Hello guys, how can I make Debian tu mount automatically when a usb is plugged in?
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:02:00
n-iCe: install autofs stuffs? apt-get install autofs
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:02:54
or have entry(s) in /etc/fstab
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:02:58
Shadow_7: done
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:03:02
installed
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:03:17
plugged the usb back in, nothing appears
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:03:28
although /etc/fstab is more for auto at boot
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:03:33
dmesg detects it as [ 318.044541] sdc: sdc1
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:03:45
probably need to reboot
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:03:59
systemd + dbus need to get the claws in on the thing
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:04:01
tried this mount sdc1 /mnt/nice
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:04:10
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc1
missmbob 2017-03-02 14:04:21
you need to look at your de settings. in xfce it's menu->settings->removable drives and media->check mount on hotplug
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:04:55
what's that error
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:05:30
n-iCe: blkid ... and /dev/sdc1 ... and -t auto ... would help, plus root perms
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:06:05
manually without autofs anyway
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:06:50
hehe
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:07:25
/dev/sdc1: PARTUUID="c3072e18-01"
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:07:33
that's the blkid output
popsch 2017-03-02 14:10:17
configure fails on a package, because of this error: checking minix/config.h usability
popsch 2017-03-02 14:10:29
conftest.c:60:26: fatal error: minix/config.h: No such file or directory
popsch 2017-03-02 14:10:42
that is strange that configure would require that
popsch 2017-03-02 14:10:55
am I am missing a package so I can compile code?
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:12:24
n-iCe: then it's unformatted. Should have UUID or fs type if it had data
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:13:04
n-iCe: baring something exotic anyway. encrypted or otherwise
Guest19747 2017-03-02 14:14:40
Hi, most software nowadays comes in ubuntu .debs, and AFAIK they're not binary compatible with vanilla debian. Is there some sort of shim, like a WINE for ubuntu, to get those .debs to work in debian?
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:15:39
Guest19747: as long as the deps are met they might work. Although probably only on sid plus a bit of roulette.

missmbob 2017-03-02 14:16:04
!tell Guest19747 about frankendebian
Guest19747 2017-03-02 14:18:52
OK, so for using debian on the desktop, and receiving reasonable support, what is my best bet? Should I use a derivative?
missmbob 2017-03-02 14:19:07
Guest19747: if you want to be using ubuntu debs use ubuntu
Guest19747 2017-03-02 14:21:31
missmbob, it's not that I have a burning desire to use ubuntu debs, or ubuntu itself, it's just that if a 3rd party software has a linux version at all, 90% of the time it's an ubuntu deb
missmbob 2017-03-02 14:22:17
Guest19747: that's mostly true
Guest19747 2017-03-02 14:22:34
Guess it'll be less work to use vmware all told
trumpy_ 2017-03-02 14:22:50
why ubuntu deb? thought it was just a deb
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:22:59
or chroot
missmbob 2017-03-02 14:23:02
no. it comes with built in deps
popsch 2017-03-02 14:24:14
any idea why my cpp fails the conformance test? https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/M8K8Bav-BduHUvpFEmU63l5M1UNdIGYhyRLivL9gydE=
tw 2017-03-02 14:24:58
popsch: maybe install build-essential?
dTal 2017-03-02 14:25:15
Guest19747: +1 to chroot
popsch 2017-03-02 14:25:39
tw, thanks a lot!
Guest19747 2017-03-02 14:26:02
OK, I'll check out chroot, ty guys
popsch 2017-03-02 14:29:38
what's the difference between libpng12 and libpng3 ?
popsch 2017-03-02 14:29:49
which one should I use when I compile a program?
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:29:52
Shadow_7: I solved it
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:29:56
was encrypted by bitlocker
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:30:10
a software called dislocker solved it
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:31:08
and contained only one file? named ...important.txt... with contents ...Hi Mom!...
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:32:17
Shadow_7: no, my work files, encrypted automatically by stupid windows by bitlocker
n-iCe 2017-03-02 14:32:20
somehow
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:32:41
because SSDs are insecure by design
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:33:54
I should probably learn encryption someday. But in these parts no one has ever heard of computers.
userro 2017-03-02 14:34:47
what parts?
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:35:22
the sticks between austin and waco
somiaj 2017-03-02 14:35:28
Do you care if someone steals/gets a hold of your machine if they can read your data? Encyrption is a layer to try to prevent this.
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:35:36
but not close enough to either to make driving 100 miles a day worth it
userro 2017-03-02 14:36:38
k
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:36:45
if someone steals / gets a hold of means that I have larger problems than my data
userro 2017-03-02 14:37:36
I care more about my data than the device itself though. :D
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:38:12
most of the data that I care about sits on disconnected drives
somiaj 2017-03-02 14:38:13
I probably would be very annoyed if I lost my data, only slightly annoyed if someone looked through it.
somiaj 2017-03-02 14:38:20
but I have backups for the first.
OnkelTem 2017-03-02 14:38:58
Hi all
OnkelTem 2017-03-02 14:39:06
Where is syslog on Debian jessy?
userro 2017-03-02 14:39:13
I keep backups as well
OnkelTem 2017-03-02 14:39:15
I don't see /var/log/messages
Shadow_7 2017-03-02 14:39:32
OnkelTem: /var/log/syslog ... or viewable with journalctl -a
OnkelTem 2017-03-02 14:39:54
Shadow_7: not such a file... Using this docker image: https://github.com/docker-library/php/blob/e573f8f7fda5d7378bae9c6a936a298b850c4076/5.6/apache/Dockerfile
somiaj 2017-03-02 14:40:17
OnkelTem: that is strange, I see /var/log/messages
somiaj 2017-03-02 14:40:18
oh docker doens't have a kernel directly, the logs will be on the host
OnkelTem 2017-03-02 14:40:32
Ah.... lol
OnkelTem 2017-03-02 14:40:37
somiaj: forgot about that
OnkelTem 2017-03-02 14:41:36
too late. Need to get some [s]rest[/s] series
