hello! I have a little question. I have looked on the site. Id like to join debian community helping it. Im not a skilled coder, but Id like to help in my business area: marketing. Would be possible help debian under that view? And if yes, How can I? :)
jscoder 2017-02-03 22:54:17
I have an old version of crossover that worked on a Jessie amd64 box I setup with multiarch but it fails when I run the installer on this i386 machine, it says basically it doesn't support "unknown on Linux / x86" does anyone know what might be failing to report this is an i386 architecture, that works on another box?
jscoder 2017-02-03 22:55:29
it doesn't seem to be uname or lsb_release
jscoder 2017-02-03 22:56:06
and this app wouldn't know to check dpkg-architecture so its not that either
ztealmax 2017-02-03 23:05:36
§yey just created my first debian package :D system-wide computer icon for all users in lxde, sweet :D
ztealmax 2017-02-03 23:06:04
to be honest thought it would be harder :P
ztealmax 2017-02-03 23:06:41
ok helped that i used debreate ;) hehe
jscoder 2017-02-03 23:11:03
ztealmax: using eqivs is by far the easiest way to create a deb package :-P
jscoder 2017-02-03 23:13:08
I see nothing in this strace that tells me whats going on
grumpy 2017-02-03 23:15:21
hi all
grumpy 2017-02-03 23:16:06
is there anyone who can tel me how to open kodi on gnome
ztealmax 2017-02-03 23:16:09
jscoder: thanx ill check it out
irc2000 2017-02-03 23:16:17
not so much to chose from when you download debian? No choice between different editions (desktop, server etc) and different archs and versions? seems to only be 1 choice?
ztealmax 2017-02-03 23:17:21
irc2000: its all in same iso you select at end what you want, xfce/lxde/mate etc or if you want to run as server no desktop etc
grumpy 2017-02-03 23:17:24
irc2000: it mean i have to restart my pc n start on cmd mode to use kodi
irc2000 2017-02-03 23:18:21
so I'm assuming some of you are on debian right now. Is it your desktop? How many GB is your installation taking up (including personal files etc)
grumpy 2017-02-03 23:18:31
can i use kodi on debian's desktop environment
jscoder 2017-02-03 23:19:16
ztealmax: it was a joke, equivs makes dummy packages which are empty solely for the purpose of shutting dpkg up when bitching about dependencies you already satisfied by other means
grumpy 2017-02-03 23:21:46
please help me about kodi on gnome
bazhang 2017-02-03 23:22:33

grumpy 2017-02-03 23:23:41
bazhang: i have tried many ways but its workng only on cmd mode not on gnome environment
judd 2017-02-03 23:23:42
Package: kodi on amd64 -- jessie-backports: 16.1+dfsg1-2~bpo8+1; stretch: 2:17.0~rc2+dfsg1-1; sid: 2:17.0~rc3+dfsg1-2; jessie-multimedia: 5:14.2+repack-dmo1b2; sid-multimedia: 5:17.0-dmo1; sid-multimedia: 5:17.0-dmo3
bazhang 2017-02-03 23:24:20
grumpy, then you need to read that wiki carefully, it's all there
grumpy 2017-02-03 23:24:40
judd i am new to debian please guide me how i can able to turn on kodi on gnome
judd 2017-02-03 23:24:41
No package named 'am' was found in jessie/amd64.
mmm4m5m 2017-02-03 23:30:39
hi. I have just installed debian 8.7.1 on new external hdd. There was question - do you want to install GRUB to MBR. I said "NO'. Then I manually selected to install GRUB on external hdd.
mmm4m5m 2017-02-03 23:30:39
Now when I tell BIOS to boot from the external hdd - GRUB does not load, debian does not start. What wrong I did? How to fix it? Can I use debian installer CD to fix it? (installer could give me access to the console)
ztealmax 2017-02-03 23:32:02
jscoder: ohh lol :P that proves that im kind of new to this hehe
jscoder 2017-02-03 23:33:31
ztealmax: yeah, well rebuilding a package already in debian is also pretty simple.. building a new one is where things get sticky
irc2000 2017-02-03 23:39:56
lol, what iso do I download? one is 4GB and one is 600MB... why would I chose one over the other? Netinstall suffice?
jscoder 2017-02-03 23:40:57
hmm.. damn, uname -p does say "unknown"
bolt 2017-02-03 23:41:17
irc2000: netinstall is sufficient if you have internet access
bolt 2017-02-03 23:41:35
irc2000: the other has more packages available while offline
irc2000 2017-02-03 23:42:25
ok thanks.
irc2000 2017-02-03 23:42:44
I don't know how much space I need though? How much are your debian desktops using?
