Hello, folks! Need a little help. I got Debian 8.7 up and running, not the first time, but this time I ran into this annoying thing, I cannot play audio through my headphone jack output. Went messing around and now it doesn't even start up with the system - I have to modprobe snd-hda-intel. Even then I cannot hear a click out of the headphones. (it works in windows.)
armin 2017-02-02 12:15:56
a65761711: my assumption is that your audio problem is pulseaudio related.
armin 2017-02-02 12:17:05
a65761711: anyways, the very first thing i do on a freshly set up debian machine is renaming /usr/bin/pulseaudio and i do that for almost 10 years now so i won't be of much help
teraflops 2017-02-02 12:17:58
armin: yeah you're not helpful at all
abrotman 2017-02-02 12:20:12
a65761711: do you have a DE installed, like gnome or kde?
demongy 2017-02-02 12:21:56
a65761711, checked alsamixer?
demongy 2017-02-02 12:22:35
I always have that problem with debian, at startup audio doesn't work
spaceman 2017-02-02 12:22:49
hey ppl does anyone know if there's a way to hack the CMI8788 snd_oxygen and get any extended features that might be present on the card?
teraflops 2017-02-02 12:23:40
he said through headphones so I assume audio works fine
teraflops 2017-02-02 12:24:23
unless he has something to clarify. starting by telling us if he is running pseaudio or not
spaceman 2017-02-02 12:26:02
teraflops, im not sure. i think i shut it off on one of my OSs.
teraflops 2017-02-02 12:26:39
not sure about pulseaudio?
teraflops 2017-02-02 12:26:57
pgrep pulseaudio
spaceman 2017-02-02 12:27:27
there is a number
teraflops 2017-02-02 12:27:52
then it's there
spaceman 2017-02-02 12:28:07
cool
teraflops 2017-02-02 12:28:58
spaceman: oh I was asking a65761711
teraflops 2017-02-02 12:29:04
heh
spaceman 2017-02-02 12:29:16
:D
spaceman 2017-02-02 12:30:57
this sound card is badass but i wonder if i can get into any of the other features of the card that the windows drivers has.
ghormoon 2017-02-02 12:33:00
hi, any idea why might some sysctl properties be wrong after boot, but sysctl -p fixes that? without having to edit the config?
