guys I am writing post install script for my personal debian install.. while testing iso with post-install script works awesome I have one issue, while user is on live iso it is still asking him for root password.. how to make it just click and work? does anyone know?
artificial 2017-03-04 11:10:42
Just installed debian, but its not detecting my wireless NIC. lspci detects it though.
unborn 2017-03-04 11:11:52
artificial: free or non free?
somiaj 2017-03-04 11:12:12
unborn: the live iso's the default user has sudo privlages with no password, so just run the command with sudo.
unborn 2017-03-04 11:12:13
possibly free.. as non free would install drivers right a way
x032cx 2017-03-04 11:12:29
unborn:did you try admin
artificial 2017-03-04 11:12:32
unborn: what do you mean
unborn 2017-03-04 11:13:20
somiaj: thank you. I know for the fact that user is presented and password as well.. - for live distro.. im just.. let me check if su will do it.. be with me
dontknow 2017-03-04 11:13:23
what packages should i install to make hexchat to highlight wrong letter. i mean typing correction
unborn 2017-03-04 11:13:53
spellcheck dontknow
unborn 2017-03-04 11:14:20
or aspell
unborn 2017-03-04 11:14:58
somiaj: rebooting.. sorry for time consuming.. I am testing this in vm..
dontknow 2017-03-04 11:15:07
unborn, aspell is installed
unborn 2017-03-04 11:16:25
dontknow: then go to hexchat, click on settings, preferences and there in input box check spell checking on
unborn 2017-03-04 11:16:31
you should be good to go
unborn 2017-03-04 11:17:11
somiaj: I guess you can gram some cigarette as I will need at least 10 minutes to finish dummy install.
unborn 2017-03-04 11:17:30
re* grab
dontknow 2017-03-04 11:17:35
unborn, it is checked i set it "en_US"
somiaj 2017-03-04 11:17:50
unborn: I don't know what you mean by live distro, but if using a debian live images, sudo was as far as I knew enabled without requiring a password.
unborn 2017-03-04 11:18:15
dontknow: then check if your aspell have that language installed
unborn 2017-03-04 11:19:23
dontknow: coz on my end point it does works.. mine one is en_gb - language setup system wide... but for example in libre office I hate to use us checks otherwise it just did not worked.
dontknow 2017-03-04 11:21:13
unborn, it doesn2t work for me :/
linuxgoof 2017-03-04 11:21:54
hey guys
linuxgoof 2017-03-04 11:22:09
i'm on wheezy trying to update to jessie but i'm having an issue can someone help me out
unborn 2017-03-04 11:23:03
somiaj: okay, iso is installed but when script started it is still asking me (the end user) for password.. means it does not work. what I am trying to achieve is debian install for 60+ of my family members to give them some settings and packages right once debian netinstall is done. I figured out how to do all things like bookmarks in nautilus with all passwords etc.. even vpn but still want to install gimp and other packages, but without asking for
unborn 2017-03-04 11:23:04
root password while they are in live dvd/cd.
x032cx 2017-03-04 11:23:35
am still running potato maybe i should upgrade to wheezy
linuxgoof 2017-03-04 11:23:48
lol
bazhang 2017-03-04 11:23:52
potato?
unborn 2017-03-04 11:24:01
somiaj: perhaps it involve more deeper knowledge or something? - it would be just easier to give them install.sh script isn't it?
unborn 2017-03-04 11:24:45
dontknow: what version of debian you are running?
linuxgoof 2017-03-04 11:24:50
i'm getting a dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/udev_215-17+deb8u6_powerpc.deb (--unpack): subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
linuxgoof 2017-03-04 11:25:04
don't know why or how to fix
linuxgoof 2017-03-04 11:25:23
results in a Errors were encountered while processing:

dontknow 2017-03-04 11:25:37
unborn, jessie. i installed "enchant" package. i think it should work now. maybe i need to restart hexchat
towo` 2017-03-04 11:26:19
linuxgoof, have you tryed apt-get -f install?
dontknow 2017-03-04 11:27:04
yeah it works now
unborn 2017-03-04 11:27:10
dontknow: perhaps.. I use only free version.. heck Ive seen non free version but nothing like enchant package.. oh you mean hexchat? - well I only use standard packages from debian repos.. they always work man :)
dontknow 2017-03-04 11:27:14
unborn, it works now
unborn 2017-03-04 11:27:38
dontknow: after restart? so - aspell was correct one
unborn 2017-03-04 11:27:48
...restart of hexchat
dontknow 2017-03-04 11:28:02
unborn, i installed "enchant" package and restarted hexchat
linuxgoof 2017-03-04 11:28:32
oh wait do i have to reboot with the new kernel before updating the distro
somiaj 2017-03-04 11:28:33
unborn: what live cd/dvd are you talking about?
unborn 2017-03-04 11:28:40
dontknow: yes I did get it in end of my slow understanding process.. sorry for that. well - enjoy ;)
unborn 2017-03-04 11:28:45
somiaj: jessie
somiaj 2017-03-04 11:29:13
the live cd should give the main user sudo privlages without a password, at least that was the way it worked last time I checked.
towo` 2017-03-04 11:29:14
linuxgoof, it's a bad idea to reboot in the middle of a unfinished update
unborn 2017-03-04 11:29:22
somiaj: I am creating live dvd for my mom and father and brother....
somiaj 2017-03-04 11:29:25
but if you are running a script inside the chroot, this is different.
bazhang 2017-03-04 11:29:52
!potato to wheezy
unborn 2017-03-04 11:30:24
somiaj: yes that is what I said, however I would like to have them to install some stuff after they log into the system after fresh install
somiaj 2017-03-04 11:31:08
bazhang: it is release1->release2 and you can't skip releases in the upgrade, so you'll have to go through every release between potato and wheezy
somiaj 2017-03-04 11:31:37
unborn: in that case they will have to run the script as root, you could just set up sudo privagles with no password if you wanted.
bazhang 2017-03-04 11:31:46
somiaj, right, someone just claimed to be running potato here
somiaj 2017-03-04 11:31:52
unborn: and in this case the fact you installed off a live cd is of no relivance. You are not running inside a live cd so no need to keep mentioning it as it confuses the issue.
unborn 2017-03-04 11:31:52
somiaj: aha! heh I just had that moment of aha.. its working correctly! I just forgot that after install... it all works, script is launched and of course it have to ask for root password, its not a live dvd any more.. meh
unborn 2017-03-04 11:32:53
somiaj: I just realised that.. perhaps I was working too much today.. sorry. you was right from right of the start of our convo.
unborn 2017-03-04 11:34:36
oh man I love debian :)
x032cx 2017-03-04 11:34:43
bazhang:what is wrong with bring an old debian sys to life
unborn 2017-03-04 11:37:27
somiaj: thank you very much for helping me to realise my mistake!
unborn 2017-03-04 11:43:34
bazhang: ..why are you trolling? there is no need for it.
bazhang 2017-03-04 11:44:02
unborn, someone else asked about it, scroll up
unborn 2017-03-04 11:44:58
