hi
Brigo 2017-02-26 11:00:31
ubikite, i am running it without issues. Have you checked the integrity of your system?
petn-randall 2017-02-26 11:01:19
,v dnsmasq

missmbob 2017-02-26 11:02:22
well there's that if you really cant figure it out
Wzup 2017-02-26 11:03:54
Hey. I'm downloading some stuff with the command curl. How do I check the status of them? Can't see if they are finished or not?
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:07:32
with -c like wget? and try to get again
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:09:08
not sure, I just use wget and it has a progress bar
Wzup 2017-02-26 11:09:30
it says requires parameter
Wzup 2017-02-26 11:09:54
I normally do to but wanted to try out curl.
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:09:54
appears to be capital C in curl -C
Wzup 2017-02-26 11:11:06
it stil says I need a parameter. some value?
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:11:27
have it as the last parm? it has an option offset value
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:11:32
the parameter is the url
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:11:42
curl -C http://foo/file
Wzup 2017-02-26 11:13:48
expected a proper numerical parameter it says.
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:14:30
pastebin the full command and output
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:16:28
perhaps it's an implied default to continue
Wzup 2017-02-26 11:17:46
missmbob: https://paste.debian.net/916993/
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:17:46
oh that's continue at
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:17:46
another reason why i never use curl. do you have anything against wget? wget -c https://download.whonix.org/linux/13.0.0.1.4/Whonix-Gateway-13.0.0.1.4.libvirt.xz
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:17:46
also:
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:17:46
otherwise check the file itself. bytes, md5sum, and other things
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:17:46
!whonix
dpkg 2017-02-26 11:17:46
Whonix is a Linux distribution based on Debian, distributed as two virtual machine images. It is not supported in #debian; ask me about . http://whonix.org/ #whonix on irc.oftc.net.
Wzup 2017-02-26 11:19:58
I don't have anything against wget really. It is the same thing as curl when you download a file via https? How do I choose a certain path and certain name for the file I download with wget?
drupi 2017-02-26 11:20:01
hi. I just installed debian minimal successfully. now I wonder how I can establish wifi connection from commandline
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:20:44
drupi: nmtui
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:21:02
Wzup: in wget it's -O for filename/path
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:21:05
drupi: or wpa_password + wpa_supplicant + dhclient
Wzup 2017-02-26 11:22:02
missmbob: ok. ty.
somiaj 2017-02-26 11:22:02
drupi: you can configure wifi networks in /etc/network/interfaces though I prefer to use that with wpasupplicant, or you can use more core methods, or even a cli interface to networkmanager
drupi 2017-02-26 11:22:13
Shadow_7 somiaj ok thank you. will try wpa_supplicant
cusco_ 2017-02-26 11:23:37
hello !
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:23:42
nmtui is kind of nice. Versus missing that 2.4\ ... is part of the ESSID for over an hour.
ubikite 2017-02-26 11:23:46
missmbob, i'm currently in backports version.
cusco_ 2017-02-26 11:24:32
so.. a not supported app, binary totally agains debian's philosophy... and I still ask! App repports its log date time as 1h later than it actually is...
cusco_ 2017-02-26 11:24:51
this happened when I reconfigured tzdata, as the whole system was 1 hour fast
jad2 2017-02-26 11:25:07
hello, is there a debian 9 testing live cd available for download, I can't seem to find it ?
cusco_ 2017-02-26 11:25:08
any hints ?
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:25:10
cusco_: no... me at a conference trying iwconfig and dhclient since it wasn't encrypted
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:25:36
cusco_: nvm previous... dpkg-reconfigure tzdata
cusco_ 2017-02-26 11:25:55
Shadow_7: iwconfig and dhclient should be enough then..
cusco_ 2017-02-26 11:26:02
Shadow_7: I did! its correctly set
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:26:23
cusco_: except when I miss elements of the ESSID. It was a really long essid
drupi 2017-02-26 11:26:47
hmmm. systemd wpa_supplicant service is started. yet when I start wpa_cli I see "could not connect to wpa_supplicant (null) - re-trying"
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:26:55
nmtui gives you a nice ncurses drop down list to select from
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:27:09
jad2 no
drupi 2017-02-26 11:27:21
Shadow_7: nmtui is not installed.
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:27:33
drupi: the package is network-manager
drupi 2017-02-26 11:27:35
Shadow_7: and no other network connection available right now
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:28:08
That's why I like debootstrap... install all that network stuff before you reboot to the install.
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:29:21
drupi: second comp helps a lot with an ethernet to wifi bridge. The newer pi with wifi can be such a thing. Although still need a dongle and cable for client.
drupi 2017-02-26 11:30:02
well. I could also reboot into live debian and chroot I guess
drupi 2017-02-26 11:30:34
still I wonder, wpa_supplicant service is up and running, yet I can't connect with wpa_cli. strange
Derick 2017-02-26 11:31:10
Hi! I am trying to figure out what is going on with the xfce4-volumed package in sid. It's listed at https://packages.debian.org/sid/xfce/xfce4-volumed but it's not found with apt-cache search or apt install. Can anybody offer a clue as to how I can get it installed?
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:31:13
drupi: I tend to manually do those things. kill -9 and wpa_supplicant -Dnl80211,wext -iwlan0 -cwpa.conf && dhclient -4 -v wlan0
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:31:36
although you need a 2nd term for the later part, not &&
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:31:52
Derick: it's there for arm64 only
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:32:10
Derick: also sid support is in #debian-next on oftc
Derick 2017-02-26 11:33:29
Yeah, it shows up for other architectures at https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=xfce4-volumed&searchon=names - and I did not know about #debian-next - I'll go ask there. Thanks!
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:34:18
Derick: not for sid it doesnt. other archs are wheezy and jessie
Derick 2017-02-26 11:34:22
yes, that's what I meant
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:34:25
drupi: although probably need the $(service {service} stop) part these days versus kill -9
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:38:05
cusco_: maybe the app didn't get the memo on D.S.T., or tzdata is off for your region
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:38:43
or some other UTC versus local time quirk
putridp 2017-02-26 11:53:55
Is it possible to edit a source between $apt-get source PACKAGE and ./configure? (i.e. I want to use the distribution's package's source as the basis for an edit.
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:54:54
putridp: yes. but the file you want to edit is probably debian/rules
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:55:56
putridp: ./configure && fakeroot debian/rules binary ... to make a package to install via package management system. plus maybe build-dep stuffs
putridp 2017-02-26 11:56:44
Thank you
missmbob 2017-02-26 11:57:52
Shadow_7: why not just dpkg-buildpackage ?
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:58:40
old habits
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:58:58
plus nice to know build things that might apply to other distros or if ALL you have is sources
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 11:59:11
aka build steps are not always ./configure and make for more and more sources now.
schneider 2017-02-26 12:10:02
hi
schneider 2017-02-26 12:11:08
When I've installed debian 8, by mistake i've partitioned with only 10GB to / and 115 to /home
schneider 2017-02-26 12:11:31
now I have no space left on the system
schneider 2017-02-26 12:11:32
bash: cannot create temp file for here-document: No space left on device
schneider 2017-02-26 12:12:32
can I partition "on the fly" my ssd and to give more memory to the root directory?
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 12:14:09
You could probably shrink /home/ and put some other /xxx/ thing on it's own partition.
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 12:16:03
like girthy /usr/share/doc/
schneider 2017-02-26 12:16:54
my /var/tmp/kdecache-schneider is like 0.8GB in size, can I delete it?
schneider 2017-02-26 12:18:12
or its something related to window manager?
schneider 2017-02-26 12:21:19
or its most like a desktop environment, sorry I'me on debian for a few days and still I'm not familiar with it
missmbob 2017-02-26 12:21:21
schneider: so reinstall if it's a new one. you could've already reinstalled with the time you've been in here
schneider 2017-02-26 12:21:33
missmbob, I'm on it for a few days and it's not new already, there are a lot of configuration stuff I did, I don't want to configure it again
coruja 2017-02-26 12:23:38
take a live iso and change partition sizes to fit your needs (backup of data to be on the safe side)
coruja 2017-02-26 12:25:22
btw wondering how one fills 10 gb with an almost fresh install
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 12:25:51
coruja: install a few games. or a few users that use browsers with cache
missmbob 2017-02-26 12:27:59
i'd hope games to be in ~/
schneider 2017-02-26 12:28:58
that was the default value on install, my bad for not changing it
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 12:28:58
I have 11GB of cache on my install and that's just 1 game
missmbob 2017-02-26 12:28:58
schneider: anyway try this http://gparted.org/livecd.php
coruja 2017-02-26 12:28:58
i see
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 12:28:58
Could also be a lot of -doc packages.
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 12:44:27
coruja: I'm normally 2GB when I have a wm, browser, and the usuals. But get build-essential, devscripts, kernel-package, and you're 4gb easy
Shadow_7 2017-02-26 12:46:08
screen capture for ten minutes and 10gb
