Iridos 2017-03-06 16:59:41
sim590, there's also apt-rdepends if you install it… which can also go the other way
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:08:12
funny… I also thought missing init.d files are missing configuration file… but except for the ucf managed ones, I couldn't find how one shows what the config files of a package actually are
sim590 2017-03-06 17:13:56
I had some kept packages so I did `apt install `. However, now it removed some packages I need...
sim590 2017-03-06 17:14:15
How can I install the packages I need and let apt do the job of downgrading packages it needs to downgrade.
sim590 2017-03-06 17:14:17

sim590 2017-03-06 17:14:19
?
BenNZ 2017-03-06 17:15:06
sim590: depends on what packages you mean , and why it needs to downgrade them
sim590 2017-03-06 17:15:35
For instance, when I do apt install python3-pyqt5, I get this: http://paste.debian.net/918496/
BenNZ 2017-03-06 17:16:13
sim590: whats the output of apt-cache python3-pyqt5
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:16:15
and downgrades aren't supported because packages can't really do that
BenNZ 2017-03-06 17:16:24
apt-cache policy python3-pyqt5
sim590 2017-03-06 17:16:58
http://paste.debian.net/918499/
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:17:28
try using aptitude
BenNZ 2017-03-06 17:17:32
apt-cache policy libqt5designer5
BenNZ 2017-03-06 17:17:45
and the same for qtbase-abi-5-7-1
sim590 2017-03-06 17:17:52
http://paste.debian.net/918500/
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:18:46
anyway, if you're on testing/unstable… you're supposed to know how to deal with all kinds of package dependency issues because they are part of testing testing
sim590 2017-03-06 17:19:15
http://paste.debian.net/918501/ this one is a virtual package. The package providing this virutal package is libqt5core5a: http://paste.debian.net/918502/
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:19:32
but anyway, try using aptitude, it has a more complex dependency solving mechanism
BenNZ 2017-03-06 17:19:51
ok so do you want the one from testing or experimental
sim590 2017-03-06 17:20:00
Iridos: I have just started. We all have to start at some point, so that's where I am now.
BenNZ 2017-03-06 17:20:16
\you need to choose a version and use that
sim590 2017-03-06 17:20:37
BenNZ: a version for what package?
BenNZ 2017-03-06 17:20:38
or at least use some form of package pinning
BenNZ 2017-03-06 17:20:49
sim590: i meant as in stable testing or experimental
sim590 2017-03-06 17:21:37
I want the packages that will let me install python3-pyqt5 back. I need this for running my browser...
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:21:42
there is that… but then using stable is a much more recommended, as it doesn't break on its own all the time
BenNZ 2017-03-06 17:22:12
if you have to ask , then yeah use stable
sim590 2017-03-06 17:22:18
Iridos: stable is old as the dinausors... I have identified multiple packages which are just so old I can't use them...
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:22:43
like what
sim590 2017-03-06 17:23:06
ranger, awesome, qutebrowser, ... I can go on and on.
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:23:53
an ncurses file manager? seriously?
sim590 2017-03-06 17:23:56
I don't need to be conviced to use older software. I just want to know how to resolve this.
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:24:12
well, I told you what you can try ages ago
sim590 2017-03-06 17:24:16
Iridos: Yes. Seriously.
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:24:46
there is not much else, but go down the dependencies manually if aptitude cannot do it
sim590 2017-03-06 17:26:20
Is aptitude doing things apt-get cannot do? Can't I just use some flag with apt-get so that it installs packages and downgrades some other packages and present me with the solution and ask me if I want it or not?
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:26:22
judd, versions
judd 2017-03-06 17:26:23
(versions [--arch ] [--release ]) -- Show the available versions of a package in the optionally specified release and for the given architecture. All current releases and amd64 are searched by default. By default, binary packages are searched; prefix the packagename with "src:" to search source packages.
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:26:31
libqt5designer5
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:26:44
meh, lag
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:26:55
judd, versions libqt5designer5
judd 2017-03-06 17:26:56
Package: libqt5designer5 on amd64 -- wheezy-backports: 5.3.2-3~bpo70+5; jessie: 5.3.2-3; stretch: 5.7.1-1; sid: 5.7.1-1
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:30:09
you can install a specific version of a package with apt-get install package=version
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:30:42
dpkg, partial downgrade
dpkg 2017-03-06 17:30:43
This may or may not work for you, but if you've got nothing to lose then try it: (a) change sources.list (b) aptitude update (c) aptitude and then search for the upgraded packages, hit enter on them, select the correct version (d) do the same for libc6 (e) search for broken packages by pressing "b" and then fix them in the same way (f) once you have no more broken packages, hit 'g'. See .
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:31:21
of course, I skipped saying again that downgrades aren'T really a thing, as upstream only supports upgrade paths, not downgrade paths
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:31:25
dokg downgrade
J1sy 2017-03-06 17:32:49
Hello i tried tasksel and it failed i checkd kde and gnome
sim590 2017-03-06 17:39:35
Iridos: going into aptitude and pressing 'g' (which was written to be standing for install, upgrade, download, ...) it uninstalled somewhat important packages http://paste.debian.net/918506/.
sim590 2017-03-06 17:39:51
wtf
Iridos 2017-03-06 17:40:40
if you request an operation from the commandline just like you would with apt-get, it asks you "is that solution ok for you?" and you can choose one out of many
sim590 2017-03-06 17:41:23
I can't find the package anymore.
sim590 2017-03-06 17:41:33
in aptitude, it's not listed. It was listed in the first place.
sim590 2017-03-06 17:41:44
now I only have python3-pyqt5-dbg
sim590 2017-03-06 17:43:59
nvm. The interface is not intuitive at all.. But w/e.
ktechmidas 2017-03-06 17:44:14
What package contains "netstat" on debian?
ktechmidas 2017-03-06 17:44:45
I'm searing for it but I can't find anything... and it's not in the repo under something nice like "netstat" :D
