-23 09:29:49
chromaprint is installed, backported from sid and done it should find it
skrite 2017-02-23 09:34:43
missmbob: frozen stretch?
skrite 2017-02-23 09:34:57
what is the preferred way to install nvidia drivers now?
missmbob 2017-02-23 09:35:33
skrite: stretch is frozen now. https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers
missmbob 2017-02-23 09:36:02
skrite: whatever you do dont get the drivers from their website. follow that wiki
skrite 2017-02-23 09:41:29
missmbob: thanks very much !
