peterS: ah, yes, dhclient[331]: Can't bind to dhcp address: Cannot assign requested address in systemctl status networking.service
lf94_ 2017-02-28 13:50:16
I have totally destroyed the font system on my debian installation, in an attempt to rid of infinality. How do I fix it?
lf94_ 2017-02-28 13:50:43
I think I still didn't get rid of it
peterS 2017-02-28 13:51:00
rjsalts: I do have to question the documentation page you've got there. Not only do they have an ipv6 'netmask' line that I hadn't seen before, they also say 'pre-up modprobe ipv6' which I have no idea who ever thought that should ever be needed
peterS 2017-02-28 13:51:21
rjsalts: makes me wonder if this is even a tested config. You may indeed have to use post-up instead of pre-up, or similar
rjsalts 2017-02-28 13:52:43
I would think there might be a race between link up and pre-up dhclient when booting
peterS 2017-02-28 13:53:03
yeah, that too
rjsalts 2017-02-28 13:53:42
but I think you do want dhclient running before you assing prefix/netmask in inet6 static
rjsalts 2017-02-28 13:53:50
assign even
peterS 2017-02-28 13:54:36
hmmmm. I would assume the opposite, as I'd assume it's more likely that the static config would notice dhclient already running than the converse
peterS 2017-02-28 13:54:42
anyway, try it both ways I guess
rjsalts 2017-02-28 13:58:03
aha, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1447715 looks like it might be relevant
peterS 2017-02-28 13:58:33
rjsalts: if you're following those instructions and you left in the 'modprobe ipv6', I think debian kernels have had ipv6 built directly into the kernel for a pretty long time now. (So, modprobe ipv6 is not exactly wrong, just pointless.)
rjsalts 2017-02-28 13:58:56
peterS: I didn't bother with the modprobe ipv6
peterS 2017-02-28 13:59:01
heh, good
missmbob 2017-02-28 14:00:49
pre-up sleep 10 really is ugly
peterS 2017-02-28 14:01:46
that, or just 'dad-attempts 0' to disable DAD
rjsalts 2017-02-28 14:01:48
or pre-up echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/eth0/accept_dad
peterS 2017-02-28 14:02:02
(see 'man 5 interfaces', which does document a couple of DAD options)
rjsalts 2017-02-28 14:02:42
dad-attempts 0
peterS 2017-02-28 14:03:01
yeah, see if that makes a difference
Shadow_7 2017-02-28 14:03:04
I just set most of my things to "manual". But my use case is desktops with phyiscal access
peterS 2017-02-28 14:03:30
Shadow_7: it's so you can always RTFM, isn't it
Shadow_7 2017-02-28 14:04:05
Most times I $(service network-manager stop), I have the "stuff" installed, I just don't use it.
Shadow_7 2017-02-28 14:04:26
It's so I do everything full CLI, so whatever I do translates to any distro.
peterS 2017-02-28 14:04:40
yeah, well, I don't have n-m installed at all (:
Shadow_7 2017-02-28 14:04:45
And any stage of the installation process
Shadow_7 2017-02-28 14:05:35
I try not to, but when I try things out I don't uninstall them. So it eventually gets there.
peterS 2017-02-28 14:06:26
I'm so old fashioned I don't even use n-m on my laptop, preferring to 'sudo vi /etc/network/interfaces' to set the wifi network + password when I go somewhere
stoned 2017-02-28 14:06:45
peterS: ditto
Shadow_7 2017-02-28 14:18:28
I mostly run wpa_supplicant in an xterm and dhclient -4 -v wlan0. Plus other stuff since I bridge via ethernet through that machine.
