hello, i have dell studio 1555. When I close laptop lid system works but screen doesn't turn off. How to do that the screen turn off when I close laptop lid(system must work)? It will save more power.
petn-randall 2017-03-02 03:51:42
riccoo: If you're running a desktop, you usually can change the settings in power management to turn off the screen on lid close.
riccoo 2017-03-02 03:54:51
petn-randall no, i'm not using a desktop. Only command line
riccoo 2017-03-02 04:02:48
anyone can help me?
riccoo 2017-03-02 04:04:39
petn-randall ?
petn-randall 2017-03-02 04:04:52
riccoo: If I knew, I'd respond.
petn-randall 2017-03-02 04:05:11
riccoo: Have a little patience, it's only been 15 minutes since you asked.
riccoo 2017-03-02 04:06:21
i'm sorry :)
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 04:16:24
riccoo: you can pre-shut it off.... xbacklight -set 0% && xset dmps force off
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 04:17:06
although it might be hard to restore if you don't have a hotkey setup to open a terminal
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 04:18:10
but switching to a console and back normally undo's the state. Cntrl+Alt+F# + Alt+F#

Can a disk be removed from an LVM group without loosing data?
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 04:30:13
idk, you can shrink them iirc
jhutchins_wk 2017-03-02 04:34:46
Ok, pvmove then vgreduce.
jelly 2017-03-02 04:34:51
jhutchins_wk: yes, provided there's enough space to move data off the PV(s) on that disk
jhutchins_wk 2017-03-02 04:35:04
Right, I'll add the new volume first.
jhutchins_wk 2017-03-02 04:35:26
...although I think there's space, it's a strange layout: 3G, 2G, 80G.
jhutchins_wk 2017-03-02 04:35:42
Pretty sure there's 5G free on the 80.
jelly 2017-03-02 04:36:08
pastebin the outputs of "pvs" and "vgs" maybe for a free estimate!
jhutchins_wk 2017-03-02 04:36:48
Thanks, we'll work it out.
jhutchins_wk 2017-03-02 04:40:29
I must've misread something, now it's not looking like that.

i need help with something
spooky 2017-03-02 04:44:14
can someone tell me what's happening to my xchat and hexchat? i'm using debian gnome and every 2 weeks or so, hexchat and xchat will just close down. no reason at all. even when i'm not using it. is there something i can check to see why this is happening, is there a way to fix it?
asterismo 2017-03-02 04:44:39
i have a PC that i use as a server, and i have two networking cards, the onboard realtek 8111 gigabit ethernet and the wlan0 tp-link pcie card
petn-randall 2017-03-02 04:44:48
spooky: You could start it on the command line, and see if it segfaults.
