Atm0spher1c 2017-03-06 14:46:01
would it make sense to run testing, and when it becomes stable just change the sources?
Atm0spher1c 2017-03-06 14:46:31
old machines on wheezy, i dont want to upgrade twice.
somiaj 2017-03-06 14:48:38
you have to, you can't upgrade from wheezy to stretch without going through jessie
somiaj 2017-03-06 14:48:48
if you are going to reinstall you can install stretch directly.
somiaj 2017-03-06 14:49:02
(well you can, but it is not recomended)
akkad 2017-03-06 14:49:49
is there a 64bit userland for arm64?
Atm0spher1c 2017-03-06 14:51:18
somiaj, that's what i was going to do. just install testing
somiaj 2017-03-06 14:51:35
Atm0spher1c: I would wait for the release, unless you don't worry about timely security support
Atm0spher1c 2017-03-06 14:51:36
so then I can just simply change sources to jessie when it comes out?
somiaj 2017-03-06 14:51:53
what do you mean, jessie is already released.
akkad 2017-03-06 14:52:04
aarch64 == amd64?
akkad 2017-03-06 14:52:11
arm64 rather
Atm0spher1c 2017-03-06 14:52:22
meant stretch
Atm0spher1c 2017-03-06 14:52:39
or whatever it is
somiaj 2017-03-06 14:52:45
why change your sources, just make them stretch to the first place, you actually probably don't want 'testing' as your sources anyways
hiexpo 2017-03-06 14:54:18
hola all
Atm0spher1c 2017-03-06 14:54:22
somiaj, oh right of course
Atm0spher1c 2017-03-06 14:54:27
ya, i think that'll work
J1sy 2017-03-06 14:58:41
Hello system got install nw i want to install the wares that cöme with the full install
somiaj 2017-03-06 14:59:01
nw?
J1sy 2017-03-06 15:00:19
The base system
J1sy 2017-03-06 15:01:25
Black and white no gui
jsw_ 2017-03-06 15:01:27
J1sy, You might be looking for Synaptic Package Manager if you use a GUI, or aptitude/apt-get if you use command line.
somiaj 2017-03-06 15:02:14
you can run tasksel as well
J1sy 2017-03-06 15:02:28
I log in to be greetd by terminal
hiexpo 2017-03-06 15:02:46
does it say Hello Friend?
jsw_ 2017-03-06 15:02:49
Are you *trying* to install a GUI? Cause Tasksel is what you want in that case.
J1sy 2017-03-06 15:04:19
The system has no DE, TRYD SELECTING KDE IT kept failing
somiaj 2017-03-06 15:04:31
sounds like you don't have a network setup
somiaj 2017-03-06 15:04:49
I would first see what you need to setup the network, start with what type of network/card
J1sy 2017-03-06 15:06:15
That failed too,i am not worried i got no internet i download the 3 disks for full install
J1sy 2017-03-06 15:08:41
Being greeted by a screen of black and white is annoying and irritating
jsw_ 2017-03-06 15:09:01
When you installed, did you tell it to not install a GUI?
jsw_ 2017-03-06 15:09:17
Part of the normal install process is to run Tasksel, and the default *is* to install a GUI. Gnome I believe.
somiaj 2017-03-06 15:09:27
you aren't being clear, and some of us like the base install. What install image did you use exactly.
jsw_ 2017-03-06 15:09:45
If you have the disks and you do want a GUI, I would just reinstall and make sure the Desktop option is checked when you reach the tasksel step.
J1sy 2017-03-06 15:10:03
I tryed selecting kde it wanted internet of which i dnt have
somiaj 2017-03-06 15:10:15
we asked what install image did you use
J1sy 2017-03-06 15:11:22
Disk 1 so far
awal1 2017-03-06 15:11:31
use dvd1
awal1 2017-03-06 15:11:43
if no internet access durring install
jsw_ 2017-03-06 15:12:17
Perhaps somiaj meant are you using Debian Stable, Testing, or Unstable? If you don't know, you're probly using Stable.
awal1 2017-03-06 15:13:15
J1sy, do you have access to internet (wired/wifi) durring install?
somiaj 2017-03-06 15:14:04
dvd1 shouldn't require anything more to install the desktop
awal1 2017-03-06 15:15:26
dv11 includes all the DE available (gnome, kde, xfce, mate, cinnamon, lxde) http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/amd64/iso-dvd/ J1sy
jsw_ 2017-03-06 15:15:41
I'm not familiar with disk-based install but perhaps the KDE portions are on the 2nd disk?
awal1 2017-03-06 15:18:45
https://cdimage-search.debian.org/?search_area=release&type=simple&query=task-kde-desktop&Search=Search&.cgifields=search_area&.cgifields=type
awal1 2017-03-06 15:18:57

awal1 2017-03-06 15:19:03

semitones 2017-03-06 15:31:25
uuhhh... how do you quit vi when you're in byobu inside of putty? esc doesn't work
themill 2017-03-06 15:31:58
Ctrl+[ should also switch back to command mode
semitones 2017-03-06 15:36:41
