is there a way to disable caching when writing to a usb stick? i'm using "pv" to write disk images, and i'd like the progress bar to be somewhat accurate. currently, with a slow stick, it runs at several rundred MiB/s for a while, fills up some cache or another, then exits and hangs for several minutes waiting for disk sync

bolt: I think you can mount disks with an autosync option that forces them to sync every write
