hellyeah 2017-03-08 00:51:55
hmm
TimurTheLame 2017-03-08 00:52:24
hellyeah, are you running a custom kernel?
hellyeah 2017-03-08 00:52:50
my kernel is 4.9.0-0.bpo.1-686-pae
hellyeah 2017-03-08 00:53:09
i just use kernel that comes with debian installation
TimurTheLame 2017-03-08 00:54:00
hellyeah, if you'd do "sudo dkms status", you'd see that wl is not built because the "headers" package for your particular kernel isn't installed

Why do X switch the keyboard layout when I move to a usb keyboard?
dxtr 2017-03-08 01:25:29
I am using keyboard layout us, variant altgr-intl and the altgr-intl variant just stops working

Hi
Kerberos_ 2017-03-08 01:27:31
Folks, is there any possibility that someone can help me with screen "blinking" issue?
Kerberos_ 2017-03-08 01:29:03
?
petn-randall 2017-03-08 01:29:47
Kerberos_: It's custom to just ask your question, and then wait for someone who knows the answer to respond.

!ask
dpkg 2017-03-08 01:29:51
If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on debian-user@lists.debian.org. See .
Kerberos_ 2017-03-08 01:30:20
I would like to ask for your help, I installed and configured Debian (dual boot with WIN10) about 2 months ago. I had a problem with resolution initially, however I follow up tutorial from https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers under "Debian 8 "Jessie" and was able to fix issues, OS detects correct resolution and my graphic card (GTx 1080). Everything was great, I was digging into Debian, but since 2/3 days I'm experiencing
Kerberos_ 2017-03-08 01:30:48
'm turning on computer, everything works fine for 20/30 minutes, but after that time screen starts blinking from time to time (every 5/10 minutes maybe a little longer). I'm using Dell U3415W (connected by mDP 1.1 as Debian is not supporting DP 1.2 - audio) with audio (built in) and when screen starts blinking (black screen) I'm also losing audio, after 2 seconds everything works fine, but issue appears every few minutes, diode fro
Kerberos_ 2017-03-08 01:30:58
I don't know what can be the root cause as it has occured since 2/3 days, however during those days I only installed Virtual Box and nothing else. Kindly please advise...

compass_ 2017-03-08 01:33:01
so i upgraded kernel from 3.16(for old 586 procs) to same version but for 686 procs to enable multi core support
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:33:03
which works
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:33:37
but now wifi is hard blocked and linux doesn't recognize hardware switch. and it hangs on shutdown rather than switching off
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:34:00
hmm
tocix 2017-03-08 01:34:38
How did you upgrade linux?
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:35:39
sudo apt-get install linux-image-3.16.0-4-686-pae
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:36:43
was using linux-image-3.16.0-4-586 originally
TimurTheLame 2017-03-08 01:38:16
compass_, do you have the linux-headers-*your-version* package installed?
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:38:46
didn't do that explicitly, i guess that's a thing i should do right now :x
petn-randall 2017-03-08 01:40:22
compass_: I'm actually surprised those two kernels made a difference. The latter one just has PAE enabled.
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:41:34
hi petn-randall :D
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:42:02
yeah i thought it was worth a try. i get two cores now but lose wifi and have to manually power down lol
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:42:48
strange trade off
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:43:47
i read the debian page about 586 and it said only supports single core
petn-randall 2017-03-08 01:45:01
compass_: Where does it say that?
petn-randall 2017-03-08 01:45:33
compass_: Indeed! It says so in the package description. I didn't know that.
tw 2017-03-08 01:45:33
Kerberos_: does that happen in windows? because that sounds connectivity related.
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:45:33
yeah!
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:45:33
ok i've installed headers for 686 kernel, gonna restart and cross fingers
Kerberos_ 2017-03-08 01:45:33
tw_: In Windows everything works fine, however in Windows I'm switching to DP 1.2
BluesKaj 2017-03-08 01:45:33
odd , both cores of my old pc work well on stretch
BluesKaj 2017-03-08 01:45:33
pc/cpu
petn-randall 2017-03-08 01:45:37
BluesKaj: And you're running arch i386 with that specific kernel?
BluesKaj 2017-03-08 01:46:09
nope , this is debian support , so that's why I'm here
tw 2017-03-08 01:46:29
XD, no i386 architecture.
bezaban 2017-03-08 01:46:30
architecture
bezaban 2017-03-08 01:46:33
:)
tw 2017-03-08 01:46:48
We got wiseguy, I think =p
BluesKaj 2017-03-08 01:47:21
petn-randall, stretch is the debian test /dev/OS atm
compass_ 2017-03-08 01:47:39
oh well, guess 686 doesn't play nicely with this computer
bezaban 2017-03-08 01:47:56
been long since I've done anything with i386, I think it's purged from my memory
Kerberos_ 2017-03-08 01:48:15
tw_: for first 20 minutes screen is not blinking and everything works fine, after that time it starts blinking intermittenlly every 5/7 minutes
Kerberos_ 2017-03-08 01:48:54
screen is black and I have no audio for 2 seconds
kerberos_ 2017-03-08 02:08:54
BLuesKaj_: where I can check "spdif" output"? in pavucontrol?
stoned 2017-03-08 02:09:23
Yes.
rapha 2017-03-08 02:09:27
stoned: nevermind ... more people on that chan, maybe someone of them will think of something ;)
stoned 2017-03-08 02:09:29
Very. I'm stoned. Dude.
rapha 2017-03-08 02:09:33
lol
stoned 2017-03-08 02:09:35
:)
stoned 2017-03-08 02:09:50
Smile brother. With relaxation you'll figure this out.
BluesKaj 2017-03-08 02:10:23
kerberos_, start with alsamixer in the terminal first
teraflops 2017-03-08 02:10:27
kerberos_: checked what?
kerberos_ 2017-03-08 02:10:52
BluesKaj_: in pavucontrol I have first entry as "HDMI / DisplayPort 2 (unplugged) and second one as "Built in Audio Digital Stero (IEC958) - Digital Output (S/PDIF)
rapha 2017-03-08 02:10:57
btw why's there no debian-next anymore?

snowkrash 2017-03-08 02:11:13
why does service crond says its not loaded?
stoned 2017-03-08 02:11:14
Try irc.debian.org #debian-next
jelly 2017-03-08 02:11:15
rapha: which debian release? If you connect an external monitor, does that work?
kerberos_ 2017-03-08 02:11:15
teraflops_: I checked every post/forum with "debian no sound"
rapha 2017-03-08 02:11:17
ah
snowkrash 2017-03-08 02:11:20
why does service crond status says its not loaded?
rapha 2017-03-08 02:11:27
jelly: i'm on stretch
stoned 2017-03-08 02:11:32
rapha: are you on jessie?
stoned 2017-03-08 02:11:33
oh.
stoned 2017-03-08 02:11:43
Perhaps stretch resume/suspend is buggy?
snowkrash 2017-03-08 02:11:49
is this the wrong approach?
stoned 2017-03-08 02:11:51
It's still kind of testing.
kerberos_ 2017-03-08 02:11:53
BluesKaj_: I have opened alsamixer, and what I should do right now?
jelly 2017-03-08 02:11:54
snowkrash: probably because its name is "cron"
teraflops 2017-03-08 02:11:56
kerberos_: it says unplugged but it's actually plugged in?
stoned 2017-03-08 02:11:56
Just frozen
rapha 2017-03-08 02:12:02
jelly: nah, even with an external screen it's the same thing
kerberos_ 2017-03-08 02:35:26
BluesKaj: under Tab "Output Devices" I have two sections, first is "HDA Nvidia Digital Stereo (HDMI) port (HDMI/DisplayPort 2 (unplugged) and second section "Built-in Audio Digital Stereo (IEC958)" Port (Digital Output (S/PDIF)
kerberos_ 2017-03-08 02:35:44
tw: maybe I can share you my screen or just take a screenshot?
BluesKaj 2017-03-08 02:36:55
kerberos_, the Built-in Audio Digital Stereo (IEC958) should connect the digital signal to your display port(s)
shtrb 2017-03-08 02:38:03
what is the correct way to enable modem over dbus (modemmanger) - tried sudo qdbus  --system --type=method_call  org.freedesktop.ModemManager1 /org/freedesktop/ModemManager1/Modem/3 org.freedesktop.ModemManager1.Modem.Enable boolea
shtrb 2017-03-08 02:38:03
n:true    but that is not the correct syntex (as it seems)
kerberos_ 2017-03-08 02:43:13
BluesKaj: I tried both, and I have checked "Output Devices" tab, I can see only that bar of sound is only moving for "HDA Nvidia Digital Stereo (HDMI), port (HDMI / DisplayPort 2 (unplugged) and not not moving for BUilt- in Audio DIgital Stereo (IEC958)
BluesKaj 2017-03-08 02:43:15
kerberos_, I'm noy real familiar with display port audio , but I assume it's the same as hdmi from the soundcard, however , if that doen't work experiment with theo ther audio output options
BluesKaj 2017-03-08 02:43:56
'scuse the typos
