anyone still have a modem and remember how to use it? I need help testing my windows modem on linux
Shadow_7 2017-02-24 16:51:32
I had good luck with lucent modems. But don't have any active PCI machines
Shadow_7 2017-02-24 16:52:15
I was stuck on dial-up until about 2009-ish.
lhx 2017-02-24 16:52:35
lux_: modem? bwahahahah
lhx 2017-02-24 16:52:44
j/k... that's no laughing matter
lux_ 2017-02-24 16:53:07
I am using the horrible zoom usb (SOFT) modem with the 3rd party driver
lux_ 2017-02-24 16:53:16
its a usb dongle
Shadow_7 2017-02-24 17:10:39
Connexant ones sucked. Mostly because linuxant took over the driver and charged for it. And the old free one basically vanished. The free one sucked, but did better than the 14.4k that linuxant gimped the free variant of theirs too.

If i install debian jessie, and enable the Unstable (sid) and Testing repos... Will that make it a rolling release? I still have a bit confusion, As i understand that LMDE 2 which is debian testing, is Semi-rolling.... And siduction which using unstable is full-rolling
themill 2017-02-24 17:32:40
if you can define what you actually mean by rolling then you'd know. 'rolling release' is a meaningless term...
Aberts10 2017-02-24 17:32:48
I want to have the ability to use APT and deb packages, but with as close to complete rolling as i can get, like arch (hopefully where i do not need to reinstall to get the latest security packages or core apps)
themill 2017-02-24 17:33:00
and if you have a mixture of stable, testing and unstable, what you have is a mess.
Aberts10 2017-02-24 17:34:34
Well, Is there any debian distrobution close to what you would get with arch? (No need to reinstall every 6 moths) ... I realize ubuntu allows you to do a dist-upgrade, but it just doesn't really seem meant for it, things go haywire.
themill 2017-02-24 17:34:53
I have no idea what you would get with arch.
squigz 2017-02-24 17:35:22
themill: he doesn't want 'releases'
Aberts10 2017-02-24 17:35:24
You never reinstall... Every package is updated everytime there is a new release .... No point releases for security packages or anything.
squigz 2017-02-24 17:35:33
ARch only has 1 set of packages that are updated constantly
themill 2017-02-24 17:35:40
You never reinstall debian either...
Shadow_7 2017-02-24 17:35:44
Aberts10: sid, probably. But if you can't have libre office break for a month+, probably not for you.
