hi
DexterF 2017-03-07 03:12:37
say I want to clone a machine 100 times and all of them are supposed to have individual hostnames and ssh keys. now I could mount the image, modify it etc but I guess that dragon has been slain before?
DexterF 2017-03-07 03:13:00
is there a mass deployment solution?
puzzlingWeirdo 2017-03-07 03:18:37
configuration manager? saltstack
puzzlingWeirdo 2017-03-07 03:18:37
#salt
puzzlingWeirdo 2017-03-07 03:18:37
DexterF:
puzzlingWeirdo 2017-03-07 03:19:20
it's configured in python - so if you know that..
tw 2017-03-07 03:19:21
DexterF: if you aren't already using a cfg management package (and you should be), remove the ssh host keys from the image and they'll get automatically regenerated. The easiest way to get the hostname depends on your existing infrastructure, whether it be latching on to the hostname DHCP hands out, DNS PTR lookup on the IP, polling/registering with LDAP/AD, etc.
Iridos 2017-03-07 03:20:58
there was a tool in debian to help you work on multiple nodes at the same time… it opened a terminal for each of the nodes and would duplicate your typing input on all of them
Iridos 2017-03-07 03:21:03
and I forgot what it was called
tw 2017-03-07 03:21:10
pssh is one of them
Iridos 2017-03-07 03:21:39
this one opened terminals… which I disregarded at the time, because it doesn't scale to 500 node4s
Iridos 2017-03-07 03:22:31
hm, maybe that's it
saiju 2017-03-07 03:23:22
Hi All, my Debian 8 root partition / was occupying 98% space . I did apt-get clean and restated apache as some log files got deleted while apache was running. Now i have 62% space. /proc filesystem is still taking space , Please advice how to fix this?
ychaouche 2017-03-07 03:23:39
hey #debian
Iridos 2017-03-07 03:23:42
no, I'm already using pssh regularly… that's something else
ychaouche 2017-03-07 03:24:00
Anyone familiar with missing postfix logs ?
Iridos 2017-03-07 03:24:08
saiju, /proc isnt't taking up space, it's virtual
ychaouche 2017-03-07 03:24:18
some of the postfix logs are absent from syslog and mail.log
missmbob 2017-03-07 03:24:21
saiju: you probably have a large /var/log
ychaouche 2017-03-07 03:25:06
they belong to qmgr and smtpd. I was running them chrooted, unchrooted them, restarted postfix and rsyslog, but still nothing from them in the logs.

saiju 2017-03-07 03:30:23
missmbob Iridos : /var/log is taking 4.2MB only. These are the services which are running https://ctrlv.it/id/17950/2818816902 . I have restarted apache, nginix, dbus-daemon. Can you suggest how to find out which process is consuming /proc partition?
Iridos 2017-03-07 03:31:33
I already told you that /proc is purely virtual. forget about it
Iridos 2017-03-07 03:31:43
(or read up on it, what it is)
Iridos 2017-03-07 03:32:26
run "man proc" and read on it
saiju 2017-03-07 03:33:11
Iridos: Yeah , correct. How can i check which process is consuming / partition .
Iridos 2017-03-07 03:34:23
dpkg, disk space
dpkg 2017-03-07 03:34:23
hmm... disk space is df1 shows a summary of the disk space used and free across all file systems. Use "cd /foo && du -hx --max-depth=1 | sort -h" to see which subdirectories of /foo are using lots of space, or use the graphical X tool gdmap or the ncurses tool ncdu -x. For space used by installed Debian packages, ask me about .
frostschutz 2017-03-07 03:37:28
mount --bind / /mnt/root && ncdu /mnt/root
plasmoduck 2017-03-07 03:45:48
anyone know how I can change only the mate menu icon without changing the entire icon theme?
plasmoduck 2017-03-07 03:46:56
the icon theme I am using sets the menu to the mate icon, but i want the gnome footprint icon, or a debian icon, or anything.
