Why can't I get Twitter to run with Icedove
the_punisher 2017-03-01 10:57:14
how can i install all pachages of kali linux
mtn 2017-03-01 10:57:34
the_punisher: aren't you running mint?
mtn 2017-03-01 10:57:48
the_punisher: debian won't support you, either
somiaj 2017-03-01 10:58:48
the_punisher: in general you do not want to install .deb packages made for another os/distro, if running mint, install mint packages.
the_punisher 2017-03-01 10:59:18
i running kali linux 2016.1
somiaj 2017-03-01 11:00:06
!kali
dpkg 2017-03-01 11:00:06

somiaj 2017-03-01 11:00:16
the_punisher: then you should use kali support to ask about how to install kali packages
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:00:26
hello. Could anyone please help me with this error? "Package 'openjdk-8-jdk' has no installation candidate"
mtn 2017-03-01 11:00:35
he said he was using mint a few minutes ago :P
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:01:16
Hello
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:01:41
I am trying to use Shared Folders on a VM (Debian) on Virtual Box
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:01:50
sudo mount -t vboxsf share /home/toto
the_punisher 2017-03-01 11:01:54
where can i find kali support like you
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:02:05
I am using that command and it is not working
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 11:02:41
Vlan: openjdk-7-jdk exists. You can use java-package to create packages from oracles releases.
Donquixote 2017-03-01 11:05:04
I can't get Twitter to run with Icedove please help
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:06:47
Shadow_7: not sure exactly what you mean. I have two almost identical servers, from one I can install java 8, from the other I get this error. Same output in uname -a, same repos, same everything :(
the_punisher 2017-03-01 11:06:51
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 11:07:43
Vlan: are you sure they're the same? one have -backports?
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:07:58
Shadow_7: it does not
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 11:08:06
It's a virtual one on my vanille jessie install
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:08:08
not in /etc/apt/sources.list anyways
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:10:40
post your sources list
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:10:48

n4dir: http://pastebin.com/3JXVNmWU
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:14:46
i would call that a miracle.
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:15:21
n4dir: what you mean?
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:15:30
oh, openjdk-8-jdk?
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:15:35
yes
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:15:45
Hello
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:15:48
apt-get install openjdk-8-jdk
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:16:02
i read 7, 7 is here. 8 ain't here. In that case the miracle is that it is to be found on your other machine
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:16:02
it's supposed to be installable
qmr 2017-03-01 11:16:03
Vlan: java is never the answer
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:16:05
How can I configure a shared folder in debian virtual box?
missmbob 2017-03-01 11:16:10
8 is in jessie-backports
qmr 2017-03-01 11:16:20
alpharray: plenty of docs on virtualbox site
qmr 2017-03-01 11:16:30
you could also just do it with nfs / smb
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:16:52
missmbob: sorry for the noob question, but how come a most recent version is in backports?
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:17:17
qmr: I'm trying to install rundeck, which requires java
missmbob 2017-03-01 11:17:19
Vlan: that's the point of backports. newer versions for stable system
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:17:28
qmr: There is supposed to be something working on with the configuration I have. Runned: "sudo mount -t vboxsf share /home/..." but it is not recognizing vboxsf
qmr 2017-03-01 11:17:39
Vlan: again java is never the answer
qmr 2017-03-01 11:17:49
alpharray: as in 'command not found' ?
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:17:52
qmr: is it that bad?
qmr 2017-03-01 11:17:58
Vlan: yes
keltim 2017-03-01 11:18:16
Vlan, yes, but it's not like we have a choice
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:18:53
qmr: keltim: bad for the opensource community?
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:18:59
or bad like the code is shit?
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:19:09
qmr: "Mount point share does not exist"
qmr 2017-03-01 11:19:10
bloated, slow, and bloated
qmr 2017-03-01 11:19:23
alpharray: do you understand what a 'mount point' is?
qmr 2017-03-01 11:19:34
you need an empty directory to mount a block device (or whatever) on
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:19:52
qmr: Not to be honest.
keltim 2017-03-01 11:20:04
Vlan, just so many issues with it ... slow to start, slow to die, usually they're very messy and poorly packaged, apps take forever to warm up, etc.
qmr 2017-03-01 11:20:12
also are you sure you're trying to mount from right spot? ( inside / outside the vm )
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:20:27
qmr: The thing is, I am trying to have my coding projects run on a VM and written in my main host.
keltim 2017-03-01 11:20:29
enterprise java apps are without a doubt the most unprofessional crap I think I've ever seen
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:20:39
qmr: I have heard that this is the best way to do it, not sure still.
missmbob 2017-03-01 11:20:43
yeah android sucks
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:21:01
qmr: I really don't know, guides say this is what I am supposed to do, but really don't know
qmr 2017-03-01 11:21:12
alpharray: yea years since I've messed with something like that. I would just do nfs or smb
qmr 2017-03-01 11:21:25
alpharray: the naive thing to do is 'mkdir share' so that directory exists, then try mounting again
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:21:48
qmr: already done that
qmr 2017-03-01 11:21:56
didn't change the error message?
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:22:01
Nah
qmr 2017-03-01 11:22:15
restart the vm?
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:22:15
qmr: should I just go into nfs?
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:22:20
alpharray: Guest Additions are installed?
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:22:22
qmr: Like 10 times
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:22:26
n4dir: yep
qmr 2017-03-01 11:22:35
I would also suggest using dvcs and writing your code wherever
keltim 2017-03-01 11:22:54
alpharray, I just use nfs with vbox
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:23:05
qmr: keltim: I could look for an alternative to rundeck but I'm hardly finding anything. It must be opensource, of course. Do you guys happen to know any nice job automation software?
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:23:07
I have no idea what smb, nfs or dvcs are, let me check if out
qmr 2017-03-01 11:23:16
idk what rundeck is
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:23:17
keltim: thanks keltim. I am going to try
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:23:26
alpharray: well, then ... the how-to looks easy enough (pretty much what you said). Been ages i fooled with VBox
Vlan 2017-03-01 11:23:26
I know it's off topic, forgive me with that :)
qmr 2017-03-01 11:23:49
Vlan: https://www.reddit.com/r/devops/comments/3szdgz/which_rundeck_equivalent_is_better/
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:23:53
n4dir: Hahaha, shit happens
keltim 2017-03-01 11:23:56
oh rundeck. I thought that was ssas ...
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:24:20
alpharray: depending on what exactly you need either a simple rsync or sshfs are further options to share between guest and host
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:24:40
n4dir: I need to compile my code in a virtual machine
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:24:42
That is all
keltim 2017-03-01 11:24:54
Vlan, I'm sure rundeck is alright, but we use saltstack (it has a pretty complete remote job scheduler built in). It doesn't have a nice gui or anything.
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:25:01
i guess in that case you will get away with rsync (or even something like filezilla)
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:25:18
n4dir: are they secure to use?
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:25:53
imho they are (at least rsync or sshfs or anything based on ssh)
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:26:05
n4dir: I think I will get into nfs and see how it goes
niggard 2017-03-01 11:26:05
hello, debs, could anyone advice a simple tool for photo/image editing?
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:26:05
GIMP
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:26:05
sure. I recall it gave me headaches, but perhaps for you it's easy
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:26:09
n4dir: That is not going to be the case
niggard 2017-03-01 11:26:10
gimp is an overkill, it's too big for a simple task that I have (just scale an image down)
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:26:26
n4dir: which one do you recommend for my scenario?
keltim 2017-03-01 11:26:33
niggard, like what sort of editing tasks ... what is "simple"?
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:26:35
I am mostly going to be running from pycharm
koollman 2017-03-01 11:26:42
niggard: it's pretty easy to do, though
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:26:47
can't say, as i only know rsync and sshfs, i don't know nfs or samba or such
keltim 2017-03-01 11:27:10
niggard, imagemagick's cli tools should be fine for that
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:27:26
most easy would probably be the shared folder of Vbox ...
niggard 2017-03-01 11:27:26
keltim: I prefer GUI tools for such stuff
peterS 2017-03-01 11:27:29
niggard: yeah in particular 'mogrify' from the imagemagick package - see 'man mogrify', it can do a lot
niggard 2017-03-01 11:27:46
awcrap, well, thanks, gimp it is then.
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:28:00
n4dir: Let me attempt once again the shared folder option
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:28:39
alpharray: the ubuntu how-to has a troubleshooting section https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VirtualBox/SharedFolders#Troubleshooting
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 11:29:12
gimp, krita, and others for gui. imagemagick is good if you want to do a lot of little edits to many images. aaphoto is nice if you're not so good at color correction.
niggard 2017-03-01 11:29:32
Shadow_7: thanks!
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 11:31:06
Depending on what you want for results, it useful to mix your edit back with the original image to smooth things out.
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:32:02
n4dir: using Debian currently
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:34:10
i think in that case it doesn't matter.
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:34:36
it can matter, of course, but often you get away with ubuntu how-to's
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:34:41
n4dir: Holy crap. I am getting headaches...
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:35:22
n4dir: is "home/a/Documents/Coding" a valid shared name?
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:36:02
if a is a username
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:36:38
well: /home/a/... not home/a/...
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:36:46
Yeah
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:36:48
a is a username
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:36:52
and I put the /
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:37:07
my username is user, but a is even better. lol
tdn 2017-03-01 11:37:22
peterS, do you not agree that it is important enough to be foxed in stable? it is my understanding that this is based on an assesment of the severity of the bug and also the risk of the patch breaking anyrhing. i think the risk should be very small as the patch seems almost trivial and the impact of not being able to generate secure certs is high
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:37:44
you can ask at the VirtualBox forum, in case it still exists (i guess so), but back then they haven't been outstanding friendly .
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:38:13
they to know the stuff in and out though (or did(
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:38:13
I am in there n4dir
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:38:23
No one talks, I am at #vbox
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:38:48
n4dir: error message changed apparently
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:38:58
https://forums.virtualbox.org/
peterS 2017-03-01 11:38:59
tdn: yeah, I'd say so
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:39:15
n4dir: know I am getting: "/home/a/Documents/Coding" is not a valid mounting place
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:39:27
Meaning by place point
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:39:29
alpharray: i doubt i will be able to help. And VirtuaBox is broken beyond all repair over here ...
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:40:07
Ok
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:40:22
n4dir: Thank you for your time either way
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:40:32
try a different mountpoint? /home/a/Documents ? or even /home/a
n4dir 2017-03-01 11:40:32
good luck (try the forum, ignore them being tough guys)
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:41:55
n4dir: tried a different mountpoint and I failed
alpharray 2017-03-01 11:41:57
Thanks once again
tdn 2017-03-01 11:43:29
peterS, ok so who should i contact in order to raise awareness of this problem and have its inclusion in stable benreconsidered?
