Is it possible to switch from a live running linux operating system to debian OS? If so, then how?
semitones 2017-03-01 13:03:29
Hi all! I'm installind debian for the first time in a long time
semitones 2017-03-01 13:04:09
I'm at the root password part, and my instinct is to leave it blank, so that sudo must be used. Is that a common thing to do?
AAS13 2017-03-01 13:04:12
Oiaohm: the 'freshest' main- 8.7.1, I added the repo..
missmbob 2017-03-01 13:04:38
semitones: for private machines it's commonish
semitones 2017-03-01 13:05:37
missmbob: thanks! I went ahead and did it. I'm installing open media vault on jessie :)
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 13:09:59
semitones: that's kind of ubuntu's approach
Shadow_7 2017-03-01 13:10:26
semitones: but if you hose it up, you're SOL without chroot abilities.
semitones 2017-03-01 13:11:30
Shadow_7: it's possible to chroot on ubuntu with default setup -- I've done that a few times to repair grub. Are you sure it's impossible on debian in this setup?
missmbob 2017-03-01 13:11:30
!tell AAS13 about dont break debian
semitones 2017-03-01 13:13:35
and if I understand correctly, if I want to setup my partitions beforehand, I have to leave the partition for debian as "free space" rather than format it ext4?

To install PHP on Apache, install libapache2-mod-php5, then restart your browser and try to access a php page. If this doesn't work, ask me about . There are also CGI and CLI versions of PHP available in the php5-cgi and php5-cli packages. See also .

hey I know this is for debian stable only but I'm running out of options I'm using sparky linux which is based on debian testing. I'm just in need of help getting my internet working. I can't go wired so that's out of the question. Recently I updated my system and lost internet connectivity. Every time I try to open a browser it says the DNS couldn't be reached. I tried an IP address and the site couldn't be reached same

error message. It says I'm connected via wifi but there's 0 internet. It's on a different system than the one I'm using right now. I'd appreciate it if someone could help.
