hi, sorry i have question about install tar xz codeblocks for debian jessie, i must extract arch and install deb one after the other? Or is it fast installation method?
somiaj 2017-03-06 08:54:04
misirk85: care to clarify what you mean? Where are you gettnig these .xz files and they contain .deb's or you are compiling their source code into .debs?
misirk85 2017-03-06 09:16:59

Hello
c-c 2017-03-06 09:35:05
I restarted developing a base-desktop install script for debian jessie.
c-c 2017-03-06 09:35:18
It fails on trying to install "policykit-1".
c-c 2017-03-06 09:35:45
- This is a plain network install with apt-get update && upgrade ran (today).
c-c 2017-03-06 09:35:54
What is policykit-1 and why does it fail atm?
somiaj 2017-03-06 09:36:55
,v policykit-1
judd 2017-03-06 09:36:56
Package: policykit-1 on amd64 -- wheezy: 0.105-3; jessie: 0.105-15~deb8u2; stretch: 0.105-17; sid: 0.105-17; experimental: 0.113-5
somiaj 2017-03-06 09:37:25
c-c: policykit is used by many dekstops to help give the user root privlages for certain tasks, such as shutdown/suspend
c-c 2017-03-06 09:37:26
- let me correct: Why does installing policykit-1 fail on a jessie netinstall where apt-get update & upgrade have be ran today.
greycat 2017-03-06 09:37:31
"apt-cache show policykit-1" to see what it is
teraflops 2017-03-06 09:38:21
c-c: sharing the _exact_ error would help
semitones 2017-03-06 09:38:49
Hey all -- I'm trying to set a static IP on my computer. I'm following a good guide, however, do I need to make sure I set an IP address that DHCP on my router is not going to try to use for another device? How can I find out which IPs are safe? And does this not matter? Thanks!
greycat 2017-03-06 09:39:18
Yes, you must ensure you don't choose an IP that your DHCP server might also be using.
CeBe 2017-03-06 09:39:25
semitones: why would you set a static IP on a netowrk that is managed by DHCP?
c-c 2017-03-06 09:39:43
For my policykit-1 fail, see the script line number 94 here https://github.com/csmr/jesbang/blob/dev/jes.bang -- and the error is "E: Invalid operation"
c-c 2017-03-06 09:39:48
teraflops: ^
semitones 2017-03-06 09:39:49
CeBe, because it's not working correctly now. I can explain the whole situation
greycat 2017-03-06 09:39:49
Generally, if you can do so, the preferred solution would be to tell the DHCP server to give you (your MAC) the same IP every time.
semitones 2017-03-06 09:40:11
greycat, would that be through the router config? I'm not sure how to affect the verizon router
semitones 2017-03-06 09:40:14
but I could try
CeBe 2017-03-06 09:40:23
semitones: yes
greycat 2017-03-06 09:40:45
The second-best solution is to restrict the DHCP server's range of usable IPs, leaving you a few for manual assignment.
teraflops 2017-03-06 09:42:14
c-c: TL;DR if a plain apt-get install works, fix your script
semitones 2017-03-06 09:42:46
CeBe, I have a raspberry pi running raspbian. It has wifi and is plugged in on Ethernet. It's being used as a znc bounce. I wanted to connect to the bounce via the hostname, however I can't ping the hostname for some reason (because it's connected from both wifi and eth?), but I can ping the IP it's on. There have been a few times I haven't been able to SSH into it from any IP address. I'd also like to port forward to the znc port so I can
semitones 2017-03-06 09:42:46
connect to it from outside my home network. For these reasons, I want a network config that just works, and thought static IP would be the answer
c-c 2017-03-06 09:43:39
teraflops: it does, but why would the script fail (ok may be my bash fail)
semitones 2017-03-06 09:44:38
also I have two routers -- one main one, and one extended one that the device is connected to
CeBe 2017-03-06 09:44:38
semitones: "however I can't ping the hostname" - a hostname always resolves to an IP, so that would be an issue with your DNS setup if you do not get the correct IP
teraflops 2017-03-06 09:45:17
c-c: ask in #bash or wait to see if someone want's to take a look at your script
