hello, can some one explain how to fix this problem? http://pastebin.com/fG8VhJ3j i cant download from that page, also maybe some one can try to download from that page to check maybe the problem is in them side?
snowkrash 2017-03-07 01:02:27
do you recommend to use tripwire?
davencyw 2017-03-07 01:06:16
hello
tobiasBora 2017-03-07 01:06:20
Does anyone knows how I could update all my system, except the texlive distribution ? (I don't have the time to update the XX Go of my texlive distro)
davencyw 2017-03-07 01:08:01
i have updated my nvidia drivers to a broken version (i guess) and now tried to reinstall the drivers, if i boot, just a shell opens to log in.. and then i can execute startx but then i get just another shell where i can launch some programs but not all.. but my normal window manager (i3) is not working..
uniTosch 2017-03-07 01:08:27
grauzikas2: works for me. you can also try downloading it using a browser.
tobiasBora 2017-03-07 01:09:32
davencyw: Did you remove X11 when you removed the nvidia drivers ?
davencyw 2017-03-07 01:10:14
tobiasBora, i dont think so
davencyw 2017-03-07 01:11:05
tobiasBora, i removed xorg stuff (is this the same?) but reinstalled it again
CeBe 2017-03-07 01:11:16
tobiasBora: you need to put the packages on hold: http://askubuntu.com/questions/18654/how-to-prevent-updating-of-a-specific-package
snowkrash 2017-03-07 01:11:33
Walex, ok, well i just talked about public key plus password but i think i understood now
snowkrash 2017-03-07 01:11:44
Walex, do u recommend tripwire for debian?
Flashdown 2017-03-07 01:12:30
Hello together, I have a debian stretch server which is ad integrated using samba with kerberos. Today I faced a situation where in /var/tmp/ files have been written beginning with krb5_somestring which filled up /var/tmp and because of this kerberos failed. I remember that today a colleague was logged in using local console and logged in as root for some time. I am trying to figure out what special situation causes these files to
Flashdown 2017-03-07 01:12:51
any ideas? normally that folder uses 1.6 MB out of 100 MB
tobiasBora 2017-03-07 01:13:23
CeBe: Thank you !
uniTosch 2017-03-07 01:13:27
davencyw: if you use startx and no dm, you would usually create an ~/.xinitrc with exec i3 in it. have you done that?
davencyw 2017-03-07 01:14:26
uniTosch, i had a dm before, but that is gone as well..
tobiasBora 2017-03-07 01:14:36
davencyw: Well, usually you don't want to remove the xorg stuff... After I'm really not an expert, so I don't have better idea that purging every nvidia* packages, and reinstall your gnome/xfce/kde/whatever environment.
davencyw 2017-03-07 01:15:10
i think i can generate an x config file with the nvidia settings
Flashdown 2017-03-07 01:15:11
Is this the right place to ask or should I go to a samba/ Kerberos channel?
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:15:24
what's better, dnsmasq or bind if I just want dns, not dhcp?
tx 2017-03-07 01:16:04
What for?
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:16:11
dns forwarding and setting local domains
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:16:22
it'd run on a rpi so needs to be lightweight
tx 2017-03-07 01:16:38
multiple domains?
tx 2017-03-07 01:16:39
(local)
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:16:51
yes, sharing machine names
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:16:59
in lan
tx 2017-03-07 01:17:24
oh right, so just the one
jolt 2017-03-07 01:17:27
`slikts: I would use dnsmasq in 99 percent of those cases, thats very lightweight and easier to maintain
tx 2017-03-07 01:17:27
computer1.foo
tx 2017-03-07 01:17:29
computer2.foo
petn-randall 2017-03-07 01:17:29
!raspbian
dpkg 2017-03-07 01:17:29
Raspbian is a distribution made specifically for the . Raspbian is not Debian and it is not supported in #debian. Please use #raspbian on irc.freenode.net for support. http://www.raspbian.org/
tx 2017-03-07 01:17:43
I'd use dnsmasq, yeah.
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:17:53
tx: thanks, that makes sense
jolt 2017-03-07 01:18:08
`slikts: Especially since you can have dnsmasq look at the hosts-file instead of setting up a full zone
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:18:12
oh, cool
tx 2017-03-07 01:18:15
Which can be in a PITA.
tx 2017-03-07 01:18:20
(zone files)
jolt 2017-03-07 01:18:33
(bind in general :D
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:18:40
I've used both before, just thought that there might be an another alternative
tx 2017-03-07 01:18:48
there's powerdns
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:18:59
sounds scary
tx 2017-03-07 01:19:02
but I would still use dnsmasq, the set up lends itself to it
tx 2017-03-07 01:19:08
as it is quite simple (and so is dnsmasq)
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:19:26
hopefully the rpi is fast enough to handle dns forwarding...
tx 2017-03-07 01:19:34
for sure
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:19:48
you'd think that, but in my experience it's almost always disappointingly slow
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:19:53
even shell over ssh is slow on it
jolt 2017-03-07 01:20:03
`slikts: Thats not a big job, dont worry about it
tx 2017-03-07 01:20:14
is this over wifi?
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:20:16
no
tx 2017-03-07 01:20:28
hm, which pi?
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:20:57
1 model b iirc
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:21:01
yeah
tx 2017-03-07 01:21:21
Ah right, you may need to run raspi-config (or get it and run it if you are using debian debian)
davencyw 2017-03-07 01:21:25
ok wow, i got it! the missing piece war lightdm
tx 2017-03-07 01:21:27
to set the memory share ratio and clock rate
tx 2017-03-07 01:21:32
they all use 10/100 ethernet though.
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:21:42
the network is 100 base t
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:21:48
so that's fine
BluesKaj 2017-03-07 01:22:27
Howdy folks
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:22:55
so far the pi has failed as an htpc (xbmc), a web server and a mc server :)
BluesKaj 2017-03-07 01:23:37
kodi works well here on my rpi3
`slikts 2017-03-07 01:23:56
this is pi 1
BluesKaj 2017-03-07 01:24:24
yeah , a bit much for the 1

recommendations for incremental back up solution? I have currently a rsync setup but each rsync updates the backup potentially overwriting previous good backup. So ideally something with forward/back increment snapshots.

petermolnar 2017-03-07 01:34:18
hi #debian, a quick question: xfce4-volumed doesn't seem to exist in stretch (9 rc2) as a package, yet it's shown in sid as debports; is anyone aware of the reasons? I can't find anything on this.
bzed 2017-03-07 01:34:18
rgr: rsnapshot should work well, too. if you want tome real dedpu and encryption, use somthing else
tx 2017-03-07 01:34:18
petermolnar: https://packages.qa.debian.org/x/xfce4-volumed.html
tx 2017-03-07 01:34:18
:(
petermolnar 2017-03-07 01:34:48
xfce4-volumed has some tricky workaround to support gauge display like the power manager for brightness
tx 2017-03-07 01:35:15
So what isn't working?
tx 2017-03-07 01:35:20
Notifications for media changes?
tx 2017-03-07 01:35:32
or notify-send itself? :P
petermolnar 2017-03-07 01:37:39
media key mapping is ok with application shortcuts mapped to Xf86 and amixer; however, there are not notifications about the volume any more. if you map notify-send to the key as well, the xfce4-notifyd doesn't support gauge values, therefore on every keystroke it will send a new notification; this isn't the case with volumed, which handled this gracefully, just like the power manager for the brightness.
petermolnar 2017-03-07 01:40:21
now, I could create a wrapper, using libnotify directly, but that's hackier than xfce4 usually is :)
tx 2017-03-07 01:42:52
the response I am getting is "Use xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin and pavucontrol instead."
tx 2017-03-07 01:42:52
" with the advent of xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin for the panel, you don't need xfce4-volumed anymore, because it can show notifications by itself."
tx 2017-03-07 01:42:52
it's a christmas miracle!
petermolnar 2017-03-07 01:42:52
that requires an xfce4-panel, which I'm not running at the moment (I'm using tint2). No need for sarcasm, this, for me, is a regression in modularity.
tx 2017-03-07 01:44:05
petermolnar: in terms of non-xfce specific alternatives, volumeicon may be one.
petermolnar 2017-03-07 01:44:06
anyway, I'll take a look at https://git.xfce.org/apps/xfce4-volumed-pulse which seems to be the actual replacement; thank you for the answers for why volumed had been removed
tx 2017-03-07 01:44:33
http://nullwise.com/volumeicon.html , positive there is a packaged version also.
tx 2017-03-07 01:44:35
no worries.
