#debian channel featuring Diogenes_, John__, lizzie, downloading, mcrt, mtn,

linuxfailsagain 2017-02-24 11:11:28
how blacklist that dccp kernel module? (it gives local user unauthorized root apparently)?
mcrt 2017-02-24 11:13:14
linuxfailsagain: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:13:19
put it in blacklist?
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:15:07
linuxfailsagain: you could use windows, of course
linuxfailsagain 2017-02-24 11:16:52
Dexter_F: I do
linuxfailsagain 2017-02-24 11:17:21
Dexter_F: and as for secure OS, there is OpenBSD, or grsecurity
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:18:53
linuxfailsagain: then why bother with linux
linuxfailsagain 2017-02-24 11:19:15
Dexter_F: grsecurity is linux
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:19:39
linuxfailsagain: but isn't it bound to fail
linuxfailsagain 2017-02-24 11:19:40
and some servers have pure debian on it
linuxfailsagain 2017-02-24 11:19:53
Dexter_F: linux yes (as we see each time), grsecurity nope
linuxfailsagain 2017-02-24 11:20:45
as for the blacklisting, I ask since searching web leads to https://wiki.debian.org/KernelModuleBlacklisting
lizzie 2017-02-24 11:21:09
what's wrong with that wiki page?
linuxfailsagain 2017-02-24 11:21:39
which mentions not just doing "blacklist dccp", but also some strange install .. /bin/true . Is that part still needed
lizzie 2017-02-24 11:22:16
no, that's only if you need to blacklist it so hard that it won't be loaded if you manually do "modprobe dccp"
lizzie 2017-02-24 11:22:27
a regular blacklist line in the conf will keep it from loading at boot
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:23:03
I don't know, I'm just working this up to the point where I can point out your nickname is deliberately set to annoy people
lizzie 2017-02-24 11:23:43
I find it easy to not take people like that seriously :P
lizzie 2017-02-24 11:23:52
"linux is so bad, please help me with my linux" yeah ok, I'm soooo offended
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:24:10
lizzie: I want my trolls to have some style.
lizzie 2017-02-24 11:24:33
problem is, people with style keep finding better things to do besides troll :P

How to make my system not detect an extra monitor without unplugging (unplug the extra monitor)?
awal1 2017-02-24 11:26:10
I have several monitors here and tired plugging/unplugging them
lizzie 2017-02-24 11:26:33
awal1: to clarify, do you care if your system doesn't detect the monitor, or is this just about your x server not using it?
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:26:35
awal1: xrandr lets you control state and relative position
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:26:57
I have some scripts here to for example switch off the second head when I game
lizzie 2017-02-24 11:27:46
yeah, scripting with xrandr is probably what you want. technically X will still detect the monitor, but then just not display to it
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:27:57
xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --off <- it will come up with two, tho, if you want that at start, you need to edit xorg.conf, if you have an nvidia card I'd recommend their setup tool (works only with binary drivera fair)
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:28:09
*driver afair
awal1 2017-02-24 11:28:12
lizzie, Dexter_F, I want to make my system detect them and turn them on when needed not durring boot. xrandr ... --off turns off the extra monitors just in X
awal1 2017-02-24 11:28:32
basically I want them plugged but not detected
lizzie 2017-02-24 11:28:35
you haven't specified when they're needed
awal1 2017-02-24 11:28:44
:P
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:28:56
monitor blacklisting. well, what's new.
lizzie 2017-02-24 11:29:15
you also haven't explained what the difference is between what you want, and turning off the monitors just in X
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:29:15
https://xkcd.com/963/
awal1 2017-02-24 11:31:48
I mean detected but not displaying on them since boot
awal1 2017-02-24 11:34:47
something like xrandr ... --off but since boot
Dexter_F 2017-02-24 11:40:16
gotta run, before kittens123/lfa finishes the nmap sweep on me to prove a point ;)
tehmartian 2017-02-24 11:41:28
quit
Diogenes_ 2017-02-24 11:42:02
Good evening.
Diogenes_ 2017-02-24 11:42:50
I just upgraded my system to testing, and Gnome settings has stopped recognizing my touchpad.
Diogenes_ 2017-02-24 11:42:55
Currently it works as a mouse would.
mtn 2017-02-24 11:43:34
Diogenes_, this is not #debian-next, or even the correct server
mtn 2017-02-24 11:44:00
Diogenes_, they just told you the channel name and location
downloading 2017-02-24 11:57:33
When i try to install Debian with a usb I get this error https://ibb.co/ee4W3v
John__ 2017-02-24 11:58:36
did anyone manage to actually get the opensans font in debian on lxde?
John__ 2017-02-24 11:58:43
I installed the https://packages.debian.org/sid/texlive-fonts-extra package but it's not appearing in font selection menus.
John__ 2017-02-24 11:58:58
sorry for repeating myself.
John__ 2017-02-24 11:59:04
just wondering if anyone has a solution.
