#debian is primarily a support channel for Debian users. Please keep the discussions in #debian on-topic and take longer discussions and non-support questions to #debian-offtopic. Imagine the chaos if each of the hundreds of people in the channel felt the need to wander off topic for a few minutes every day.

taylan: I would ask people to ping and verify the ip address over asking them to connect to some random port, many may not trust that
somiaj 2017-02-02 07:03:49
taylan: or just use dig or other ways to resolve the host

hello everyone. Im trying to setup the nvidia driver on my recently installed debian 8. I used the debian wiki for refference, and installed nvidia-detect, and afterwards installed nvidia-driver as suggested.
dtcrshr 2017-02-02 07:21:57
After reboot, I got just a blinking cursor, so I installed nvidia-xconfig to setup a new xorg conf, but same results
dtcrshr 2017-02-02 07:22:25
Is it possible to use this nvidia-detect or should I download the drivers from nvidia?
ds8g79 2017-02-02 07:36:05
did you run it to create the config?
ds8g79 2017-02-02 07:36:37
dtcrshr: ^
dtcrshr 2017-02-02 07:36:54
yes. It ran and created a copy of xorg.conf
dtcrshr 2017-02-02 07:37:46
I also tried in this meantime installing the .run file downloadable from nvidia site (its the 367.x version) also same results, even after removing all other older drivers and nouveau
dtcrshr 2017-02-02 07:37:58
Im tring now with the jessie backports approack on the wiki
ds8g79 2017-02-02 07:38:07
don't know then :/
ds8g79 2017-02-02 07:38:46
maybe see if xorg log has something in it about it?
ds8g79 2017-02-02 07:43:46
