domovoy 2017-03-06 10:48:39
so, i should get rid of the Strict-Transport-Security: header ?
Digz 2017-03-06 10:48:53
quick question, I don't think it is any problem.... I run a debian server at home with 1 cpu 2 cores defined in VMWare... as of late I have started running more different things on it. I can change the cores from 2 to 4, I am presuming that debian doesn't care at all and just distributes whatever it needs to 2 more cores if it runs out of cpu? - or is there some file on the OS I would also need to adjust and/or recompile?
CeBe 2017-03-06 10:49:15
domovoy: to sum up, the header is to allows a website to tell the browser that it is working with HTTPS only and every attept that is trying something without https is suspicious activity.
CeBe 2017-03-06 10:49:35
it indicates that the website will always only be available via Https

CeBe 2017-03-06 10:49:48
if they serve other stuff on that domain, that is a configuration issue
unborn 2017-03-06 10:50:48
domovoy: apache proxying would be way to go.. no ports, ssl enabled, forced or not, that would work
CeBe 2017-03-06 10:50:53
domovoy: if you do not control the website you can not get rid of the header, except by telling them about the problem
domovoy 2017-03-06 10:51:26
so actually, the right way to do it would be to keep the header, but serve the radio on another domain?
CeBe 2017-03-06 10:51:44
domovoy: yes
unborn 2017-03-06 10:51:57
domovoy: I can see you running it on apache on ohv.. why not ask them for help? or you self managed?
jhutchins_wk 2017-03-06 10:52:22
Digz: It depends more on the software. Take a look at what the CPU load actually is. If the apps are multithread capable they can use more cores, but some just lock on one.
unborn 2017-03-06 10:52:28
domovoy: not really need to do so
domovoy 2017-03-06 10:52:40
unborn> i manage everything myself, did a debootstrap from ovh rescue
jhutchins_wk 2017-03-06 10:52:46
Digz: Remember, if you define x cores VMWare has to wait until that many cores are idle before it can give that VM a tick.
semitones 2017-03-06 10:53:09
hooray it is working again, now that it really is using dhcp! Now going to try greycat's original suggestion of making my router always give it the same IP address
unborn 2017-03-06 10:53:15
domovoy: sure, since that is offtopic.. see my message
unborn 2017-03-06 10:54:21
semitones: that will work, however every time you add or remove any device on network, you would go and edit every single host file on those devices + you would be very happy to forget about mobile devices..
CeBe 2017-03-06 10:55:02
unborn: if you have a fixed IP there is no need for a hostname or hosts file
semitones 2017-03-06 10:55:26
you're right that pinging "patpi" still doesn't work. However if I can get a static IP I'll just reference that in my IRC clients
Noetic 2017-03-06 10:55:53
semitones: check your router may have the ability to give out speicifc IP address, so the router will still give our DHCP to other devices but when the router sees the MAC address of a specific device it will assign a specific IP to just that device
semitones 2017-03-06 10:56:20
Noetic, I'm going to try that -- verizon's config tools don't make it obvious but that's my next step :)
Noetic 2017-03-06 10:56:40
semitones: is this a router/cable modem in one?
unborn 2017-03-06 10:56:45
domovoy: thats what I was telling you exactly.. glad you understand what I mean it
semitones 2017-03-06 10:57:14
hold on I'll check if there's a coax going into it...
Noetic 2017-03-06 10:57:25
ok
unborn 2017-03-06 10:57:34
CeBe: yes - I understand this all.. I was referring to earlier palava here on irc.
semitones 2017-03-06 10:57:45
Noetic, yes it appears to be what it is
Noetic 2017-03-06 10:58:31
hmm, may have to do some digging

To run ZFS for the root fs, Jessie requires an updated Grub from Stretch or Sid. When installing grub-pc from Sid, apt also took its dependencies from Sid, including libfuse2, even though the versions in Jessie would satisfy the requirement. Now that these libraries have been upgraded, gnome-core can't be installed as there is a conflict with the Sid package for libfuse2. My question is how
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:36:51
I can go about downgrading the dependencies for grub-pc which don't actually need to be pulled from Sid. Attempting to do so in a test VM just broke apt.
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:37:49
I'm in something of a Catch-22. I got around this by upgrading to Stretch, which gave me a working system without any unstable packages. However, there is no OpenPHT binary for Stretch at this time. I need Jessie for OpenPHT, but I need the unstable Grub for ZFS. :P
c-c 2017-03-06 11:38:47
can you install OpenPHT from jessie
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:38:57
No, I tried.
c-c 2017-03-06 11:39:09
ie. specify version, or, specify release
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:39:11
It depends on libcec3 (used for sending IR signals through CEC)
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:39:43
I tried the Jessie OpenPHT 1.7.1 packages from here: https://github.com/RasPlex/OpenPHT/releases
c-c 2017-03-06 11:40:23
jasonwc: which release are you on?
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:40:44
At this time, the machine is running Debian Stretch
c-c 2017-03-06 11:41:09
And grub and base system and apt works ok?
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:41:11
I would prefer to run Jessie but was unable to install gnome-core given the aforementioned issue
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:41:16
Yes, everything works fine
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:41:26
The Stretch system has only Stretch packages, and works fine
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:42:36
I installed ZFS as root using these instructions: https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/wiki/Debian-Jessie-Root-on-ZFS
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:42:56
It requires grub from either unstable or stretch.
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:43:31
I think it is possible to get everything working if I manually install the grub dependencies from Jessie and then install only the grub packages from Stretch
c-c 2017-03-06 11:43:36
ok, I suppose I should first tell you to read https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian#Don.27t_make_a_FrankenDebian
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:44:01
Yeah, I know. I'm trying to install the fewest number of packages necessary to get ZFS to function
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:44:09
which I believe is just grub
c-c 2017-03-06 11:44:10
and no, I don't think your plan for grub-deps-from-jessie&&grub-lib-from-stretch will work
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:44:16
Why?
c-c 2017-03-06 11:44:25
And no, from what you say I think you don't know.
jasonwc 2017-03-06 11:44:30
I checked the dependencies and all of the libraries can be satisfied from Jessie
c-c 2017-03-06 11:44:38
So, please read that link again...
