ausinch 2017-03-01 02:45:35
Shadow_7: i think you are on the right track. i see boot is now /dev/sda1. BUT I think yesterday it may have been /dev/sdc1
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 02:45:44
ausinch: otherwise my last guess is that /boot/vmlinuz and the /boot/initrd are mismatched. check timestamps on those.
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 02:46:28
ausinch: they swap around, and why you use UUID in /etc/fstab... blkid helps to fill in those details
p3rs3us 2017-03-01 02:48:52
hey guys, I have this software (known as smartgit) asking me for Java 1.8. For those on debian stable what does it mean?
ausinch 2017-03-01 02:48:59
Shadow_7: sorry, are you saying I should not use UUID - i thought there is no chance of moving using this method
missmbob 2017-03-01 02:49:48
p3rs3us: install openjdk-8-jre from jessie-backports
ausinch 2017-03-01 02:50:03
Shadow_7: i checked the UUID of /boot a year ago and it was the same
p3rs3us 2017-03-01 02:50:03
missmbob, hmmm
Hanonim 2017-03-01 02:50:26
it looks like vim doesn't read /etc/vim/vimrc when it starts, is that normal ?
missmbob 2017-03-01 02:51:01
p3rs3us: https://backports.debian.org/Instructions/
petn-randall 2017-03-01 02:51:06
Hanonim: What does the man page say?
stoned 2017-03-01 02:51:15
/usr/share/vim/vimrc
stoned 2017-03-01 02:51:18
It's here, I think
stoned 2017-03-01 02:51:26
I looked at man vim, and botom of page lists all the files.
p3rs3us 2017-03-01 02:51:50
missmbob, thank i will try to get it
stoned 2017-03-01 02:52:05
petn-randall: when in doubt, consult the "Man".
stoned 2017-03-01 02:52:15
I mean Hanonim
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 02:52:18
ausinch: otherwise building your own custom kernel might be a viable solution.
Hanonim 2017-03-01 02:53:04
right, i was mislead because /etc/vim/vimrc actually exists on my system
ausinch 2017-03-01 02:53:34
Shadow_7: or distro upgrade ? . . . .
Hanonim 2017-03-01 02:53:35
thanks !
stoned 2017-03-01 02:53:44
Hanonim: really?
stoned 2017-03-01 02:53:55
Hanonim: is this a debian or debian derivative?
Hanonim 2017-03-01 02:54:04
stoned: raspbian, to be honest
p3rs3us 2017-03-01 02:54:11
missmbob, thanks again. It worked.
missmbob 2017-03-01 02:54:18
p3rs3us: np
stoned 2017-03-01 02:54:21
Hanonim: it's not supported here. We only support debian.
stoned 2017-03-01 02:54:31
I knew it wasn't a Debian!
stoned 2017-03-01 02:54:33
:)
Hanonim 2017-03-01 02:54:53
stoned: my bad ! since they are pretty similar... thanks anyway
stoned 2017-03-01 02:54:58
np
stoned 2017-03-01 02:55:01
I think they have a channel
stoned 2017-03-01 02:55:05
!raspbian
dpkg 2017-03-01 02:55:06
Raspbian is a distribution made specifically for the . Raspbian is not Debian and it is not supported in #debian. Please use #raspbian on irc.freenode.net for support. http://www.raspbian.org/
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 03:01:59
ausinch: a distro upgrade would have a new and potentially not broken cifs module
BluesKaj 2017-03-01 03:03:28
raspbian is a nice OS, works well on the rpi3, especially if you have / on a USB and use the sdcard strictly for booting
petn-randall 2017-03-01 03:08:59
BluesKaj: The SD card reader is quite slow, but then again you usually don't boot those things too often.
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 03:09:35
or load things of enough size to be adversely affected by the card reader
BluesKaj 2017-03-01 03:12:16
petn-randall, I decided to move the / to a usb after my first sdcard died from too many formats after trying different OSs and desktops
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:19:18
I try to change the $JAVA_HOME to /opt/jdk/jdk1.8.0_121/ but echo $JAVA_HOME don show me nothing
petn-randall 2017-03-01 03:20:58
dannyLopez: How are you trying to change it?
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:22:40
petn-randall: editing /etc/profile and add 3 lines
petn-randall 2017-03-01 03:24:47
dannyLopez: Which 3 lines? Details matter!
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:25:00
JAVA_HOME=/opt/jdk/jdk1.8.0_121/ PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:$JAVA_HOME/bin export JAVA_HOME export JRE_HOME and
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:25:22
JAVA_HOME=/opt/jdk/jdk1.8.0_121/ > PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:$JAVA_HOME/bin > export JAVA_HOME > export JRE_HOME and export PATH
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:25:41
Add this 4 lines, jajaja, sorry
bezaban 2017-03-01 03:26:54
did you invoke a new login shell after that? bash -l ?
bezaban 2017-03-01 03:27:02
or logout/login
bezaban 2017-03-01 03:27:27
or source .profile I guess
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:27:39
login shell, yes, logot/in no
bezaban 2017-03-01 03:27:48
so you did a bash -l?
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:27:55
source .profile, no have idea
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:29:22
Why only works in bash -l? http://pastebin.com/i30jRBCi
bezaban 2017-03-01 03:29:39
dannyLopez: the difference is between a login shell and a non-login shell. Non-login shells only apply .bashrc
bezaban 2017-03-01 03:30:12
also what is the difference between 'su -' and 'su'
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:31:48
To apply this change to all system, need logout/in in the OS?
bezaban 2017-03-01 03:32:22
to the user you edited, yeah
bezaban 2017-03-01 03:32:26
for.
bezaban 2017-03-01 03:32:35
not good with words, multitasking :)
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:33:13
:)
zykotick9 2017-03-01 03:35:30
bezaban: regarding "su -" that fakes a login, thus paths get updated (so for instance, bash's autocomplete shows root's completion abilities, where su does not)
bezaban 2017-03-01 03:36:11
zykotick9: my point exactly :)
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:36:13
The thing is, I tried to follow a tutorial of DHIS2 in Ubuntu, but I use Debian, and a instruction say "Next edit the file tomcat-dhis/bin/setenv.sh and add the lines below. The first line will set the location of your Java Runtime Environment"
john_rambo 2017-03-01 03:36:47
I am trying to convert a video.... I am using Avidemux.....FOr Video I am using "Copy" and for Audio I have selected MP3.....The encoding process completes without any error but WHen I play the output file there is no audio file
petn-randall 2017-03-01 03:37:29
not only is there a difference between login/non-login shell, there's also interactive vs non-interactive, so you end up having four different combinations sourcing different files.
dannyLopez 2017-03-01 03:37:50
Obviously I have install Oracle Java, because OpenJDK dont work.
jhutchins_wk 2017-03-01 03:38:29
bezaban: the dash causes the target user's (root's) environment to be loaded just like a login. Without - it only changes the UID. So many new users had problems with this that they hacked su so that for root it always applies the environment. su - is a better habit for cross-platform compatibility.
BluesKaj-pi 2017-03-01 03:38:33
john_rambo, think you nneed to choose the format the audio is in atm, if you didn't record it in mp3 then it has to be converted to mp3
jhutchins_wk 2017-03-01 03:38:51
Ah lag.
paw 2017-03-01 03:40:19
Hi, question. I need a kernel module built in my current running default Debian kernel (not enabled by default), how can I do this?
john_rambo 2017-03-01 03:40:43
BluesKaj-pi, I source file's audio is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opus_%28audio_format%29
petn-randall 2017-03-01 03:40:59
paw: You usually just install the corresponding kernel-headers and starting compiling. What module do you need?
BluesKaj-pi 2017-03-01 03:44:05
john_rambo, does Avidemux have opus audio format as an option?
john_rambo 2017-03-01 03:44:14
BluesKaj-pi,No
john_rambo 2017-03-01 03:44:59
I want to keep the video (h.264) and convert the audio to mp3
john_rambo 2017-03-01 03:45:03
BluesKaj-pi,
